The Rock ‘N’ Roll. ‘N’ That… by Steven J. Gill @HeresGilly #ROCKNROLLNTHAT

The Rock ‘N’ Roll. ‘N’ That…
by Steven J. Gill
Summary:
“Rock ‘n’ roll is a nuclear blast of reality in a mundane world where no-one is allowed to be magnificent.” The former manager of The Runaways said that. The mad bastard. And Johnny Harrison swore by it. He had to. Almost forty, fully paid up member of the rat race and bored sh*tless. He had to believe in something. Then something happened. Something magnificent. A once in a lifetime band dropped out of the sky and right into his lap. A band unaware of just how great they could be. A band that had no idea what was about to hit them. A band that needed someone to light the fuse. That someone was Johnny Harrison and the truth was he needed them so much more. They were his ticket out. That’s how it is with THE ROCK ‘N’ THE ROLL. ‘N’ THAT. Buy your ticket and take the ride.

Author Information
Steven J. Gill is from  Manchester, living just south of the city centre.

This is his first book. Previously, his writing work was limited to music and football fanzines.

He has had quite the varied career, ranging from finance, delivering enterprise days to schools, undertaker and. driver.

A self-confessed cats, coats and Beatles obsessive.

Very much in right time and right place in the early 80’s and 90’s and duly devoured all that the Manchester music scene had to offer. Talked a lot of nonsense and managed  a couple of bands that never unite made it big. Sings like a donkey braying into a bucket but a very good musical ear would be a fitting epitaph...

Having had somewhat of a literary epiphany at the inaugural Festival No.6 in North Wales, Steven decided it was time to set to and get writing. ‘The Rock ‘n’ The Roll. ‘ N” That...’  is the fruit of these labours.”

As some Scouse pop genius once opined, “it took me years to write, so won’t you take a look...”

Valentine Countdown Blitz Day 2!

Arabella Sheraton grew up on a diet of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, and many other writers of that period. From Jane Austen to Georgette Heyer, Arabella has found both enjoyment and inspiration in sparkling, witty Regency novels. She also loves history and generally finds the past more fascinating than the future. Arabella wrote her first Regency romance to entertain her aged mom who loved the genre. Arabella is honoured to share the adventures of her heroes and heroines with readers.

In this charming traditional Regency romance novella, Patience Cherwell is resigned to a life of spinsterhood. Therefore, when her young friend, the lovely Lorna Hartley, comes to stay for a London season, she decides the eligible, handsome Lord Blackwood is the perfect match for Lorna. Granted, Lord Blackwood, at forty, is much older than the vivacious 20-year-old Lorna, but Patience is determined to help her young friend make a good match. So why isn’t she happy when his lordship and Lorna seem to like each other’s company? The problem is that Patience is already madly in love with his lordship!

An unexpected invitation arrives for Lorna and Patience to attend Lord Blackwood’s Valentine Ball. This is the perfect moment for him to propose to Lorna. Mysteriously, a corsage arrives from an anonymous admirer. Who is it for? And what will be the outcome for the wearer at Lord Blackwood’s Valentine Ball?

This novella is the prequel to The Lady’s Revenge.

Snippet:

Her companion did not make conversation, and Patience was content to glide across the dance floor, clasped in his arms. She truly did feel as if she were floating, but something else was happening. The man’s nearness, the scent of his cologne, his voice when he had spoken all began to coalesce in her mind. She glanced up at his face, so close to hers. His chin! There was no mistaking the cleft. It could not be Lord Blackwood. It should not be Lord Blackwood. It must be someone who closely resembled him. But what if it were? This was a terrible mistake! How had he chosen her for the Valentine waltz instead of Lorna? Lorna twirled past in a cloud of pink, her head thrown back as she laughed at something her partner said. The man she was dancing with had fair hair! She had seen Lorna earlier with the same man. Everyone had blundered tonight. Perhaps the posies had been mixed up. Her heart began to thud. Soon the dance would end, and what was she to say to him? He probably expected to see someone else in her place.

Street Cat Blues by Alison O'Leary Blog Tour! @alisonoleary81 @rararesources

Street Cat Blues
After spending several months banged up in Sunny Banks rescue centre, Aubrey, a large tabby cat, has finally found his forever home with Molly and Jeremy Goodman and life is looking good.
However, all that changes when a serial killer begins to target elderly victims in the neighbourhood. Aubrey wasn’t particularly upset by the death of some of the previous victims, including Miss Jenkins whom Aubrey recalls as a vinegar-lipped bitch of an old woman who enjoyed throwing stones at cats, but Mr Telling was different. Mr Telling was a mate…

Read an Extract
This extract is taken from the beginning of Chapter Four, in which Aubrey slips through the cat flap in Mr. Telling’s house to see if he can find out anything about how he died. All was going well until he heard the faint clicking of the back door opening …
Aubrey strained his ears to hear what was going on and felt his heart start to thump against his ribs. He’d only just got behind the curtain in time. The sill was narrow and there was barely room to move. He wouldn’t be able to keep still for too long, he knew. Apart from anything else, a layer of thin dust coated the lining of the curtains and it was already causing a tickle at the back of his throat. This was a cat’s worst nightmare, being cornered somewhere with no way of escape. It was right up there with being stuck in a room with a tin of cat food and nobody to open it.  He swallowed hard. Whatever happened, he daren’t make a noise. Whoever was in the house would find him and haul him out. Even if it was someone who didn’t hate cats, they might think that he was a stray and decide to rescue him. Some cat lovers were almost as bad as cat haters with their do-gooding. It would be like it had been after Raj had died, before he knew where he was, he’d be banged up in the rescue centre again.

He squeezed his eyes shut and tried not to panic. There was nothing on him to say where he lived. What if he got taken back to Sunny Banks Rescue Centre? Molly and Jeremy would think that he had just disappeared, cats often did, and there would be nothing that he could do about it. It wouldn’t be like he could get a message to them or anything. And even if he got chosen again, he might not be so lucky in his new owners the next time. A cat in a rescue centre is at the mercy of whoever decides to pick it. There was nothing to stop any psycho turning up and pretending to be a cat lover and that was that. Robert was your mother’s brother. Dead as a door knocker. Or worse.

I was born in London and spent my teenaged years in Hertfordshire where I spent large amounts of time reading Agatha Christie novels and avoiding school. Failing to gain any qualifications in Science whatsoever, the dream of being a forensic scientist crashed and burned when a careers teacher suggested that I might like to work in a shop. Later studying Law, I decided to teach rather than go into practice and have spent many years working as a college lecturer teaching mainly Criminal Law to adults and young people.
I live on the south coast with my husband John and cat Archie. When not writing I enjoy crosswords, walking by the sea and drinking wine. Not necessarily in that order.

A Class Apart and A Class Entwined by Susie Murphy Book Tour and Review!

'A beautifully written historical novel with characters who linger long after the last page is turned.' - Hazel Gaynor, New York Times bestselling author of The Girl Who Came Home.

It’s 1828, and Ireland is in turmoil as Irish tenants protest against their upper-class English landlords.

Nineteen-year-old Bridget Muldowney is thrilled to return to the estate in Carlow she’ll inherit when she comes of age. But since she left for Dublin seven years earlier, the tomboy has become a refined young lady, engaged to be married to a dashing English gentleman.

Cormac McGovern, now a stable hand on the estate, has missed his childhood friend. He and Bridget had once been thick as thieves, running wild around the countryside together.

When Bridget and Cormac meet again their friendship begins to rekindle, but it’s different now that they are adults. Bridget’s overbearing mother, determined to enforce the employer-servant boundaries, conspires with Bridget’s fiancé to keep the pair apart.

With the odds stacked against them, can Bridget and Cormac’s childhood attachment blossom into something more?

Trapped in a loveless marriage far from home, Bridget does what she can to fill her lonely days. She throws herself into charitable work, but her cherished daughter, Emily, is her only true source of happiness.

Meanwhile, Cormac's own life unravels and he finds himself doing unspeakable things just to survive.

Neither of them dream they will ever meet again, but fate brings them back together in the most unexpected of ways.

Can Bridget rediscover her love for the man Cormac has become? And how will Cormac react when he learns Bridget’s secret?

A Class Entwined is the second book in Susie Murphy’s A Matter of Class series.

Valentine Countdown Blitz Day 1!

Kelly Nelson graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree. She worked in public accounting for four years before starting a horse-boarding business so she could be more involved in raising her family. As an avid book lover, she later decided to pursue a career in writing. Her published works include The Keeper’s Saga, a young adult fiction series, Love’s Deception, an LDS romance, and The Woman with No Name. Her newest novel was selected as a finalist in the romance category for the 2018 writing contest of the Pacific Northwest Writer's Association. She resides Cornelius, Oregon with her husband, four children, and a herd of horses.

Losing her memory might lead to finding happily ever after.

Sworn bachelor Colton Murdock gets more than he bargained for on the elk hunt when he finds an injured woman in Utah’s high country. She must have a history, but she wakes up to towering pines and the clap of a thunderstorm with no recollection of her name or how she came to be there. Colt brings her to the safety of his camp, trying to ignore the first stirrings of his heart since the tragic death of his fiancée six years ago.

The young woman can’t help falling for her ruggedly handsome rescuer, who calls her Skye for her blue eyes. But her life goes into a tailspin when she is recognized as Lily Vanasche, fiancée of a popular TV news anchorman, and Colt is arrested for a series of crimes—including her abduction. After the real kidnapper leaves a death threat in Lily’s ransacked house, the clock starts ticking. Can she remember her past before it catches up with her?

Snippet:

Another officer began searching Colt for weapons. “We’re taking you down to the station for questioning.” The cop’s hands continued roving. Down one leg and then the other. The hunting knife was pulled off Colt’s belt and his wallet and keys were removed from his pockets.
With four pistols trained on his chest and no indication that the officers would change their minds, Colt started to worry. “Why? What’s going on? I haven’t done anything wrong.”

The cop who had taken Colt’s keys and wallet piped up. “Then you’ve got nothing to worry about. But you just showed up in town with the missing victim, and you match the description of the suspect, so for now—” The officer paused, looking through the wallet. “Mr. Murdock, you’re under arrest for the armed robbery of the One National Bank, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated kidnapping of Lily Vanasche, and the attempted first-degree murder of a bank employee.”

Opera by Mari.Reiza
 Literary / Romance

About the Book:

A wealthy arts patron receives a wrongly delivered letter at her secret address in Kensington. Her therapist recognises the intended recipient immediately, leading her into the hands of a defeated composer she will, together with her sweetest accomplice, help back into music. A passionate rendition of human resilience.

About the Setting

There are three main settings. First, Ivanka's secret Kensington flat where she weekly receives her massage therapist Fer. She has instructed her doctor to send any correspondence to this address, helping her channel misery away from her everyday life. Second, a ruinous local mansion where Maria has caged himself, confined to the largest of its rooms, a boundless nest with a floor of sand and a central shiny black grand piano. Finally, a sophisticated high-class London Mexican restaurant resembling a theatre set where guests can pick a character and live only the fun parts. Here Ivanka regularly meets and plots with playfellow and long-life confidant Igor.

Meet Ivanka

Ivanka is a beautiful young woman born in Saint Petersburg, wedded to rich banker Alexey. But their marriage has only given birth to a story of misuse of wealth and human limitation. He doesn’t like losers. Neither does she. She couldn’t stomach grievers orbiting around them if her sorry news became public. It’s impossible to be naturally kind or forgiving with her pain, but in Maria she has seen something precious. She wants to bring it out in him though not the way Alexey did in her...  After all, was she not once the most wonderful music promoter, a genius in seeking talent?

Meet Fer

Fer is slim as a river reed, looks so innocent-pretty despite his cut-rate-dental teeth and wobbly eyes always alert to never miss anything, so gay in his hideous rainbow shirt. He has been hired by Ivanka for his osteopathy services alone, yet  has from day one committed himself to deliver much more, channeling a constant flow of psychic vigour to every corner of her system in peril. He's drawn to her talk of Igor even if he doesn't understand who he is. He's full of childish excitement about Maria he recognizes as a musician in a popular band when he was growing up in Italy. Very few people seem to afford Fer a chance other than for what they want for themselves, but he knows Ivanka is his chance, that something in her will make things happen for him.

Meet Maria

A blue-eyed Viking. He looks like a haunted criminal under a witness protection program, a man who would slaughter, skin and bake your family dog, a man you don’t want to be telling you what he has down on his life tally... and what’s with all his leather neck chains and charms unable to hide his prominent Adam’s apple? The sight of him almost immediately wins Ivanka over. His mind has remained full of an old flame, of the grief of living with someone who’s not there, who had once sworn she didn’t mind him not being like other people and had him dream of fathering mermaids, of living under a waterfall. How could he ever get over that?

Meet Igor

Ivanka's prince. She finds him irresistible in a motherly way. She always did, since she was fourteen and he was a little boy and they were constantly bonding over one activity or another she set out for him in Moscow, when she first arrived from Saint Petersburg. Igor's a son of a famous actress and director, has tried and failed to follow in his father's steps. And he's wanted back in Moscow by his hysterically resentful, erotically hyper-charged Cuban ex-lover (married to an old Russian princess he has duped) who has offered Igor his last opportunity to rehabilitate their shared history or else...Igor can’t go back to Moscow. He can't ‘holiday’ around sad corners of the continent indefinitely either, like a fugitive. He’s stuck in a bad situation, one that would easily call for him to open a bottle of port every night and weep over his life, which he indeed does, repeatedly. He needs to secure work in London just to be safe. He needs Ivanka. And he would do anything to have her happy; he owes her for old times’ sake...

Nicholas Young, a young orphan, sailed with James Cook in 1768 and died in Batavia over two years later. Or did he…?
