I manage to make my way over to Vidal’s still form as his chest rises and falls with labored breaths. Blood soaks through his shirt, coating him from the wound, and a puddle of blood grows beneath him.
As I pull up to him, I realize that he’s still conscious. His eyes roam over me, taking in my green reptilian skin, before he blinks painfully.
“F…orney?” he grunts. “What…the fuck…was that?”
And he blissfully passes out. I have the presence of mind to camouflage myself enough to appear human again as I hold him to me and teleport directly to the hospital. I whirl on the first bewildered person I see as I shout, “Someone help me! Officer down!”

FUN FACTS
1)      Diomere’s Exile started out as a middle grade fantasy novel titled Diomere’s Prince.
2)      Prince Reis was originally the main character of Diomere’s Exile, which is when my critique group noticed that the main male characters from every book I’d written started with an ‘R’. Though that isn’t the case any longer, I used that little quirk to come up with the name of my street team, Sabrina’s R’my.
3)      There are two worlds in The Gate Keeper Chronicles, the non-magic world of Saimond and the magic world of Mondami. They are connected by 5 gates that were closed hundreds of years before the start of Diomere’s Exile. These books are about the coming of the next Gate Keepers who will open the two worlds back up to each other.
4)      The Gate Keeper Chronicles, of which Diomere’s Exile is the first, follows the stories of 5 sisters as they meet their soulmates and take their places as the returned Gate Keepers.
5)      My books often showcase the close bonds between siblings because I’m very close to my sister and brothers. Besides The Gate Keeper Chronicles, I’m also working on a contemporary romance series based on a group of siblings in a rock band whose tight bond is inspired by my own with my sister and brothers.
6)      I talk in my sleep when I don’t write enough. My husband can always tell when I’ve been slacking off and encourages me to be more disciplined at those times so he can get some sleep.
7)      I started writing at the age of 28 after reading Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn Trilogy. I wanted to write something that gave someone the sense of amazement and satisfaction I felt upon reading the last page. I didn’t really think someone as ordinary as me could write anything that special, but I wanted to. Then I met a friend who was writing a book. She was an mom and wife just like me. That was the moment when I realized authors are ordinary people too.
8)      Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite fantasy stories of all time. And Tim Burton’s adaptation is my favorite of all the movies done.
9)      I listen to rock music while I write. Halestorm, Shinedown, Hinder(pre-Austin Winkler leaving*sigh*), Staind, Seether, and Highly Suspect being only a few of my favorite bands.

10)  And for something completely non-writing related: I love dipping McDonald’s French fries in soft serve ice cream. YUM!

CHELSEA’S HEART TRIPPED at the sight of the bright yellow Do Not Cross police barricade tape and blue-and-white flashing lights. Peering through her windshield, she couldn’t tell for certain this far down Willowbrook Avenue, but it looked as if all the activity was in front of the Sinclair Art Gallery.

 It was too early for any of her colleagues to be at work. Whatever was going on, at least none of them would be hurt…or worse.

Elegant wasn’t a word she usually associated with herself nor, frankly, was it something she normally strived for. But tonight? She thought she’d hit the mark.

 It was important to her to set the right tone. Not just because she’d put so much personal effort into the event, but because of her goal to be the next curator. She wanted to ensure that Mrs. Sinclair found absolutely no fault with the evening…or her.
"Kate James is excellent at writing gentle, sweet romances. Her books are so easy to settle into. This particular story brought in an element of mystery with an unsolved crime and some strange things happening. I enjoyed that aspect of it even though the story kept a pretty sedate pace. . . . you cannot go wrong picking up any book by Kate James. Especially if you love a good, sweet, clean romance."
“I hope I’m not underdressed,” he said.

 Chelsea felt the heat rise to her cheeks. She obviously hadn’t been as subtle in her perusal of him as she’d hoped. “Oh, no, you look perfectly fine.” Now she could feel her cheeks burn even more. “What I meant is your attire is fine. Black tie is optional. Are you here for professional or personal reasons?” she rushed on, wanting to change the subject.

 “A bit of both.”
"I liked how they worked together and tried to catch the bad guys. I was sure that I knew who was guilty, but the author kept me reading. The ending was good, and I would like to read more about these characters."
“Help me understand what, exactly, this painting is supposed to represent.” The deep voice, with a touch of humor, had Chelsea glancing over her shoulder.

 Her courteous reply caught in her throat as she found herself staring into familiar bold blue eyes. “Detective Eldridge, I didn’t know you had an interest in art.”
"The word I'm going to use to describe this story overall is: gentle. The mystery is gentle, without any heart-pounding drama; the romance is gentle--sweet, but not overly dynamic chemistry and drama; the characters are gentle--the kind you want for neighbors. This is a perfect read to escape and enjoy your time spent in small town Camden Falls and it's exactly the kind of book that I was in the mood for."

 THE FIRST THING Sam noticed when Chelsea walked out of the back was that she looked…taller. He slid his gaze down and saw the shoes. Unless he was mistaken, they were the same shoes she’d worn the night of the exhibit, but they worked even better with the skirt she wore today.

Why do we call mixed alcohol drinks “cocktails”? How do they get their exotic names: names like the Singapore Sling, Screw Driver, the Alamagoozlum, the Angel’s Kiss, the Hanky Panky, the Harvey Wallbanger, Sex On The Beach, the Monkey Gland, the Brass Monkey, the Margarita, the Japalac, the Lion’s Tail, and many, many more? Who makes up these names, where are they invented, why, and how do you make them? These questions will be answered in “What’s Your Poison?” by exploring the incidents, people, and places that prompted the creation of these exotic concoctions.


Beating the System

It’s been said that gambling is a tax on the dumb; that may be overly harsh, but the fact is, most gambling venues are designed to guarantee you lose. It doesn’t matter if it’s horseracing, lotteries, casinos, or the annual state fair. As soon as you plunk down your dollar you’re a loser. Those milk bottles at the bottom of the pyramid you’re trying to knock down are filled with lead, and that basketball net that looks so close you can’t miss, is actually oval not round, and barely big enough for a ball to pass through. 
Most people like to take a chance every once in a while; maybe they’ll get lucky. It’s a kick, a lark: an afternoon’s entertainment. They know when to walk away… others don’t… some can’t. For them it’s a drug, a search for an unattainable high. Deep down they don’t even want to win. It’s sad. It’s pathetic is what it is.

You see these sorry souls at the track, at the casinos, or anywhere there’s a game of chance. They’ll bet on horses, dogs, camels’… even killer roosters. It’s nuts I know, but their addicts, they’ll bet on people, and that’s the worst bet of all. Gambling is for suckers; that’s why gamblers don’t gamble, they fix the game, and even then, it doesn’t always work.

Horse racing is advertised as the sport of kings. Sure, if that’s what you want to believe. I was a jockey, it was my job, but I made my living as a fixer. You want to know what really goes on behind the scenes. You want to know what horse racing is really all about. Then come a little closer, cause I got a story for you.
