The Acheron Deception by Patrick F.Rooney Review!
About the Book
A CIA agent recruits a Wall Street securities trader to help her track down a surreptitious nest of terrorists manipulating the stock market in this decade-spanning espionage thriller.
It begins in 1987, when the prevailing winds of Glasnost have caught the Russian leadership by surprise... catapulting the confusion caused by the impending breakup of the Soviet Union to new levels. For KGB agent Mikhail Volkov, the chaos provides something else altogether-An opportunity to steal four nuclear weapons from a Russian test facility.
Sean McGowan, a software engineer in the securities industry, has come a long way from the trailer park where he grew up in New Mexico. He leads an exciting life now, with wealth, influence, and the company of beautiful women, until Volkov comes after him to expropriate his ultra-fast derivatives trading program.
CIA Agent Beate Nicholson recruits Sean to help her track down financiers manipulating the stock markets. But first they must use their computer skills to thwart a massive cyber-attack against the world's banking system perpetrated using a multi-player gaming platform.
Sean and Beate's collaboration leads them to the doorstep of a rogue's gallery of sinister figures, including white-collar jihadist Rahim Delacroix—who wreaks revenge against the infidels that killed his family; and the mysterious John Napoleon, leader of the Protectorate—an environmental syndicate committed to saving the planet by seizing control of the world's resources.
Sean and Beate watch in helpless disbelief as terrorists strike Europe. Can they connect all the dots in time to collar the villains before they inflict even more destruction?

My Thoughts
Every so often I love to read a good spy kind of novel. A good novel has to have characters that you can relate to, a story that is believable and the writing shows that research was extensively done. I found all of that and more in The Acheron Deception. Someone is manipulatting the stock markets and due to circumstances beyond control, Sean McGowan, a software engineer who works at a securities company is recruited by the CIA to aid in the investigation to find the terrorists who are planning on a cyber attack on the stock market.
There are a lot of characters in this story, but it is easy enough to follow along as to who is who and who is doing what to whom. A fast paced, page turning juicy novel that will thrill fans of Robert Ludlum or Tom Clancy. Very enjoyable! I loved it for the fast paced suspense that just kept on going until the end. I see a sequel in the making! I highly recommend this book.

Book Title: Visiting the Sins by Melanie Denman
Category: Adult Fiction, 244 pages
Genre: Women's fiction, Southern fiction
Publisher: Word Association Publishers
Release date: January 2015 (Second Edition)
Content Rating: PG-13 + Mature (The majority of the content is humorous and suitable for all adult audiences, but it does contain dark themes of suicide, adultery, addiction, an out-of-wedlock birth, and an explicit (but funny) discussion of male genitalia. There is occasional bad language. There are evolving attitudes about race, including use of the "n-word".)
Book Description:
Set in the Bible Belt of Deep East Texas, Visiting the Sins is a darkly funny story about mothers and daughters, naked ambition, elusive redemption, and all the torment it's possible to inflict in the name of family.
Down through the decades, the lofty social aspirations of the feisty but perennially dissatisfied Wheeler women -- Pokey, the love-starved, pistol-packing matriarch; Rebanelle, the frosty former beauty queen turned church organist; and Curtis Jean, the backsliding gospel singer -- are exceeded only by their unfortunate taste in men and a seemingly boundless capacity for holding grudges. A legacy of feuding and scandal lurches from one generation to the next with tragic consequences that threaten to destroy everything the Wheeler women have sacrificed their souls to build.

GOOD
ADVICE
When the first call came in that
evening, Julia was more than ready. Strategically placed in front of her, her
fresh pile of blank intake questionnaires served as the cornerstone to an array
of pens, pencils, and resource books. Tools of the trade she called them; open
windows to the souls of women crying out for help.
“East Central Women’s Shelter.
May I help you?” she asked, glancing at the ‘panic’ button next to her desk. So
far, no one had ever had to use it, but being thorough, she had it checked out
with the local police once a year anyway, to make sure it still worked.
The voice on the other end had a
familiar desperation. “I can’t take it any more! He’s going to kill me!”
Julia assumed her ‘calm’ voice. “First
of all, can you tell me your name, address, and phone number?” Taking the
correct information was the key. Never rattle the women callers and let them
know you’re there for them. Above all, make it clear the shelter is a safe,
soothing place. Continuing, she gently
probed and coaxed until she had made complete arrangements for the woman to
enter the shelter with her children by midnight.
“God, Julia, you’re amazing!” As
always, her intern Barbara was visibly impressed. No one could do an intake
like her supervisor. No one.
Julia offered a tight, modest
smile and got up to retrieve some coffee from the kitchenette, moving slowly,
deliberately, like she had all the time in the world.
“How do you stay so peaceful? I’m
so wired when I leave this place,” Barbara admitted.
She enjoyed confessing to Julia;
it was a chance to get good advice. But
tonight, Julia obviously wasn’t in the mood.
“Barbara, life’s not perfect,”
the therapist muttered as she turned back to her work.
The persistent phone calls
swelled into a tsunami of women pleading for their lives. For most people, it
could become oppressive, but Julia took everything in her stride. Sympathetic,
yet suggestive, she never faltered.
By 12:45 a.m., the needy calls
had definitely slowed down. Barbara yawned, and watching her mentor tidy up,
said, “Time to go home soon, no?” She had had enough.
“You go on without me. I’ve got a
couple of things to do yet,” Julia replied, reshuffling papers on her
ultra-organized desk.
In the pitch-black parking lot,
Barbara darted to her car. She would have much preferred having Julia walk with
her, but her supervisor never went home on time, and tonight was no exception.
Sliding into the front seat, her peripheral vision caught something, but when
she swiveled left, there was only darkness. I
must be getting paranoid, she thought as she shook her head, locked her car
door, and flipped on the ignition. Suddenly, images of her comfy bed and a good
night’s sleep trumped everything.
Inside the shelter, the clock
read 1:12 a.m., and Julia knew it was finally time to go. But it wasn’t until
two seconds later when she stood up that she heard the hammer click on the gun.
Pivoting, she faced the man
straddling the doorjamb. “Look at me,” he said softly, coldly.
She tried to shift towards the
panic button, but her legs wouldn’t move.
“Look at me, Julia,” her husband
repeated. They were the last words she
heard.

Square Affair by Timmothy J.Holt Review!
About
the Book
Product Details
Paperback: 244 pages
Publisher: Christine F.\Anderson#Publishing & Media; First Edition edition (January 14, 2015)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0692350640

In
the small Midwestern town of Dewers, among the turmoil of the 1960s, the
conversations of five men leads to sexual exploration, which takes them and the
town on a journey through good and evil that will change the entire community
and confirm the town’s resolve to survive.
Arrested
on charges of public indecency for anonymous sex in the courthouse restroom, five
men reveal complex, unknown, and differing motivations for their actions. As
they face not only criminal prosecution, but also the tribunal of Dewers, two
questions are on their minds: Who am I, and is anyone out there like me?
Clara
May and Frieda, guardians of Dewers gossip, narrate Square Affair, where the
reader becomes a citizen of Dewers: walking the square, in a bar drinking,
trick-or-treating, in a store buying a hat, or in a car gossiping.
About
the Author
My
Thoughts
In the 1960's, being gay was just not talked about. It existed but not really recognized. Square Affair refers to five men who are arrested for having annoymous sex in the Courthouse bathrooms. They never thought they would be caught but they were and now have to face the consequences.
The story is narrated by Clara May and her friend Frieda, the town gossips. These ladies know everything that goes on in town. Clara May had her suspicions but kept it to herself. Clara May is an individual who is very progressive for her age and the era. Because of this a few of the men are very comfortable talking to her. I really liked her character.
The arrest of these five men and the consequences open up buried secrets that a few of them have harbored for a very long time. Are they all gay, have they grown accustomed to being gay and keep it secret, are they ready to "come out", choose to end their marriages, or do they keep their marriage together just because they feel it the right thing to do? These are questions that are eventually touched upon as the author tells the story. We come to know the wives of a few of the men, their feelings and emotions are put to the test as the trial of the men is ready to begin.
I found this story to be very well written and true to how it was back in the 60's. 50+ years later, being gay is finally being accepted by most people. Most states now allow gay marriage, actually my daughter married her significant other just last week in Florida. We have come a long way in those years and it is a big step that has been a long time coming. The author really delved into the emotions that all people in this small community have and how the arrest and subsequent trial has affected them.I really enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it.

A funeral, a ghost, a murder . . . it’s all in a day’s work for Emma Lee Raines . . .
Bopped on the head from a falling plastic Santa, local undertaker Emma Lee Raines is told she’s suffering from “funeral trauma.” It’s trauma all right, because the not so dearly departed keep talking to her. Take Ruthie Sue Payne—innkeeper, gossip queen, and arch-nemesis of Emma Lee’s granny—she’s adamant that she didn’t just fall down those stairs. She was pushed.
Ruthie has no idea who wanted her pushing up daisies. All she knows is that she can’t cross over until the matter is laid to eternal rest. In the land of the living, Emma Lee’s high-school crush, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross, isn’t ready to rule out foul play. Granny Raines, the widow of Ruthie’s ex-husband and co-owner of the Sleepy Hollow Inn, is the prime suspect. Now Emma Lee is stuck playing detective or risk being haunted forever.
About the Author
TONYA KAPPES has written more than fifteen novels and four novellas, all of which have graced numerous bestseller lists including USA Today. Best known for stories charged with emotion and humor and filled with flawed characters, her novels have garnered reader praise and glowing critical reviews. She lives with her husband, two very spoiled schnauzers, and one ex-stray cat in northern Kentucky. Now that her boys are teenagers, Tonya writes full-time but can be found at all of her guys’ high school games with a pencil and paper in hand.
My Thoughts
What a fun book this was! Emma Lee Raines can see dead people, but only people who have been murdered, like the town gossip Ruthie Sue Payne. Ruthie appears to Emma Lee after she gets hit in the head. She is fine, except that she keeps seeing Ruthie everywhere she goes and when Ruthie tries to convince her she was pushed down the stairs and did not fall, Emma Lee has a hard time believing this. After a lot of convincing, she finally agrees to see what she can find out. Her investigation points the blame on her own grandmother, which she is having a hard time believing. WIth the help of Sheriff Jack Henry Ross, she unveils what happened to Ruthie Sue.
I loved this heroine, fiesty and funny, I found her character to be very likable. I read the book in a short amount of time and had more than a few giggles as the story went on. Ruthie Sue is a hoot!! Will she be able to cross over to the other side? I am not going to tell you that! You will just have to read this book for your self. A perfect balance of mystery, suspense and humor that keeps the reader turning the pages.I look forward to reading the next in the series, A Ghostly Grave.

killed by some poison during sex games. Saito is not the first person to be killed in this
manner. The G-Team is called upon to help solve the murders. Special Agent Jerry
Cotton and Philippa Decker first suspect the Yakuza, or a similar organized crime gang,

New York. The victims: a middle-class family, a wedding party, a school group, and a
police station task force. The culprits: people with no previous criminal record. The GTeam
is on the case. Agent Cotton has been looking for a common thread and finds an
ambiguous lead: Just before every crime, the perpetrators activated the same app on their
smartphones. One evening, Cotton and Philippa Decker meet by chance in a restaurant.
Both have been stood up by their respective dates, and they decide to make the best of it
and have dinner together. Cotton shows his colleague an app that had just installed itself
on his smartphone. Decker tries out the app. And then she pulls out her weapon and aims
it at Cotton as if in a trance ...
EPISODE 9: DEADLY GAMES.
The star gamer from Korea, Park Dae-Young, arrived in New York to participate in an Esports
competition. The prize money is $600,000. A few hours after his arrival he is dead;
and this despite having had body guards present. Cotton and Decker from the G-Team
take over the case. There are certain indications that team members, who came with Park,
may be involved in his death. It is suspected that they did so out of jealousy, and that
Park's clan had participated in tourneys outside the regular "Counterstrike? gaming
schedule, in which huge sums of money were involved. It seems evident that not only
Park himself, but also the team members and the management too, had been involved in a
betting scam. Something like this goes well only so long as all the members cooperate.
EPISODE 10: PROJECT OMEGA.
Once a year, the president holds a banquet for members of the military, police forces, and
the Secret Service who have rendered outstanding service to the nation. This year,
Special Agents Jeremiah Cotton and Philippa Decker have been invited for the first time.
Cotton feels out of place at the party among all the "big shots.? But then a slightly older
but still quite attractive woman approaches him. Joan Fallon is being blackmailed by a
stranger. Not for money, but for the state secrets guarded by her husband - the White
House Chief of Staff. Joan has a dark past that not even her husband knows: In her youth,
she acted in adult films. And it seems that the videotapes weren't all destroyed. Cotton
discusses the problem with Mr. High, the head of the G-Team. A White House scandal
and national security are at stake. So Cotton and his attractive partner Philippa start an
undercover investigation into New York's porn scene ...
COLLECTION 4 (May 11)
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Cotton-FBI-Collection-No-Episodesebook/dp/B00RZSX3BS
EPISODE 11: DEATH ON ORDER.
When Peter Warren opened the door and saw a pizza delivery man standing on his porch,
he thought that it was a mix-up; he hadn't ordered a pizza that evening. Then, instead of a
pizza, the man pulled a taser out of the insulated transport box. The last thing Warren saw
were drill bits, needles, and surgical instruments ... Over the period of few months,
several people fell victim to a sadistic crime using this or similar methods. Oddly, they
weren't killed right away, but fell into comas due to brain injuries and then died later on.
The victims had nothing in common, except for one thing: They were all organ donors,
and the last two victims had rare genetic profiles. A false set of documents is prepared for
Cotton by the team's experts, making him look like the perfect organ donor. They insert it
into the national databank of the country's healthcare system. At the home address listed
in these documents, Cotton awaits the killer ...
EPISODE 12: SURVIVAL.
There's a new government training program intended to get FBI agents into top shape.
Equipped with nothing but their wits and an emergency backpack, the participants will be
dropped in the vast forests of the northeastern United States. There, they will have to
survive a week in the wilderness. Philippa Decker, Zeerookah, and Steve Dillagio are
selected as the first group from the New York division. The day before the program
begins, Dillagio suddenly calls in sick. Agent Cotton steps in at the last minute as his
replacement. What starts out as a relatively carefree expedition turns into a nightmare for
the three FBI agents. The first night, they're woken up by the sounds of gunfire. Then
they discover the bodies of another team of agents. By then, it's clear to Cotton and the
others that someone is using the survival program to carry out a treacherous plan. And
that they have been transformed from hunters into the hunted and must fight for their
survival.
EPISODE 13: WHISTLE BLOWER.
After a lengthy investigation, Sandy Overmeyer, a young journalist, manages to get an
interview with a powerful underworld boss, known and feared for his brutality. Roberto
Gonzalez, who calls himself Bobby Gold, shows her one of his hideouts, where drugs are
being packaged - by children. Upset, Sandy breaks one of the unwritten laws of
journalism: Never reveal a source. FBI agents storm Gold's hideout. The operation
doesn't go as planned, and Bobby Gold's innocent little brother Esteban gets shot. The
drug lord manages to evade arrest. Now Sandy is in grave danger. Cotton tries to get her
to safety, but he arrives too late. He realizes that he and his team have made a terrible
mistake. Together with his former colleague from the NYPD, Cotton goes undercover to
try to make amends, no matter who gets hurt along the way ..
.
EPISODE 14: CIVIL WAR.
A ruthless massacre. Thick clouds of gunsmoke stinging your eyes. Musket fire. In the
small town of Perryville, Kentucky, the Northern and Confederate armies have been pitted against each other. Smoke engulfs the hills. Wherever you look, there are fallen
men. But it's all just a game. A re-enactment for the anniversary of a Civil War battle.
The uniforms and even the weapons are authentic. Only the bullets are fake. Except for
one, which plows through the wooden side of the grandstand. Just missing the head of
Senator Kendall Whatley. Was it an accident? An attack? Maybe even an act of
terrorism? Special Agents Jeremiah Cotton and Philippa Decker are put on the case. They
soon find out that not all of the residents of Perryville take kindly to the senator. So they
decide to give the perpetrator an opportunity to strike again - the great ball at the end of
the anniversary festivities, where everyone will be dressed in historical garb ...
