Rose's Ghost By Theresa Dale Virtual Book Tour and Interview! @theresadaleauthor

Rose's Ghost
By Theresa Dale
Genre: Fiction/Thriller/Supernatural
Maggie’s worries about moving to her husband’s childhood home in rural Nova Scotia couldn’t have prepared her for the disturbing events that began right after they moved in.

Nevertheless, she and her family became quickly entangled in the torment of long-dead neighbors who remained tethered to the land on which their tragic lives - and deaths - played out...but death did not free Rose from the tragedies of her life. And between that time and the haunting of Maggie’s family, her enduring madness has twisted her reality into something darkly skewed. Increasingly desperate, she beseeches those who reside upon and around her land to aid her in her quest, but her efforts threaten to alter the lives of those whose help she enlists – or end them.

Rose's Ghost is the first in a chilling series of three about a family’s connection with a tormented ghost, still desperate to gain back the child she lost.

Interview with Theresa

What do you find most challenging about the writing process, and how do you deal with it?
Writing hurts! I have a chronic pain disease, so everything is fraught with extra challenges, now. I have so much to write, but when my fingers cramp up or the brain fog takes hold, I’m left without options. Just looking at the screen is a challenge, some days.
I deal with it by writing early in the day, when I have the most energy and the least pain. And when I can’t write on the laptop, I dictate ideas or block things out with pen and paper. I’ve got countless books full of handwritten story notes!
When and where do you do your writing?
I try to write every day. I block out a couple hours in the morning, when I’m at my best, and just do as much as I can before I need a nap, ha! I usually write in bed, or on the couch, propped up with pillows, a tea at hand.
What have you learned about promoting your books?
It’s essential, but spending a ton of money isn’t. I’ve learned the hard way that more money doesn’t always equal more sales. I’ve had to do my research, and am still learning, but the one thing I swear by is building your reader following. You need a solid social media presence. And book promos and giveaways have brought me a wider audience than if I’d never thrown my work out there for honest critiques.
My next goal for promotion is to build a solid email list. I don’t know enough about it to just dive in, so more research is up next.
What are you most proud of as a writer?
Just getting them out is a feat for me; I’ve always had stories in my head, but it took a disease to slow me down enough to actually get them out. I’ve never been a patient person, haha! Just as important is the feedback I get from readers, especially those who get it – those who gained something by reading what I’ve written. It just makes it all worth it.
If you could have dinner with any writer, living or dead, who would it be and what would you talk about?
Meave Binchy. I’m still so sad she’s gone – I’ve read everything she’s written, I think. I just love how she challenged me, how she described Ireland and its people, and I always related to the characters; she had such a gift for writing people.
What we’d talk about – I’d hope to listen, mostly. I’d just want to hear anything she had to say, and if she had words of wisdom for me, or – imagine – feedback on any of my work, I’d probably lose it completely.

 Brief Excerpt:

She was in her back yard. Birds were singing in the trees, and she was aware of the distant sound of a lawnmower. She knelt in the soil, planting seeds of zucchini, carrots and tomatoes. It was long, dirty work, but she loved it. There was something fulfilling about planting a vegetable garden. Something reassuring about the promise of growing your own food.
She heard the phone in the kitchen ring. Wiping her hands on her jeans (she never used gloves), she ran to get it, wondering absently, when did I plant a garden?
She spoke to Zoe briefly; she’d asked for Jack, who was at work, to plan a joint gift for Martin, and Maggie was little help.
As she hung up, a movement from the window caught her eye. Her hand froze on the wall-mounted handset as she looked at the woman standing on the other side of the bridge.
Some memory from a different time tried to surface, but she was unable to grasp it. What was it? This woman. Where had she seen her before? She finally let go of the phone and walked to the window. The woman was looking at her, too.
There was something dripping from her left arm. And she held something in her right hand. What was that?
Maggie stepped outside onto a thin blanket of snow. Hadn’t it just been warm? When did it snow?
The woman waved at her then. Waved with the hand that held something. Maggie moved closer, smiling and waving back.
“Hello! Did you come from the trail?” She stopped.
The woman was holding a severed hand.
Maggie’s hands flew to her face, and she covered her mouth before she could scream.
The woman smiled and lowered her waving hand – the hand that was holding what must be her other hand because, at this closer proximity, Maggie could see her left hand was indeed missing from its arm, and severed roughly, at that, hence the steady stream of blood flowing into the snow.
Oh my God!” she yelled and ran toward the woman, who quickly held out the severed hand, as if to say, stop.
Maggie skidded in her tracks, her eyes riveted on the woman. She watched as she brought the forefinger of the hand to her lips and said, “Shhhhh. He’ll hear you.” She looked in the direction of the farm.
Dark rivulets of blood flowed from the stump of the hand down her arm, and the blood on the finger smeared over her lips.
Maggie sank to her knees, screaming, and in some trick of perspective, the woman appeared on Maggie’s side of the bridge, again bringing the forefinger of the severed hand to her lips as she shushed her. Her eyes were wide in – what? – fear?
Maggie flew backward at the shock of the woman’s sudden closeness, and just as suddenly she was standing above her, smiling down at her, her mouth impossibly wide, stretching her face grotesquely. “There was so much blood,” the woman said, her mouth widening into a gaping, black hole in her face as her jaw stretched to her chest and the word “blood” seemed to go on forever. Maggie felt certain she’d be engulfed by it and live in this terror forever.

A stolen Christmas kiss leaves them bewildered and breathless.

A charming rogue-turned-vicar, Will wants to prove that he left his rakish days behind him, but an accidental kiss changes all his plans. His secret could bring them together...or divide them forever.

Holly has two Christmas wishes this year; finally earn her mother's approval by gaining the notice of a handsome earl, and learn the identity of the stranger who gave her a heart-shattering kiss...even if that stranger is the resident Christmas ghost.

Snippet:

Will set the ladder near one of the columns and eyed the metal supports bolted to the pillars on either side of the altar. Good. All was ready for the candles to be placed for the Christmas service. Miss Gray moved like a dancer amidst the pews, her slender, yet curvy form softly contrasting with the stone walls. She was such a spot of cheer.
Raised to marry a lord. Not a vicar.
That same kicked-in-the-gut sensation returned. Muttering under his breath, Will followed the rector into the vestry to collect the candles. He hurried back, almost starving for Miss Gray’s presence. As they worked, Miss Gray hummed The Holly and the Ivy.
Will listened to her sweet voice for a moment and couldn’t resist joining in. Bradbury also sang with a strong bass that harmonized with the melody. Was there anything that wretched lord didn’t do well? Will indulged in some very un-Christian thoughts about the oh-so-perfect lord.
Mrs. Gray also sang, with a voice as lovely as her daughter’s. After a moment, the cheery tunes lifted Will’s mood. Standing on the ladder, Will added the extra candles needed for the Christmas service, then assisted in wrapping the columns as Miss Gray had suggested.
In less than an hour, they transformed the humble parish church into a celebratory Christmas haven, almost fit for a drawing room.
“It’s perfect,” Miss Gray exclaimed. “A pity we cannot hang a kissing ball.”
Will choked and laughed at the outrageous statement. Honestly, he agreed. Lord Bradbury’s eyes widened. Mrs. Gray shot her daughter a withering look.
The poor girl flushed and bit her lip, looking down. “Erm, I mean…”
Mr. Appleby didn’t see the humor, either. “Adding such a pagan symbol as mistletoe would no doubt create a public outcry and possibly have me removed from my position as vicar.”
Of course, if Will could get Miss Holly Gray beneath a kissing ball….
Ahem.
For all intents and purposes, Will had given his word not to pursue her. He reviewed his newfound resolve to cling to duty, to turn over a new leaf in life, and to please his family by bringing honor rather than dishonor to the Berry name. Keeping his word, duly given to a lady, fell squarely into that resolve. No more romantic fantasies about Miss Gray.
Very well, he’d avoid Holly Gray as much as possible without appearing to give her the cut. He must resist talking to her or even looking at her. He must.
Of course, that included ensuring that she never discover who had kissed her, which meant he must continue an ungentlemanly deception.

Christmas is in the air.
Pulling Garrett Johansson over isn't the most auspicious beginnging to a relationship for Officer Lisa Weight, but at least she didn't have to give him a ticket. Not that she's looking for a guyeven if her mom says she should be.

Garrett is glad to visit his sister, Sheila, during the Christmas season, but he hadn't counted on a major snow storm as soon as he landed in Kansas City. When his sister introduces the cop who pulled him over as a friend of hers, he puts their less-than-stellar beginnings in the past and gives her a chance. The more he gets to know her, the better he likes her. If only he didn't live 1600 miles away in California.

With everything trying to keep them apart, can they still have a Merry Christmas?"

Snippet:

Her smile curved in invitation and Garrett wished they were alone somewhere.
"Kiss her," a woman in her fifties said, breaking the mood. "You're standing under the mistletoe. You have to kiss her."
Garrett looked up and then around the room. All the alcoves had a sprig of mistletoe dangling in them. He looked back at Lisa, wondering if she'd planned this. He lifted a brow, questioning if she wanted to please the other party goers. She gave a nearly indiscernible nod of ascent.
Deciding he shouldn't feel self-conscious if the people were egging him on, Garrett leaned in and pressed his mouth to Lisa's.
