She Will Be Loved by Theresa Troutman Release Party!

Three very different girls searching for love.

Everyone deserves a happy ending, that’s what Penny Stanton thought. Only her ending was anything but happy after her husband died. Her friends had been an amazing support system over the year following Maxwell’s death, but there was a hole in Penny’s heart she felt would never heal. Can an old flame reignite her passion and make her take a second chance on love?

Mattie Irons was rambunctious, charming, and smart. She was the apple of her parents’ eyes until her baby brother was born. Her parents, especially her mother, spent more time cooing over the infant than paying attention to Mattie. Now Mattie is feeling unloved, leaving Sebastian and Tess searching for a way to abate their daughter’s fears.

Kate Hamilton has made the move to England to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Her new upper-crust English lifestyle is a long way from middle class suburbia in America. She volunteers at the local children’s hospital and helps Tess raise the children. Yet Sutton castle is a large building and it, along with its butler, are very intimidating. Can she adapt to this new life as her daughter did and find love again?

The rising socioeconomic toll of diabetes, in particular the Type 2 form of the disease, is reverberating around the world. A disease that has sporadically plagued mankind for centuries seems to have increased in prevalence in tandem with rapid economic transitions, notably in countries with the highest number of diabetics such as China and the USA. This resource guide is comprised of information about diabetes in those countries as well as in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Africa. In addition, the latest antidiabetic therapies and infectious comorbidities associated with the disease are discussed in separate chapters. Scattered throughout the guide are fictional scenarios about challenges diabetics and their doctors might face in individualizing recommended management algorithms.

Praise for Perspectives on Type 2 Diabetes by Zeena Nackerdien:

Type 2 diabetes, characterized by the body’s progressive inability to utilize insulin, is rapidly approaching a prevalence of one in ten (9.3% in 2014) in both the U.S. and China. This silent epidemic manifests itself initally as a rise in blood sugar. Dr. Nackerdien found herself challenged by signs of the early stages of this condition, and has produced an excellent summary of early intervention goals and guidelines. This “translation” of technical information to an understandable guideline format is a must-have for real people who find themselves on the cusp of this debilitating condition."- Curt, Amazon Reviewer

Who are the groups likely to be in the frontlines of either administering or receiving anti-HIV/AIDS-containing treatments for this disease and any associated comorbidities? The answer is frontline healthcare professionals, lay educators, and patients, especially in high-disease burden countries such as South Africa. While the reinvigorated national response to HIV/AIDS underscores the country's commitment to the health crisis, the socioeconomic costs are likely to have a lasting impact on its citizens. I have compiled a resource kit outlining some of the challenges faced in the treatment of patients with HIV, TB, and diabetes. In addition, the kit contains disease management and prevention tips suited for discussions with healthcare professionals, particularly in resource-poor settings.

PATIENT EDUCATION

The national love-hate relationship with food plays out at all-you-can-eat buffets, eating competitions, and doctor’s offices in search of panaceas for expanding waistlines. I am no exception. So, I shall digress in this chapter focusing mostly on behavioral changes, by waxing lyrical about food in a story about A South African Thanksgiving in Brooklyn:44
Familiar food smells wafted in the air. The temperature outside was dropping towards freezing point, as if to underscore the dreary Thanksgiving Day weather forecasts and delayed travel plans. However, the icy rain and wind gusts did not put a damper on the holiday spirit in a certain Brooklyn home. Menu staples received a South African culinary twist, to reflect the birthplace of the hostess, an immigrant and aspiring chef.  She added tangerine zest for extra flavor to the butternut squash soup and, after a quick phone call to the butterball Turkey-Talk-Line®, decided to disregard the advice and add Nando’s peri-peri sauce as an accompaniment to the turkey (stuffed with a sage and boerewors mixture). Her cranberry sauce was stepped up a notch with horseradish. Corn-fried onion rings concealed the green bean casserole from the view of health-conscious guests. Her apple pie was prepared with evaporated milk and she added spice to her pumpkin pie crust for good luck.
This was her first Thanksgiving as a naturalized citizen and she was determined to impress her guests, in spite of the dietary doom-and-gloom brigade announcing that the typical holiday meal contained about 4,500 calories. She pondered adding turtle soup and oysters – side-dishes at Thanksgiving meals of a bygone era – to the table, but was dissuaded from doing so by her spouse. One of her guests, a health-conscious Native American history professor, bemoaned Thanksgiving’s history. She put roasted brussels sprouts and mini-carrot custards in front of him, hoping that the vegetables might stop the tirade. Then she hurried into the kitchen to put her signature bobotie dish into the oven. She was sure that the smell of the minced-meat dish would lure her brother, who had recently arrived from South Africa, out of the guest room.
Fifty years after the Rivonia trial emblazoned the name of a young black lawyer, Nelson Rolilahla Mandelaaka Madiba (Xhosa clan name), into the international consciousness, her brother was here to tell her stories about contemporary South Africa. The trial in which African National Congress leaders were tried for acts of sabotage to overthrow apartheid belonged to the annals of history, but Madiba belonged to the world. He knew that she shared his vivid memories of the dawning of a new country and the promise of equitable government under the aegis of the South African political party formerly headed by Mandela, the African National Congress. While the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and others had provided the tools for greatness, he also knew that he had to impart the news that the promise of this fledgling democracy had yet to be fulfilled. To date, South Africa’s policy of black economic empowerment had not translated into increased job growth. According to one observer, only one out of four South African adults had jobs.
Luckily he was an entrepreneur and an optimist. He would coax his sister into the seeing the new Mandela movie, Long Walk to Freedom, as a reward for her hard work. They would compare their own opinions with negative reviews by film critics and then settle down to discussions about the family and the future of South Africa. He could not wait to tell her about his ideas. Now that to overcome the youth unemployment crisis back home. As a businesswoman in the USA, she would understand his dream and lend a helping hand. Technology had blurred global boundaries and maybe, just maybe, it could also contribute to the continued success of another nation.

Self-Management

After the feel-good story it is time to return to the reality of what can be done to optimize patient self-management of diabetes. Insert chapter seven text here. The Canadian Diabetes Association suggests the discussion of smart, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely (S.M.A.R.T.) goals at every diabetes-focused doctor’s visit in order to tailor treatment according to the disease type, patient ability, and motivation for learning and change. An action plan should entail timely, culturally and literacy appropriate diabetes education and resources. Dietary and physical-activity counselling should both be addressed in order to optimize treatment and achieve a healthy weight. Counsel should be provided about all medications as well as the need to recognize the symptoms of drug-induced hypoglycemia and to prevent the onset of this condition. Self-monitoring of blood glucose and foot care should be part of a daily routine. Formal smoking prevention and cessation counselling should be provided where necessary and patients should be screened for mental health and mood disorders.

To enter, just leave a comment answering the question: If you or anyone you know is Diabetic, what is the hardest challenge you face? I am diabetic and I find that exercising regularly was one of the most important things to do. I am still able to get out to exercise, but some people can't. If this is the case it is very important to take your blood sugars and adjust your insulin intake. If you don't need insulin, take your medications as prescribed and eat sensibly. It is easy to tell what foods will make your blood sugar fluctuate. I have been battling this disease for over 10 years. When my medications got way expensive and I could not lose the weight, I had to do something.

I became disabled in 2009 and was pretty sedentary and I realized it was time to change something. I went on a diet where the only thing I really do consistently is count calories, of course I do watch what I eat. I eat pretty much what I want, within reason. I am very particular with portion control also. I go to the Y in winter months and do the treadmill for an hour and weights for 30 minutes. I have not gone to the Y at all this summer but hubby and I walk 3-4 days a week, 2-3 miles each time. I have knee issues and balance issues so some days walking is challenging. I have also been diagnosed with Parkinsonian symptoms and decided that I was not going to let these diseases get the best of me. Long story short, I lost 65 lbs, I am off insulin, still take oral meds though and my blood sugars went from being 200-300's consistently to 80-150. I do realize that in order for me to stay this way, I have to continue what I am doing. I know that everyone is different and what I do may not work for you.

Also when entering, please leave an email address so I can contact you if you should win.!
Good luck!!!

He never expected that the HR professional he’d be forced to work with on a daily basis would be gorgeous, challenging and smart as hell. He’s not the type to accept help from anyone, especially not a bubbly, policy-enforcer that he’d rather bend over his desk. Never one to lose focus, Lucas avoids Gabby at all costs until circumventing her becomes career suicide.

Fraternizing in the workplace is strictly prohibited and neither one of them are willing to break the rules. But with their undeniable chemistry about to ignite, Lucas and Gabby must decide which consequence is worse – combusting from sexual frustration or violating company policy.

Almost a Millennium, by Jeanbill, Spotlight!

Almost a Millennium, by Jeanbill, was published in January 2015 and is available for sale on Amazon. Genres: Historical / Fiction / Medieval / Religion / Theism

Almost a Millennium is an eclectic novel about the unlikely connection between an English monk and an American physician that lived nearly 1,000 years apart, one of today and one in the medieval period. It begins at their birth, traveling through time to their adulthood.

Using cryptography, Paul, a monk at Llanthony Abbey in Wales, writes a four-page document about his life and a harsh critique of the crusades. He places his writings in safekeeping in the hope that it will survive the crusades and eventually land in the hands of someone who can decipher his secrets. When Fred unexpectedly comes across Paul’s book and ciphers Paul’s cryptic message, he has no idea that four pages of millennial history will challenge him to rethink Christianity.

“Almost a Millennium by Jeanbill is a deeply compelling historical fiction novel. Although a work of fiction, the story is a depiction of England's history and the power dynamics at the time. It is a richly detailed story and many times I found myself forgetting that I was reading a work of fiction as the historical events described felt very authentic. The setting of the story and the character development were simply amazing as we dived into Paul and Fred's compelling background stories. Paul and Fred were two people so different and yet so alike. The pace of the story was set from the beginning and this held true to the very last page. Jeanbill used a unique and very captivating style in developing this story.” - Reviewed by Faridah Nassozi for Readers’ Favorite.

CHAPTER ONE

This evening the wind will be gusting to forty miles an hour. No rain in sight, but a rapidly moving cloud cover will probably hide tonight’s full moon that will be directly above us for a few short hours. If you are lucky and outdoors, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the moon if there is a break in the cloud cover.” Fred reached to shut off his favorite radio station, knowing he would not be hearing this weatherman again.
It was a few minutes past eight o’clock; two hours before, the sun had disappeared over the western horizon. The wind was blowing the clouds swiftly, shutting out the full moonlight above. Occasionally, a brief flash reflected from the landscape, lighting the grassy areas, tall trees in the distance, and rows of bushes along the expressway. The road was free of vehicles as far as Fred could see.

When the sun had set the day before, he had finally decided that it was the time to make a decision. He had all night to think about how to solve his problem of atheism versus God, but was not being able to do so. At long last, he decided upon a solution, knowing what to do and how to do it. He felt immediate relief. Later that day, he went to the hospital and to the clinic to sign all the charts that required his signature. He felt it was his obligation to be caught up with all the paperwork that needed his attention. He had the time that day to vacuum some of the floors and clean all the dishes that needed washing. He wanted to wait until it was dark, for traffic would be minimal on the freeway.

Helen had decided to leave Friday morning for her sister’s home. She, too, would have time to gather her thoughts and to make some decision about the future of her marriage to Fred. He had not told her what the problem was; they had had the same argument again. This time Helen told Fred that he would have to explain himself and verbally respond to her questions of “What’s wrong?” and “Why don’t you talk to me?” She had always felt close to him since their marriage, although an occasional brief period of pensiveness bothered her during that time. For the last month, Fred appeared to be more preoccupied. At first it was only once in a while, lasting only a few hours—then he was back to his usual outgoing and cheerful self. But now he had been moody all day long for the past several days.

Fred knew what the problem was, but he could not explain it to Helen. She would not understand. He had told her no problems existed at the medical clinic where he treated patients. But, what he did tell her was that his problem was indirectly related to his bi-monthly (bimestrial) meetings with a group of friends sharing the same interests--timely topics, such as atheism, religion, politics, chaos theory, and evolution. Fred had told her he’d been happily studying these subjects for years. Not knowing the specifics of what they studied, she felt he looked pleased about attending the meetings with his friends. He believed in atheism, and topics regarding that subject or religion always seemed to make him uncomfortable. Finally, Helen was able to force Fred to talk about his real problem.

Happiness pervaded Fred’s love for Helen ever since he’d met her six years earlier. Within a year, they were married, and life had continued to be content until a few months ago when he was exposed to that “book.” It appeared now that he was not enjoying the everyday tasks, not listening carefully to his patients and medical peers, and not attending Helen as he had done in the past. His world had become topsy-turvy and what he thought he proved as true may have been other- wise. This mental alteration began when he first deciphered the secret writings in the last four pages of the “book.”
Up until the last few months, he had plotted his whole life from the time he was in college through medical school, his first marriage, his successful practice, and his esteemed position in the community. He achieved these goals with a keen ability to manipulate the people close to him, meaning he was in complete control. Just two achievements were not manipulated: his second marriage when he fell completely in love with Helen, having no desire to exploit her, and the “other matter” that seemed to have taken control of him.

A little over six feet, broad shoulders, brown hair with streaks of gray consistent with his age in the early forties, a friendly smile most of the time, and that sparkle in the eyes that would attract others—-these physical attributes characterized Fred. His “other matter” reached its climax a month ago after breaking the code in the “book.” At that time, his demeanor changed, fights began with his wife, he lost interest in his surroundings, and rapidly descended from despondency to deep depression.

Driving at seventy miles an hour, Fred did not notice the botanical life that he passed and the fast moving clouds with occasional lunar light streaking the darkness. He was driving for only one fanatical reason. He was searching for the panacea that would relieve his anger, his fear, his frustration, and the depression that seemed to have consumed his life. The overpass was one mile ahead. At its base, massive cylindrical cement supports were in place adjacent to the highway. In the distance, they were barely visible but became larger and closer as he began accelerating faster and faster. No cars were in view, which gave him some relief. No one would see the crash, and there would be no harm to drivers of other automobiles. Moving his right hand from the steering wheel, reaching down to his seat belt and unlatching it, he began to veer his new red sedan diagonally across the other two lanes, directing the car to the closest brightly lit pillar by the car’s high beams. It was dark out; the clouds on high appeared thick, hiding any traces of moonlight. In only a few seconds, he would be relieved of the depression and heavy burden he’d carried for the past month. He finally would be at rest--clear- headed at last. Closer and closer, it was now time!

Where did it come from? The sky was dark like a moonless night. The moon could not be seen, but there was that flashing, sustained light that appeared brightly in the windshield blinding him. Suddenly, he turned the steering wheel in a clockwise motion, not knowing why! A strange, steady sensation electrified his whole body from his hands to his feet. Driving to the right shoulder of the highway, he braked the car to a stop and turned off the ignition.

Sweating profusely, he wiped his hands on a towel lying on the floor mat. What was I thinking, did I really want to take my life? I was so ready to end it and would have, except for that damn flash of light coming from nowhere. It must have been the moonlight shining through a break in the clouds. Why did I make the decision to commit suicide instead of working things out? Everyone has his breaking point or a point of no return, and I must have reached it, but this time that flash of light prevented my reaching the goal of finality. Could Chaos theory explain this experience, a small movement of a cloud results in saving my life.

While sitting in the car, his heart rate was decreasing to normalcy, the perspiration had ceased, and a generalized calm pervaded his body--a feeling he had never experienced in his life. Was this the type of sensation Paul had? It could have been but certainly of lesser quality.

Why did he want to end his life? He had a successful career. He had no financial worries, well respected by his peers, happy with his practice, happy with his new wife, and pleased that he accomplished so much since the death of his mother. He enjoyed all these endeavors until the “book.” Then, it seemed everything began to disintegrate, not all at once, but slowly, like an insidious disease. He thought about past incidents in his life that could have started him toward the point of no return: the death of his parents, the desire to become a physician, his first wife, his second wife, his sometimes fanatical promotion of atheism, or did it begin with Paul who lived a thousand years ago?

Fred started his car, found the nearest turnoff, returned to the freeway, and headed back home. As soon as he reached home, he went to the telephone to call Helen. Her sister answered and gave the telephone to his wife. He said, “Helen, we have to talk.”

The Right Wrong Thing by Ellen Kirschman Review With Giveaway! #TheRightWrongThing

The Book

Officer Randy Spelling had always wanted to be a police officer, to follow in the footsteps of her brothers and her father. Not long after joining the force, she mistakenly shoots and kills Lakeisha Gibbs, a pregnant teenager. The community is outraged; Lakeisha’s family is vocal and vicious in their attacks against Spelling. Suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and filled with remorse, Randy is desperate to apologize to the girl’s family. Everyone, including the police chief, warns her against this, but the young police officer will not be dissuaded. Her attempt is catastrophic. Dr. Dot Meyerhoff, a police psychologist, plunges herself into the investigation despite orders from the police chief to back off. Not only does the psychologist’s refusal to obey orders jeopardize her career, but her life as well, as she enlists unlikely allies and unconventional undercover work to expose the tangled net of Officer Spelling’s disastrous course.

The Author

I've been a police and public safety psychologist for thirty-plus years before I had any gray hair. My work with first responders has taken me to four countries and twenty-two states.

Nowadays, I spend my time writing, teaching, and volunteering as a clinician at the West Coast Post-Trauma Retreat for first responders (see the links page). I Love a Cop: What Police Families Need to Know was my first book and, to date, it has sold more than 100,000 copies. I Love a Fire Fighter: What the Family Needs to Know came next, prompted by the tragic events of September 11th. Following that I wrote Counseling Cops: What Clinicians Need to Know with two psychology colleagues, both of whom are retired cops.

Burying Ben-A Dot Meyerhoff Mystery, is my first-ever novel. My second, The Right Wrong Thing is now available for pre-order. You can also enter to win a free first edition hardcover copy. Go to TRWT homepage and scroll down to the post about winning a free book and follow the prompts.

Writing fiction is a new skill for me. I used to think that making things up would be easier than writing non-fiction. What a delusion! Creating a story that captures the reader's attention from page one is a tricky business.

On a more personal note, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband, who is a photographer (he took the photos for all my books) and retired remodeling contractor. In our spare time we hike, travel, and cook - not in that order.

I enjoy hearing from my readers and from mystery fans. And I love seeing your reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, and Facebook.

The Review

"Randy Alderson Spelling looks more like a girl than a woman. So tiny she's nearly lost I the cushions of my office couch. Her legs jut out over the floor until she scoots forward and places her feet squarely on the ground, leaving a foot of space behind her. She waits for me to start, all the while pulling on her fingers, cracking each tiny knuckle. I'm the last hurdle between her and the job she covets - a police officer for the Kenilworth Police Department."

The Right Wrong Thing by Ellen Kirschman is the second novel in the Dot Meyerhoff Mystery series featuring police psychologist, Dot Meyerhoff. Dr.Meyerhoff is the liaison between police officers and the department. Randy Spelling is a new graduate, eager to get out there and solve some crimes. Her first day out is disastrous, in the pursuit of a suspected criminal, Randy freezes, which could have put her and her partner in serious circumstances, her partner actually gets hurt. After this happens Officer Spelling is ostracized by some of the men in her department.

When Officer Spelling is out on duty, she inadvertently shoots and kills a young black teenager who is pregnant. Not only is she trying to be a good cop, but she becomes a target for the black community who want her punished. She is found to have done the right thing, but she does not feel that way. She wants to put things right by apologizing to the young girls family. She is ridden with guilt and just wants to put things right. What ensues is Dot getting involved where she is told to stay out of it, it is not in her line of duty. She ignores all of that and gets in over her head after a cop is killed. Written in Dr.Meyerhoff's perspective, the reader also learns about her personal relationships in and out of the police force.

The author, Ellen Kirschman writes with all of the knowledge that she possesses after being in law enforcement for many years and it shows in her writing. A novel full of twists and turns, very well written and fast paced. I really enjoyed this novel and finished it within two sittings. Even though I had not read the first book, Burying Ben, it did not detract from the storyline.

I received a copy of the book for my thoughts and was not monetarily compensated.
