Half-Broke Heart By Tarina Deaton Book Blitz!

Half-Broke Heart
By Tarina Deaton

Blurb:

Denise Reynolds is used to putting up a good front to show the world a strong, capable woman, but keeps a lot of things buried deep.

Chris Nolton is everything she learned the hard way to avoid — a sexy alpha-male who could charm her out of her pants and work his way into her heart. If history has taught her anything, it’s a deadly combination, but he manages to dig up emotions and longing she’s tried to bury for years.

He says all the right things and pushes her boundaries in all the right ways. Letting her guard down is difficult, especially since believing all the right things in the past led to unimaginable consequences.

Being content with her life may no longer be an option, but risking her heart may bring her to her knees.

Excerpt #1:
She angled her chin down and tilted her head forward, breaking the seal of their mouths.
He rested his forehead against hers, his warm, harsh breath fanning across her face and drying the moisture on her lips.
Watching his chest rise and fall, she fought to gather her thoughts. She’d lied to Bree when she told her to do everything she would do because she wasn’t going to do it.
Not here. Not now.
Unclenching her fingers from the grip they had on Chris’s shoulders, she pulled her head back.
“I need to go,” she said.
“You sure?” He still hadn’t released her.
“Yeah. I—Sprocket’s still in the car.” Shit. She’d forgotten about her dog. She’d never forgotten about Sprocket or been in a situation where she failed to notice her absence. Not since she’d gotten her.
“We can bring her in.”
The possibility of where tonight could lead flitted through her mind. In seconds, she assessed the possible courses of action and discarded each one. No matter the outcome, sex led to emotions and emotions led to nothing but trouble. She wasn’t going to take that chance. Not again.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Are you worried about Jase and Bree?”
“No.” She shook her head. “It’s complicated.”
“Isn’t it always?”
She smiled. “I think it’s probably best if I go home tonight.”
His hands ran down her back and slid from her waist before he took a small step back. “This wasn’t the plan when I invited you in.” He grabbed his shirt from the floor and pulled it over his head.
“I kind of figured when you almost fell on your head.”
He smirked. “Probably not my finest moment.”
“It was definitely the most entertaining thing I’ve seen in a while.” She felt him close behind as she walked to the door. Her heart still pounded in her chest.
Reaching around her, he grabbed the door knob, surrounding her once again. “Denise.”
She looked over her shoulder, afraid if she turned the whole way around she’d lose her will power and climb him like a tree.
“Thanks for the ride.” He kissed her cheek, close to her lips, his bottom lip teasing the corner of her mouth.
She ignored the whoosh of sensation that traveled the length of her body. “You’re welcome.”
He opened the door for her and stood in the threshold while she walked to her SUV, doing her best to ignore the heavy weight of his gaze. She let Sprocket out of the cargo area and into the backseat.
Getting in, she finally looked at Chris. Wide-legged stance, shoulders relaxed, hands in his pockets. Even just standing perfectly still, a slight smirk on his face, he had a bad-ass aura.
F*ck, she was an idiot. The problem was, she didn’t know if it was because she should’ve stayed or because she never should have agreed to sit in that damn chair to begin with.
Sprocket pushed her muzzle against her neck. “I know.” She scratched her behind the ear and started the car. “Mommy’s making bad decisions again.”

WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE YOU
by Allyson Charles
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Pub Date: May 9, 2017

Disorder In The Court . . .
Connie Wilkerson has worked her butt off to go from heartbroken paralegal with a drinking problem to becoming Pineville, Michigan’s fiercest new lawyer. But she’s still short on luck. Exhibit A: her very first case is against bad-boy contractor David Carelli.

Carelli has been a thorn in Connie’s side since high school, getting away with whatever he dreams up. He’s blond, handsome, and he dresses like a model. But everyone in town knows he cuts corners. Just the way he looks at her really gets Connie’s goat. She’s going to get him into chambers and settle the smug right out of him.

There’s just one problem. Exhibit B: Their supposedly hostile negotiations are turning hot instead. Now the jury is out on whether a second chance is recommended . . .

Allyson Charles lives in Northern California. She’s the author of the “Pineville Romance” series, small-town, contemporary romances published by Lyrical Press. A former attorney, she happily ditched those suits and now works in her pajamas writing about men’s briefs instead of legal briefs. When she’s not writing, she’s probably engaged in one of her favorite hobbies: napping, eating, or martial arts (That last one almost makes up for the first two, right?). One of Allyson’s greatest disappointments is living in a state that doesn’t have any Cracker Barrels in it.

“I wanted to take it slow.” Ryan was breathless as he brought her down onto her bed. “To show you that you’re worth waiting for. That I’m sincere.”
“I am worth waiting for, but I don’t want to wait. I want everything you’re offering, and I’m tired of living in fear, frightened that all good things will come to an end.”
“I promise you, this isn’t ending.” He swept a strand of hair from her face in a way so caring it strummed every blue chord in her heart. “I’ve grown so attached to you and your sons that I want us to be family. I don’t usually feel this way about anyone. I was always separate, in a shell, different, and no one other than my mother understood me until I met you.”
The way he spoke, so confident and sincere, tugged at her heart. He was man enough to let her know how much he cared about his mother. If Drew could someday speak of her in such endearing terms, she would know beyond a doubt that she had done everything right.
“I want to know all about you and understand all your quirks. It’s all about accommodating and accepting those we love,” she said, wondering what issues he had other than his aversion to being touched after sex. She could deal with that as long as she knew he wasn’t shutting her out emotionally.
“Good, the same goes for you.” He touched her lightly, skimming the tiny hairs on her skin. “You can tell me anything and everything, and I will consider it and never judge you.”
It was time for her to stand up to Andrew and make sure he never hurt anyone again.
“We have to go to the police station first,” Jamie explained to Ben. “We need to tell the police everything that happened, and then, after they’re finished, we’ll go see Ryan. Meantime, I want you all to pray for him.”
Drew put his little hands together and bent his head, murmuring jibberish in his own special language, while Ben squeezed out a prayer.
Somberly, she allowed the police to escort her into a squad car, and they took the long ride to the station.
She was sure the horror would hit her later, but for now, she had to file a restraining order and make sure Andrew would never bother them again.
Jamie, speaking about her autistic son, Drew.
“My greatest hope is that someday, Drew could find the love you have in your heart, and I do believe he has it. He said he went to look for you last night. He wanted to give you a fish. Do you know what it means?”
He could only nod and blink. Blink back the wetness welling from his eyes.
“It means he loves you, Ryan. And I know he feels it, maybe not exactly the same, but it’s there because he cares. Just like you care. Just like you’ve shown me each and every minute we’re together.” She caressed his face and nodded, assessing him with her eyes. “It’s a privilege for me, an honor for me to have your love. And in return, I have a song I want to dedicate to you. It’ll tell you how I feel about you.”
“Okay …” His heartbeat had slowed, and the lingering effects of the almost-meltdown frayed at the edges, dissipating. Maybe it was all going to be okay. Jamie believed him. She believed him whereas his own mother doubted him. But Jamie was right. He loved his mother and his father. He loved, because he cared.
The thought made him want to jump up and click his heels. To reach up to the heavens and hug all the vastness of space. To laugh and dance and scream.
“You love me, Jamie, even though I’m different.” He didn’t realize he’d said it out loud until she put a finger onto his lips.
