MASKED POSSESSION
by Alana Delacroix
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Pub Date: 8/8/2017
A MAN WHO CAN WEAR ANY FACE
Caro Yeats doesn’t run from much. As a former investigative reporter now working PR for Toronto’s supernaturals, what she hasn’t seen mostly isn’t worth seeing. But the assignment to “rebrand” Eric Kelton’s out-of-control alter egos has her on edge from the start. Kelton is the heirarch of the Masquerada, beings able to change their face—their entire persona—on a whim. Eric’s charisma muddles her instincts. How can she trust a man who can become anybody?

A WOMAN WITHOUT A PAST
Eric has never met anyone like Caro, with her lightning wit and uncanny insight. But desirable as she is, he’d be a fool to let her near. Struggling to hide the sudden loss of his powers, Eric can’t risk becoming entangled with a woman who scorns her supernatural side and claims not to play politics. The enemies on her trail are strong, clever, and vicious. And when they force Eric and Caro together, the fallout could shatter far more than two hearts . . .

A Lady in Disguise (Daughters of Hampshire #3) by Sandra Byrd Review!

After the mysterious death of her father, Miss Gillian Young takes a new job as the principal costume designer at the renowned Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. But while she remembers her father as a kind, well-respected man of the Police Force, clues she uncovers indicate he’d been living a double life: a haunting photograph of a young woman; train stubs for secret trips just before his death; and a receipt for a large sum of money.

Then Gillian meets the dashing Viscount Thomas Lockwood. Their attraction is instant and inescapable. As their romantic involvement grows, Gillian begins to suspect even Lockwood’s motives. Does Lord Lockwood truly love her? Or is his interest a front for the desire to own her newly inherited property?

Soon Gillian is convinced that her father has left evidence somewhere that can prove his innocence and reveal the guilty party. But someone wants to stop her from discovering it. The closer she comes to uncovering it, the more menacing her opposition grows. With her life on the line, Gillian takes on an ingenious disguise and takes on the role of a lifetime to reveal the true killer—before it’s too late both for her and for those that she loves.

Gillian Young is a talented seamstress and works for the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane and her father has just died in an accident. She finds out that her father may have led a double life. She meets Viscount Thomas Lockwood, a very handsome young man who is actually a neighbor in Hampshire where the family home, Winton Park is. After her father's death, she finds out that her mother, also deceased, wants the house to be donated to the 'Cause'.

The Cause is where there are people who want to stop the human trafficking that is taking place. One organization, The Salvation Army, that tries to do good and help the helpless if you will. A lot of children, mainly girls are sold into slavery and often into prostitution and this is also a topic that is not often talked about in certain circles, this is Victorian England in the late 1800's. Gillian ends up taking into her home two girls that if left on their own would have been entered into this life. She soon grows fond of these two girls and they help her make the costumes for the theater.

After Gillian has left her father's funeral and returns home she finds that her home has been searched by the police. They seem to be looking for proof of her father's supposed dishonesty. She finds herself being followed and does not know whom to trust. She searches her home and Winton Park to see if she can find proof that her father was innocent of any wrongdoing.

A Lady in Disguise is the third novel in the Daughters of Hampshire series. I have read them all and I have enjoyed each one. The depth of the characters, the plot etc is written in such a way that you can almost feel the mists rolling along the streets and the darkness of the tale reminds me of other Gothic authors that I have read over the years, particularly Victoria Holt and Mary Stewart. The research is impeccable and the story is romantic but a clean romance. Very reminiscent of authors from the early to mid 1900's. I love all of Sandra's books, especially her Tudor series, my favorite era in historical fiction. I look forward to whatever comes next from Sandra Byrd!

Series: V.I. Warshawski

Synopsis:

Sara Paretsky, one of the most legendary crime writers of all time, presents an exclusive and thrilling short story featuring beloved investigator V.I. Warshawski as a ten-year-old girl on her first investigation.
V.I. Warshawski developed her strength and sense of justice at a very early age. It’s 1966 and on the south side of Chicago racial tensions are at an all-time high. Dr. Martin Luther King is leading marches at Marquette Park and many in the neighborhood are very angry.
With nothing but a bicycle, eighty-two cents in her pocket, and her Brownie camera hanging from her wrist, Victoria sneaks off to Marquette Park alone to protect her father Tony, a police officer who is patrolling the crowds.
What begins as a small adventure and a quest to find her father and make sure he is safe turns into something far more dangerous. As the day goes on and the conflict at the park reaches a fever pitch Victoria realizes she must use her courage and ingenuity if she wants to keep herself and her family members out of harm’s way.

Sara Paretsky
Hailed by P.D. James as "the most remarkable" of modern crime writers, SARA PARETSKY is the New York Times-bestselling author of nineteen previous novels, including the renowned V.I. Warshawski series. She is one of only four living writers – alongside John Le Carré, Sue Grafton, and Lawrence Block – to have received both the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the Cartier Diamond Dagger from the Crime Writers' Association of Great Britain. She lives in Chicago with her husband.
Before there was Lisbeth Salander, before there was Stephanie Plum, there was V.I. WARSHAWSKI. She took the mystery world by storm in 1982 with her first appearance in Indemnity Only. A gifted private eye with the grit and smarts to tackle the mean streets, V.I. transformed a genre in which women were typically either vamps or victims. As a "courageous, sexually liberated female investigator," she "has a humility, a humanity, and a need for human relationships which the male hard-boilers lack" (P.D. James). She lives in Chicago with her dog.

This short story that precludes the first novel and has V.I. Warshawski as a young girl. It is 1966, hot summer in Chicago where V.I finds out that something that she needs to warn her father about. He is a cop and is at the park where Dr.Martin Luther King is. Along the way she gets kidnapped and stuck in the trunk of a car. Using the wits she has at her young age, she finds away to get out of the situation.

Since there are so many different novels to this series, it is nice to kind of get an idea as to how V.I got into the private investigation business. Plus I could definitely relate to the era as I was a teenager in 1966 and remember the riots well, except I was in Milwaukee. Plus the Wildcat in the title refers to the car of the same name of which I had one in the 70's. Even though I have only read a few of these novels, like I said it is interesting to find out a bit about a person as a child.

Blood & Thorne By Lorel Clayton Book Blitz!

Blood & Thorne
By Lorel Clayton
Genre: Fantasy/Mystery/Romance

Eva Thorne thought facing a werewolf, betrayal, and the army of Death was bad. She learns there are all new kinds of evil—and more enemies, as well as allies, than she ever imagined. All of them have an agenda, and all of them want the one thing she needs to defeat the Dead God and save her world from annihilation. Can she claim the First Soul before they do?
The bad guys all want her dead. Fortunately, some want the First Soul more, and they need her to get it. They hope it will make them a god. She wants it for her own reasons. It summoned the God of Death, and it can send Him back to the Void before His armies ‘cleanse’ everything she’s ever known from existence. The last strongholds of humanity have fallen. Only the Three Kingdoms of Avian, Dwarf and Elf still stand. Eva is running out of time, because even that alliance is crumbling, and the Elf King, Fharen, is hatching a desperate plan of his own to win the war, one that sacrifices everyone Eva cares about.
Eva doesn’t want to be the femme fatale or Death’s bride, and she may be the worst pet detective ever, but surely, she can find a missing relic? The First Soul is evil, and like attracts like. Gods and monsters have sought it for centuries. She has one advantage – no one does evil quite like a Thorne.

Lorel and Clayton were teen sweethearts, brought together by a fierce love of books (and hormones). Despite being married for almost 30 years, they are still madly in love and still writing. As writing partners, they meld logic, creativity, and genres. Fantasy, science-fiction, mystery, horror, steampunk, thriller, romance, classics ... they read them all, and if they can mix them they will!

Still reading? Want to know more?
Lorel has a PhD in molecular biology and Once Upon a Time did cancer research before turning to the dark side (aka marketing), but she uses her powers for good, helping raise funds for charity. She loves books, movies and animals, and would gladly spend all day with a cat on her lap and the wind in her hair (Conan reference there), while tapping out a story on her keyboard. Or maybe a movie script. With coffee of course. And lots of chocolate!
Clayton is an artist and has recently tackled digital painting, mostly because there’s a hyperactive six-year-old boy running around the house (their gorgeous son, in case you were wondering if that’s normal). Clayton is severely dyslexic but loves books and storytelling. He adds vast imagination and a discerning ear for effective prose to their creative collaboration, not to mention the book cover art.
Born and raised in the western United States, they traveled to Sydney, Australia in 1997 and never left, finding the sunshine and beaches of “Oz” too irresistible. Look them up if ever you're Down Under!
