Book Description:

Crop circles magically appear in Farmer Johnson’s field. A mysterious light sweeps over the night sky and awakens Farmer Johnson and Gilbert, the boy next door.

Curious, Gilbert ventures out to discover the source of the light and stumbles into a beautiful Martian girl sitting in a crop circle. Farmer Johnson also investigates the strange light, and thinking that Gilbert and Aoléon are vandals, he chases them. But they sprint to Aoléon’s saucer and escape only to be pursued by the U.S. Air Force.

Gilbert has never been attacked by swarms of giant killer robots. Never met strange aliens from other worlds. Never skyboarded across a megalopolis hidden deep inside an extinct volcano. Never trekked across a vast Martian desert. And never been eaten alive by a gigantic slor (well, almost never, unless you count Billy the fat bully at school).

And luckily, he has never ever confronted an evil ruler of Mars bent on conquering the Earth to steal its cows.

Never...until now!

This may be the adventure Gilbert always wished for.

If only he can survive.

My Review

Aoleon The Martian Girl is a middle grade sci fi story. This review is for part one of the book. I don't usually review this genre but thought I would give it a try. I really liked it and think that most children, boys or girls would enjoy the book. The main character is a Gilbert, young farm boy from Nebraska and a young Martian girl.

There are crop circles appearing in Mr.Johnson's fields and he thinks that Gilbert is the culprit, but that is not the case but Gilbert goes to investigate and finds Aoleon, a Martian girl just sitting within the crop circle. Now this is most peculiar as Gilbert has never seen such a thing as crop circles let alone a Martian girl. His curiosity is piqued though so he goes along with her on her saucer. Of course any young child enjoys a good adventure and so does Gilbert. I think it will be fun to see what adventures await him with Aoleon in the next chapters.

The book is illustrated, by the author, and the pictures are very vivid and imaginative that will be sure to delight the reader. I think at this age pictures that go along with the story are a great thing. It gives the childs imagination something to give them an insight into the story.

I received a copy for review and was not monetarily compensated for my review.

Synopsis

One little lie, one huge grudge, and one picture-perfect plan for revenge… Best Revenge, Book 2

Blackmailed into a prom date by the cute but geeky Dexter Black twelve years ago, Maya Werner shocked herself by having a good time. For a strong-willed, hot-tempered artist who’s used to having the upper hand, that’s never sat well with her.

At weekly wine night with her friends, Maya finds herself pledging to get revenge on the men who’ve done her wrong—starting with Dex. Except the Marine Corps transformed the nerd into a hot, sexy guy with the audacity to blackmail her again. This time into a few dates.

Dex is back in town with one goal in mind: to win the girl of his dreams. But he knows how she operates. His strategy? Keep her off balance by running hot and cold until she melts into the passion between them.

When a misunderstanding stokes old hurts, Maya backs away when she should stand her ground. But Dex has a contingency plan: pour on the charm with both barrels, until he has his own form of revenge—loving Maya, forever.

Warning: Blackmailing a stubborn, hot-tempered artist into bed, and an ex-Marine who has a penchant for taking pictures. Yeah, those kinds of pictures.

From the author of the international bestseller The Sweetness of Forgetting, named one of the Best Books of Summer 2012 by Marie Clairemagazine, comes a captivating novel about the struggle to overcome the past when our memories refuse to be forgotten.

In this richly told story where Sliding Doors meets P.S. I Love You, Kristin Harmel weaves a heart-wrenching tale that asks: what does it take to move forward in life without forgetting the past?

After her husband's sudden death over ten years ago, Kate Waithman never expected to be lucky enough to find another love of her life. But now she's planning her second walk down the aisle to a perfectly nice man. So why isn't she more excited?

At first, Kate blames her lack of sleep on stress. But when she starts seeing Patrick, her late husband, in her dreams, she begins to wonder if she's really ready to move on. Is Patrick trying to tell her something? Attempting to navigate between dreams and reality, Kate must uncover her husband's hidden message. Her quest leads her to a sign language class and into the New York City foster system, where she finds rewards greater than she could have imagined.

Excerpt:

“Enough of me,” he said coyly. He reached out to grab a stray lock of my strawberry blonde hair. I swatted his hand away.

“Do not touch me,” I hissed.

He rolled his eyes and turned his baseball cap backwards on his head. “Oh, come on. I’m a guy and you’re a girl and—”

“This isn’t going to turn into some tutor/student sex fantasy,” I shot back angrily.

“Admit it. You think I’m hot.”

If I were being frank, I would admit that the fourteen-year-old freshman was good looking in a young Brad Pitt sort of way. Regardless, he was a freshman. There was no way I was even entertaining that idea.

I shook my head. “Nope. Can’t say that I do.”

“Oh, come on, Riley. Stop denying what is fated. We are going to fall in love, get married, and have beautiful children.”

“Do you want me to tell your mother that you’re sexually harassing your eighteen year old senior tutor? Why don’t you take all that energy you’re putting into being a perverted freak and focus on your studies?”

Instead of being angry, Blake’s eyes widened and he burst into a loud laugh. “You are seriously something, Riley Dillon. Seriously something.”

“Just pay attention to the lesson,” I snapped.

“Age ain’t nothing but a number, Sweetheart. One day you’ll find that out.” He grinned his cocky smile and I couldn’t help but wonder if this tutoring gig was even worth it. As his laugh echoed in the empty classroom, all I could do was shut my tired eyes and shake my head in exasperation.

When Gavin of Ashgrove and his closest friend are captured in a fierce battle during the Hundred Years’ War, their captors demand a hefty ransom from their fathers for their return. Robert is quickly set free, but Gavin’s father refuses to pay for his son’s release, leaving him to rot in a squalid French prison. Aided by a sympathetic priest, he escapes and returns home to England, only to find he has been proclaimed a bastard and disinherited.

With nowhere to turn Gavin journeys to Kentwood, where he fostered as a boy, hoping Lord Aldred will take him on as a knight in his guard. The old warrior is close to death, but he soon realizes Gavin is his son. Aldred plots to have Gavin inherit Kentwood and marry his much younger wife, Elizabeth, a famed and opinionated beauty who remains a virgin after a decade of marriage.

Will the king recognize Lord Aldred’s first request of a marriage between Elizabeth and Robert, uniting Robert’s estate with Kentwood—or will the temperamental Edward reward Aldred’s years of service and honor a dying man’s final request?

As a child, Lauren Linwood gathered her neighborhood friends together and made up stories for them to act out, her first venture into creating memorable characters. Following her passion for history and love of learning, she became a teacher who began writing on the side to maintain her sanity in a sea of teenage hormones.

Lauren’s novels focus on two of her favorite eras, medieval times and the American Old West. History is the backdrop that places her characters in extraordinary circumstances, where their intense desire and yearning for one another grows into the deep, tender, treasured gift of love.

Lauren, a native Texan, lives in a Dallas suburb with her family. An avid reader, moviegoer, and sports fan, she manages stress by alternating yoga with five mile walks. She is thinking about starting a support group for Pinterest and House Hunters addicts.
