Top 12 Places to Visit in Texas by #JodyRookstool Review

About the Book

As a lifelong Texan, Jody Rookstool is the perfect person to seek for information regarding a state so vast that it seems impossible that anyone could possess such an intimate knowledge of every place worth visiting. In this book, Rookstool provides readers with an in-depth look at some of the most interesting places to visit in Texas, including roadside attractions, art installations, historic locations and iconic pop-culture destinations. Covering the entire state from east to west and north to south, Rookstool’s book succeeds in bringing the vibrancy of Texas to life while informing the reader of every last detail regarding each individual destination.

In “Jody Rookstool's Top 12 Places to Visit in Texas,” readers will learn everything they need to know about some of the most fascinating locations in Texas, including Padre Island National Seashore, Cadillac Ranch, Washington on the Brazos, Moody Gardens, Space Center Houston and The Hill of James Magee, along with so many others ranking among the top 12 places to visit in Texas. With rare insight into each location’s history and a focus on establishing the unique characteristics of each destination, Rookstool makes it easy for readers to understand why each place is worthy of its place among the top destinations in the state. Readers will surely come away from reading this book with a clear desire to see all that Texas has to offer to both first-time visitors and longtime residents alike.

An ideal read for anyone planning a trip to, through or within Texas, this book does not do much to dispel the oft-repeated notion that “everything is bigger in Texas.” Rookstool mentions that the state has far more to offer than just the 12 destinations included in this book, noting that Texas is home to so much diversity and successfully attracts so many wonderful people from all over the world that there are new places worth checking out that seem to spring to life overnight. Rookstool focuses on offering a representative cross-section of Texas destinations, detailing a balanced mix of traditional locales, cultural attractions and natural settings reflecting every beautiful aspect of the massive Lone Star State.

   About the Author

Jody Rookstool is a native Texan whose passion for travel and DIY projects led to a career as a professional blogger. Though she started out with no intention other than to share her insight and experience with others, her talent for DIY and for arts and crafts became a frequent source of inspiration for those who read her blog. That talent, along with her ability to provide easily understood online instruction, served as the foundation for a new career path for Ms. Rookstool. She put more time into her blogging and quickly realized the potential for success offered by her burgeoning writing career.

After enjoying initial success with her DIY and craft blog, Ms. Rookstool began to tackle other subjects she felt equally passionate about. The most natural choice to add to her repertoire was on the subject of her home state, Texas. Her efforts in compiling the best of Texas led to an opportunity to publish a travel guide on the Lone Star State, which included a number of her preferred destinations that many travelers may have been previously unfamiliar with. While her book focused mostly on places to visit while in Texas, her blog focuses on anything and everything having to do with her home state.

As a DIYer, Ms. Rookstool is an innovator who has been able to simplify some of the most seemingly complex projects so that they are accessible to a broader audience. Ms. Rookstool has enjoyed exceptional success because of this specific skill, as her readers know each project they take on will be clearly explained and easily understood.

The Review
Top 12 Places to Visit in Texas by Jody Rookstool, is a very short but incisive read about places that are popular attractions to visit in the state of Texas.

The places listed in the book are:

Padre Island National Seashore

Moody Gardens in Galveston

Space Center Houston

The Lights of Marfa

Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose

The Hill of James Magee

Cadillac Ranch

Gorman Falls in Colorado Bend State Park

I have never been to Texas but if I were to go, these would certainly be some areas that I would love to visit. Of course there are a lot more places to visit, depending on what you are interested in, in Texas and this little book gives the reader an idea of what is available. I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed it. If you are looking for some ideas on what to see in Texas, if you are a visitor or resident, this book will give you an idea, great descriptions and links to visit.

I received a copy of this book for review and for my honest thoughts.

Excerpt

He walked into class and I turned my head away as soon as he looked at me. It was all rather dramatic, and I didn’t even mean it. It was a reflex. I was embarrassed. Snippets of the other night and my behavior kept popping in my head at the most inopportune times—I thought back to the way he looked when I showed up at his door. It was the same look he held now, walking into class. He took care of me, when I half expected him to shut the door in my face. He invited me in, he cleaned me up and put me to bed, and how did I repay him—by ignoring him. Real mature, Carrington.

I watched him from this angle. I imagined how messy his hair would look if he wore it longer. He carried the ‘rolled out of bed’ sexy look well. It might be why I kept having naughty dreams about him, none as real and explicit as the one I’d had when I woke up next to him. My face flushed as he turned to stare at me again. I looked away. I needed to suck it up and talk to him. I figured I had until the end of class to figure out something to say. I would start by apologizing for not returning his calls. Thank him for taking care of me the other night and try and persuade him to give me another chance. He would give me another chance because he liked me. He had asked me out in the first place, right?

My anxious heartbeat slowed to a relaxed rhythm, and I stopped sweating. I tried paying attention to the professor, but Calculus held no interest up against the saga I created in my own head. Lost in one of my fantasies, I caught Josh in the corner of my eye, gathering his stuff and walking out the door. Where is he going? I panicked. The entire class turned to watch Josh exit. I gathered my stuff and bolted down the steps. As I exited the room, the professor held his hands out and asked, "Anyone else need to leave?" I ran down the hall and out the door. I assumed he exited this way.

A desperate squeal escaped my lips, but it morphed into a squeal of excitement. I spotted him as he walked down the path to the student union. I took off running but began slowing down halfway. What am I going to say? I caught up and fell in step two feet behind him. I reached out and grabbed his shirtsleeve and the book in his arm fell with a thud. "What the fuck?" he said as he turned around. His expression softened, but then it got all hard and stern. His eyes darted around, and he cleared his throat. I fought the urge to bolt. "What?" he yelled. Students stopped and stared. He bent down to grab his book.

I needed to figure out something; in a few seconds, he would stand up and walk away. I needed to speak up, or he would walk away forever. My mind went blank. He stood back up. Standing in front of me, he tilted his head to the side and crinkled his nose. As I still didn’t say anything, he shook his head and turned to walk away.

"For someone who wants to be my boyfriend, you're not acting like it,” I said. He turned back to face me. Confusion and frustration spread across his face. I’d said the wrong thing. I dropped my head and turned. When he dropped his books. The sound made me jump, but not as much as when he reached out and wrapped his hands around my biceps. My instincts were to pull away from the sudden contact, but it only made him increase his grip. My stomach fluttered as I searched my brain trying to find something to say that didn't sound stupid or pathetic or desperate. He remained silent and pulled me close. I leaned toward him while my mind screamed, No, don’t do it, run away. I shouldn’t be doing this, not out of fear of him, but out of fear of losing control.

My breath increased and my heart was pounding out of my chest. A small part of my brain registered the pain from how tight he held my arms, but another part of my brain overrode the pain and my heart rate spiked with the realization. Oh, shit. He's going to kiss me. And, he did. His lips landed on mine, and it made my head spin. I was thankful for the grip on my arms, because I would have otherwise melted into the ground. His firm hands were a direct contradiction to his soft lips. I felt him pulling away and I followed, seeking more contact, but his grip flexed as if warning me to stop. I didn’t have a second to think because his lips were back on mine, harder this time.

He angled his head to the left, and he slid his tongue between my open lips. As soon as our tongues touched, he withdrew, and I sought it out. His grip on my arms tightened, but as my triceps began to shake, he loosened his grip. He let go and wrapped one arm around my waist. His other hand touched my chin to tilt it to the ideal angle in order for him to kiss me deeper. He directed this epic moment and I followed his cues. He paused and allowed air to pass between our moist lips, but my lips weren’t done. He opened his mouth and my tongue found his as I lifted my arms and wrapped them around his neck. I pulled him closer, and he wrapped his arms around me and held me tight. He no longer seemed in control of the situation. He reacted to my every move. I was in control. God, it felt good.

He knelt in front of her with a bouquet of red sunflowers. They looked like a sunset exploded over the soft slim petals. His hair was thick and dark, just begging for her fingers to slide their way through their silky locks. The smile he wore was devilishly handsome. But it was his eyes that had caused her breath to hitch in her throat. Such love and devotion stared at her from those amber spheres. Hailey felt his love shining out of those eyes of his, felt it to her core. This man was everything to her, and he was finally getting off his ass and on his knee to ask her to mate him.
Apparently her declaration of wanting to spend forever with him was not good enough. He had to do it his way and that meant waiting three months for him to finally get around to this. Hailey’s patience had been wearing thin on the subject. Every time she would ask about their mating, he would smile, a secret hiding in the expression and tell her to not worry about it. He must have forgotten who he was talking to because worrying was a favorite pastime of Hailey’s.
But now, in this moment, he was getting around to doing what she had dreamed countless nights on. Sharply dressed in one of her favorite suits, he looked cleaned, pressed and sexy as hell. He wanted to look nice for her, she realized. Dak knew how much she enjoyed looking at him in a suit, it was like lingerie to a woman. Hailey however was something of a mess. She had been painting a bookshelf and for some reason, the paint was more attracted to her than the wood. She had blue smudges all over her arms and legs, matting a few pieces of her hair and a big spot on her cheek where a mosquito had bitten her and she slapped at it.
Dak reached into his jacket and pulled out a box. It was small and one every woman knew the shape of by heart.
“Céile,” he paused, mischief glittering his eyes. The anticipation that has nestled in her chest and the smile that had been growing on her face faltered. His expression wasn’t right. It didn’t match the situation. He was too excited, too mischievous and too playful. “Will you… hold these for me?” He handed her the flowers and bent to…tie his shoe?
What the fuck?
Hailey stared open mouthed, gaping and hands full. Without thinking, she flipped opened the box and found it to be empty. Her breath was ragged as color began to creep up her neck. This wasn’t the proposal she had thought it was going to be. Hell, it wasn’t even a proposal! What was he playing?
When Dak was done tying his shoe, he stood and took the flowers and box back from her. “Thanks,” he grinned and she wanted to smack him. “Oh wait, no. These are yours.” He handed back the flowers. “How’s the painting going?”
Still a bit shell shocked, Hailey took back the flowers but didn’t say anything. Her eyes were wide and she felt she had no control over her features as her mind raced. How could he just? When he knew that she? And then he?
Dak was smiling at her, knowingly. The Bastard.
“Sorry, Céile. I’ve got to get this box over to Dane.” He tossed it in the air and caught it. Her eyes followed the flip. “What would you like for dinner later? I’ve been craving Mexican, myself.”
Hailey finally found her voice. “T-that’s fine.”
“Good.” He kissed her cheek, the non-painted one and then walked passed her over to Dane’s cottage.

She found that even though he had given her flowers, she still wanted to throat punch him.

My Review

I started consuming Matcha Tea about two years ago and really like it. It is so good for you, with all of the antioxidants, fat blocker and fat burning benefits. It can be used in lattes, baking and smoothies. Anything you want to make, just add a bit of USDA Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder from Matcha Organics and start taking the benefits from this wonderful drink. Matcha Tea can be a bit bitter, especially if you are not used to it, I found it to be a bit of an earthy grassy flavor, with added honey's, rock sugars or any other sweetener you like to use, makes it a wonderful drink.

I not only drink Matcha Tea regularly, I like to make a quick drink in the morning. I use Soy Milk, but you can use any type of milk you want, I add a banana for the sweetness and thickening properties and then I add a half teaspoon of Matcha Green Tea, you don't need to add a lot either to get the great benefits. I put everything in my Magic Bullet and let it do it's thing for a few seconds. No need to disolve the tea, it will blend in perfectly. If you love to have smoothies, just add in 1/2 teaspoon, more or less, depending on how you like it along with your other healthy fruits and veggies. So good!! Plus a package will last quite awhile.

I received this product for review and for my honest opinions, which are my own.
