Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

Guest review by Nora S.
A secret love, a stormy beach, undercover passion and tender moments-- 'Daring Summer' by Elyse Douglas has all of these things in abundance.
From the very beginning of the novel, I was instantly transported into another world. This is the world of Kim, a 29 year-old former (sometimes current) dancer who married a rich older man for love. Unfortunately the rich older man, Ben assumes that she is cheating on him after she has dinner with a friend in Manhattan. Ben's reaction is incendiary. It is this that is the cause of his major car accident which leaves him crippled from the waist down. Kim must now take on the role of an at-home nurse and housekeeper-- a role made even more difficult by the attitude of her vicious husband.
It is while Kim is lamenting her fate and wandering the beach at night that she meets a young, handsome stranger and the two are instantly attracted to one another.
Derek is everything that Ben is not. He's young, he's kind and he seems to appreciate Kim in ways her husband never did and certainly does not now.
The passion and heat between Derek and Kim is scorching in this book. There were a few times I almost felt like I needed to put it down and go take a cold shower!

The juxtaposition of the summer heat with the heat of Derek and Kim's new love are so well done and gratifying to read. The writing has a lot more weight to it than your average romance and it left me feeling that the characters were more real and alive.
Without spoiling anything, I can tell you that this suspenseful romance is well worth the read and will leave you breathless and wishing that you had a beach house of your own!  A great read for anytime of the year but an excellent beach read! I give it 5 stars!
Praise Other Side of Summer
“5 stars, another great, emotional read from this author!! I was hooked the minute I started reading it. Be warned you will need a box of tissues to read. I really love this author!”- Melissa Mendoza, Anne & Melissa’s Book Love

“I found this to be a satisfying, well developed warm and enriching read. It gave me a lot to think about. I will recommend it to readers of both genders, age high school and up, who like substance in their novels.”-Laura Reading, Laura’s Interests

“The book is more than just a contemporary romance – it’s a family saga, a book about the bonds of family, about love (not just between partners but between parents and children), about life and the choices we make. It’s heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. The writing is hauntingly beautiful, and the author has a talent for crafting believable characters. An excellent book, and I look forward to reading more by this author.”- Majanka, I Heart Reading

“Great story, I give it five stars. I thought the book was wonderful and emotional, and I loved the writing style and how the words flowed. I was happy to fantasize about being there to watch the story unfold. I loved this story; took me back to my young beach days.”-Diana's Book Reviews

Daring Summer
Kim was jerked from her memories by the sound of thunder, or what she thought was thunder.  But she quickly realized it wasn’t thunder. The thunder and lightning had stopped minutes ago, as the violent part of the storm went roaring off to the east.
She stopped, pivoted and peered down the highway that disappeared into woolly fog.  She froze, every sense awake, feeling the cold beating rain on her head and face. She brushed the hair from her eyes, caught in a sudden nightmare.  A swift ringing alarm went off in her head.
She shouted out.  “Ben! Ben!” and she kicked off her heels and broke into a sprint.  As she tore off down the road, the wind threw gushes of rain into her face.  She ran frantically, calling Ben’s name, tears forming.
Minutes later, breaking through stringy fog, she saw it.  Something ahead—something that shouldn’t be there. A car off the road, down in a ravine.  It was pitched forward, looming out of the gray curtain of rain, wedged into a row of trees, appearing and disappearing in a filmy haze.  The taillights were blinking, as if shouting out disaster.
Kim hurled herself down the slope, across low shrubs and rocks, slipping on wet stones, falling branches slashing her face and feet.  She got up, stumbled, reaching for him, fell and reached for him again, pushed to her feet, reaching for him, calling to him.
In the relentless downpour, she finally tumbled against the car, chest heaving, head throbbing.  She didn’t notice the broken, scattered glass—didn’t notice or feel shards piercing her bleeding feet.  Peering in from the passenger window, she saw Ben slumped over the wheel, the airbag only partially deployed.  Blood splattered his white shirt—his faced was turned away from her.
Terror swelled her chest.  “Oh God. Ben!”
She frantically pulled and yanked on the door handle, but it didn’t budge.  The car had slammed into an embankment of rock and mud, so it was impossible for her to approach from the driver’s side.
She glanced about, her eyes wild, as sliding curtains of rain drenched her.
Nearly exhausted, she fumbled into her purse for her cell phone.  Wiping her eyes, she dialed 911. She was cold and shivering, her hands shaking.  Into the phone, she shouted out the location. She shouted for help. She shouted for an ambulance.  She hung up, leaned into the jagged open window and called to Ben. He didn’t stir. She wept, as the hard rain slanted into her, as the wind circled her.
It was only when she heard the loud, wobbling siren that a strange calm came over her.  Her head cleared, and, despite the uncontrollable shivering and her chattering teeth, she didn’t faint.  She didn’t waiver. She looked at Ben as they lowered the stretcher into the ambulance, and she told him that everything was going to be okay.

“Do you hear me, Ben?  I’m calling for you. I’m here with you.  I’m calling to you, Ben, just like I did when I was lost on the path.  Remember? Do you hear me, Ben? You came to me, Ben. You came for me and you found me.  Find me again, Ben. Ben, wake up. Wake up!”
