Snippet #1:
As I made my way to my room, my mind was like the giant pirate ship that swung back and forward at the showground, smashing through one emotion after another.
Somehow I made it, and before my brain shattered like a smashed mirror, I dialed my best friend, Lolita.
“Hey babe, what’s up?”
I blurted it out, everything from the intense unspoken sexual tension to the mind-blowing orgasm with the fireman.
“Jesus Christ, Jane!”
I knew it. I’d crossed that imaginary boundary that put me in the fucking stupid category. A tidal wave of heat rose up, and I started to hyperventilate. Tears stung my eyes, and I feared I was about to vomit.
“I’m so jealous.”
My brain snapped back to reality. “What?”
“That’s another thing you’ve done that I haven’t.”
“What?” I said.
“What, what?”
I scrunched up my face as I tried to understand what she was saying.
“Oh god,” she huffed. “Don’t tell me you’re second guessing what happened?”
“Ummm . . .”
“Jesus. So let me guess what’s going through your brain. You had a mind-blowing orgasm with a fireman in a fucking elevator, for God’s sake, and you think that’s bad.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Are you kidding me? You just did the top three things most women only dream of, all in one go. A fireman. Holy shit. In the elevator. Mind-blowing orgasm in twenty seconds flat. And he tore your knickers off. Jesus, I’m going to come in my pants just thinking of it.”
“Lolly,” I said half laughing, half shocked by her honesty.
“Shit, Jane, I’ve gotta go find Cal and fuck his brains out. Bye.”
The phone clicked and I stared at the screen, hardly able to believe my best friend had just hung up on me.
Snippet #2:
Finn still stood halfway between the front door and me. I clutched a handful of my skirt and lifted my dress up over my head, careful not to remove my blond wig with it. But as I watched Finn’s hungry eyes travelled from my half-clad body to over my shoulder, I sensed a change in the room and turned.
My blood drained in a flash.
A woman, a beautiful young woman, strolled from the bathroom toward the bed. I snapped my arms over my breasts in a feeble attempt to cover myself. She was wearing sky blue French knickers. Just French knickers. She walked with a bold confidence, and her perky breasts moved very little as she sashayed across the carpet.
“I’m sorry, I thought . . .” I grappled with my costume, trying to work out top from bottom.
“No need to be sorry.” She flicked her long amber hair over her shoulder. “I hear you like to watch.” Her voice was a seductive melody.

She heaved a sigh. “Very well, then. What else can we do?”
“Stay out of their business?”
She smacked his arm with her fan. “Don’t be a wet blanket. This is just what they both need. Think of how devious and clever we’ll have to be to make them each realize that the other is interested.”
He took her by the shoulders and turned her toward him. “What if they aren’t? What if my mother believes your papa is in love with her, so she reciprocates out of kindness or curiosity? He might feel obligated, as a gentleman, to propose despite his true feelings.”
It was the longest sentence he’d uttered since he’d been home. This part of the venture was already succeeding. She wanted to touch his cheek as she often had when they were children, but that seemed inappropriate now that he was so tall and dignified.
She huffed. “He does have feelings for her. Look at the way they always sit near each other and how they seem brighter in each other’s company. He always dances with her first, and usually the supper dance as well.”
Evan glanced back and considered.
Rowena continued, “Papa is reluctant to explore his feelings for her, and perhaps hesitant to press your mother in case she isn’t ready to consider a new relationship. Some mourn their whole lives; he may fear insufficient time has passed for her to move on.”
A shadowy pain crossed Evan’s face as he regarded the couple in question, standing alone now and conversing like the dearest of friends. They both laughed, and his mother waggled her closed fan at him as if to punctuate a point.

 My Review
I usually don't care for fragrances that have rose in them but this one is very interesting. While on a trip to Ireland, I purchase a couple different fragrances. The Rose Eau de Toilette Spray for Women by Mercedes-Benz reminds me a lot of those. A nice light summery smell that lasts a long time. I really love it! I absolutely love the bottle too!

I downshifted the Jeep. We ran through the cloud of exploding dirt clods and continued toward the dry lakebed Alicia had told me about. In the distance, I could see the opening of the canyon. I also could hear another missile being fired, but this time it was a lot closer and nearly ripped the front of the Jeep off, if I hadn’t instinctively yanked the wheel to the right and skimmed the fenders off the west wall of the ravine.

I looked over at Alicia and saw a slight trickle of blood escaping from a small wound on her forehead but couldn’t make out the words she was yelling. I was stone deaf at that moment.

Daylight broke in on us like a waterfall as the Jeep shot out of the canyon and sped across the dry lakebed. My hands were trembling on the steering wheel and my concentration was nearly shot as I heard the roar from above getting closer. I started to zig-zag across the bed of the dry lake, trying to make us a harder I was looking at the high walls around us as the Jeep drove through the ravine. “We’re sitting targets here.”

I wasn’t psychic but it was a pretty good guess since Alicia screamed, and I heard the unmistakable sound of a rocket being fired from behind us. A good half-ton of mountain blew skyward thirty yards in front of us.

My hearing was still off but the loud explosion beside me crashed into my eardrums. I turned and saw Alicia kneeling on the seat, shooting the Glock at the approaching Apache. This is really starting to get dangerous.

Former street cop, training officer and member of SWAT John Beyer has been writing most of his life. He’s traveled to at least 23 countries (and was actually shot in the head in Spain in 2000 during a march between Neo Nazis and Communists two days after running with the bulls in Pamplona). He was caught in a hurricane off the coast of east Baja (Bahia de los Angeles) while kayaking and lived to tell about it. Essentially, it’s hard to tell where experience leaves off and fiction takes over. You’ll want to read his books.
