I didn’t have time to be angry. The edge of the road grabbed my tires, and I slipped off the pavement, losing control of my steering. In an instant, it felt as if my trusted vehicle had grown a mind of its own, thrashing around like a bull just released from its pen. My heart was in a race with my mind, trying to problem solve. Everything happened so fast. Yet, each second passed in slow motion. All I could do was close my eyes and prepare myself for impact.
Daniel.
Suddenly, our fight felt small and insignificant. All the ranting I had done was for no other reason than to release pent-up anger. Yes, I wanted a family with him. It was important to me too. Admittedly, I’d even imagined what our children would look like. Our son with Daniel’s captivating eyes, our daughter with my auburn hair and logical mind. I’d envisioned it all. And as my world folded into chaos, branches slapping my car, everything whizzing by, that was all that I could think about in that very long moment.
I promised myself I would never leave Daniel angry again. How selfish I’d been. He was way too important in my life. And I’d taken him for granted. I’d taken us for granted.
Please, God, grant me the opportunity to fix this.
