From “McKensie’s Christmas Gift” in Christmas in the Rockies

The fog cleared from McKensie’s brain. “And knowing my aunt, she insisted you have the wedding here.”
“Yeah. I thought about moving the location, but Shirley insisted we still have it at the hotel, and Olivia—”
“Wouldn’t have wanted you to change a thing. I get it. Yes, you’ll have it here.” McKensie prided herself on handling tense situations, a handy talent when managing a kitchen. She avoided looking at Cameron throughout her conversation with Julie and realized he hadn’t moved, patient as ever. “When is the wedding?”
“The week before Christmas.”
McKensie raised a brow and studied her friend. “That’s fast.”
Julie shrugged. “When it’s right, it’s right. That reminds me, I have one more thing to ask Shirley about the food. Meet you in the foyer in ten, big brother.” She stopped at the door and pointed to McKensie. “I will call you tomorrow. We have so much to catch up on.”
Julie exited the office with as much excitement as she entered. McKensie replayed some of her last words over in her mind. When it’s right, it’s right.

From “A Snowy Falls Christmas” in Christmas in the Rockies

Her breath faded into the crisp morning air. The stoneware mug cupped in her hands warmed her skin while the lavender tea blend stole away the frigid cold from within. She stood on the expansive deck overlooking the glistening waters of Winter Lake and contemplated her quiet return home.
The Snowy Falls Lodge stood tall and grand behind her, a landmark on the lake and in the quaint mountain village. Her grandmother would have said, “For better or worse, it is now yours, Maura.”
Maura spent the first twenty-five years of her life in the spacious rooms and luxurious halls of the lodge that blended the design of a Scottish castle and Victorian cattle ranch. The idea might have resulted in a haphazard structure had it not been for a truly talented, though little-known, Scottish architect named Charles Mackenzie.
Five years ago, Maura did what no one ever expected—she left home—and not because she didn’t love the lodge or the village. Her father called her a dreamer. Her mother used the word “wanderer,” and her grandmother often said she was a seeker. Maura appreciated her grandmother’s description best. What exactly Maura sought when she left Snowy Falls remained a mystery to everyone.

From “Christmas in Moose Creek” in Christmas in the Rockies

The 4x4 careened to a stop and the driver waited in disbelief at the deplorable timing of Mother Nature. Moose Creek, Montana, had its share of wildlife—bear, deer, elk, mountain lions—but in her thirty-three years, Saige Travers had never seen a moose on this mountain. Until today.
No one waited for her in her swank two-bedroom condo in Seattle except the goldfish her brother gave to her as a joke for her birthday. She’d needed a break from the city and the cataclysmic string of end-of-the-road relationships she’d been in the past five years. More like dates, if she was going to be honest with herself.
Saige Travers didn’t have time for relationships.

Exotic pet-sitter Belinda Blake is nervous about her new job at the White Pine Wolf Preserve, but it turns out that the care and feeding of wild carnivores may be the least dangerous part of the gig . . .
Pet-sitter Belinda Blake is no stranger to dealing with wild animals, but she’s wary when the owner of the Greenwich, Connecticut, preserve asks her to help out with her “fluffy darlings.” Her caution seems justified on her very first day, when she discovers a tour guide—dead, bloodied, and surrounded by wolves in the enclosure.
Was it death by predator or something more sinister? The body count rises, but something’s not adding up. As she gets to know the rescued wolves and wolf-dog hybrids better, Belinda realizes that her human colleagues are not above suspicion. With help from her own “pack”—her pregnant sister, Red the chauffeur/bodyguard, and hunky farmer Jonas—Belinda is hot on the killer’s tail, but if she doesn’t find him soon, he’ll do more than muzzle her to keep the truth from escaping.

My Review
Exercise is Murder by Carolyn Arnold is McKinley Mysteries, Book 12. A great cozy mystery series that features Sean and Sara McKinley, former detectives turned PI's, Pay It Forward Investigations. In this book, Katie Carpenter a woman who enjoys running has fallen down a ravine and is found facedown in the Hudson River. The police say that it was an accident but her friends don't believe that. They think she was murdered.

Sean and Sara McKinley are contacted and they take on the case. This is not an easy case as they soon find out. The suspects range from a prominent sports figure to a mousy schoolteacher. As the investigation continues, they find that there was a lot more about Katie's life than thought. Who would want Katie dead and why?

Even though this book is the 12th in the series, it is a standalone read. This is the first I have read in this series, I have read a couple other books in different mystery series that I also enjoyed. That said, I did enjoy this cozy mystery. An easy to read book, I read it in two sittings. I loved the characters of husband-wife team private investigators. The development of the other characters was seamless. Upon reading, I could see how this series is popular, after 12 of them it must be!

I received a copy of the book for review!

There, she finds herself lured by the promise of friendship, love, starry skies and wild parties. But Maureen’s new life just might be too good to be true, and before the summer is up, she vanishes.

Decades later, when Allison Simpson is offered the opportunity to house-sit in Opal Beach during the off-season, it seems like the perfect chance to begin fresh after a messy divorce. But when she becomes drawn into the mysterious disappearance of a girl 30 years before, Allison realizes the gorgeous homes of Opal Beach hide dark secrets. And the truth of that long-ago summer is not even the most shocking part of all.

My Review!
One Night Gone by Tara Laskowski is a story told dual timelines. It is a story of murder, betrayal, and redemption. It takes place in the 1980s in a small beachside town, Opal Beach. Maureen is a young woman finds herself joining a traveling carnival. She spends her time working and partying. She meets a young man who is way out of her league, rich and coming from influential parents. We get to know her dreams and inspirations. Then one night she disappears.

Thirty years later in 2015, Allison is fired from her job as a weather girl, she found that her husband cheated on her and she calls him out on air. Not the thing to do. As a result, Allison takes on a job that has her house watching in Opal Beach. She learns about Maureen and becomes embroiled in a closed case of Maureen's disappearance, but it also puts her in danger. Many characters, who can be trusted and what happened to Maureen? Everyone thinks that she just moved on...or did she?

The author has written a great thriller of the two women and did it in such a way that certainly had me wanting to keep reading. I actually read it in two sittings. I love a story that has dual storylines. The author shared with the reader the coming of age story of Maureen and the redemption of Allison as she searches into the disappearance of Maureen. This is a story that keeps the reader wanting more.

I loved the book and would certainly recommend it if you like a good mystery/thriller!

I received a copy of the book for review purposes.
