He knew he didn’t deserve her, didn’t fit in her world. But the moment he laid eyes on her, he knew she was his...
Rocco Moretti had a rough start in life. Abused by his parents and abandoned when he was six years old, he’s spent his life trying to prove his worth.

After barely getting out alive while deployed in Afghanistan, he’s settled into civilian life—for the most part. He’s convinced himself being a devoted brother, uncle, and associate at Dixon-Shaw Security is all he deserves.

Hannah Hailey has been professionally unfulfilled at her mother’s successful event planning firm for far too long.

Bullied into a relationship with a man her mother considers suitable, Hannah is miserable. Richard Hayes is an arrogant, cheating bastard she despises.

When Hannah and Rocco meet, their chemistry is undeniable, and sparks fly.

Hannah believes she doesn’t have a chance with the sexy Italian Marine, but is captivated by his seductive charm. Rocco knows Hannah is way out of his league, but is spellbound by the dark-haired temptress. He’s determined to have her at all costs.

Can they build a real future together or will pressure from Hannah’s well-to-do family tear them apart?

Convinced his friend’s death was no accident, Marty tries to summon superhero powers but merely manages to bumble along as an amateur sleuth. When Marty’s cousin shows up, she wreaks havoc with his plans and pulls him into yet another mystery.
As threats blossom, Marty doubles down now that his family’s involved. Besides, it’s poor manners to let your friend’s death go unsolved.
Can Marty figure out what happened before a killer, or his imagination, gets to him?
Chutes and Ladder is the second novel in a refreshingly modern mystery series set in Silicon Valley. If you like clever humor and wacky side characters, you’ll love this twisty mystery.

About the Author

For most of my life, I’ve been inventing stories. Some, especially when I was young, involved my sister as the villain. As my sister’s brother for her entire life, I’m highly qualified to tell the tale of this evolving, quirky sibling relationship.
My writing skills were honed in years of marketing leadership positions in Silicon Valley. While my high tech marketing roles involved crafting plenty of fiction, we called these marketing collateral, emails and ads.
The publication of my first novel, Uncle and Ants, gave me permission to claim “author” as my job. This leads to way more interesting discussions than answering “marketing.”
My family would tell you that Marty’s character isn’t much of a stretch of the imagination for me, but I proudly resemble that remark.
Like Marty, I live in Silicon Valley and can’t believe that otherwise normal people would willingly jump out of an airplane and call it fun. Unlike Marty, I have a wonderful wife and a neurotic but sweet, small dog, who is often the first to weigh in on the humor in my writing.

The American Princess by Stephanie Marie Thornton Book Spotlight!

Alice may be the president's daughter, but she's nobody's darling. As bold as her signature color Alice Blue, the gum-chewing, cigarette-smoking, poker-playing First Daughter discovers that the only way for a woman to stand out in Washington is to make waves--oceans of them. With the canny sophistication of the savviest politician on the Hill, Alice uses her celebrity to her advantage, testing the limits of her power and the seductive thrill of political entanglements.

But Washington, DC is rife with heartaches and betrayals, and when Alice falls hard for a smooth-talking congressman it will take everything this rebel has to emerge triumphant and claim her place as an American icon. As Alice soldiers through the devastation of two world wars and brazens out a cutting feud with her famous Roosevelt cousins, it's no wonder everyone in the capital refers to her as the Other Washington Monument--and Alice intends to outlast them all.

I'm a writer and high school history teacher who has been obsessed with infamous women from history since I was twelve.

My first two novels, The Secret History: A Novel of Empress Theodora and Daughter of the Gods: A Novel of Ancient Egypt reimagine the lives of two of history's forgotten women: Theodora of the Byzantine Empire and Pharaoh Hatshepsut.

My third and fourth books center around the women who stood behind the greatest conquerors the world has ever seen. The Tiger Queens is the story of Genghis Khan's wife and daughters, while The Conqueror's Wife tells of the women who both loved and hated Alexander the Great. With my love of the ancient world, I also joined the H Team to help pen a collaborative novel, Song of War: A Novel of Troy in which I put a new spin on the story of Cassandra, King Priam's cursed seer of a daughter.

An Interview with

Sayde Scarlett

How do you think technology will continue to transform our lives in the coming years?
I definitely think that the speed of travel will decrease exponentially. When my mother first moved to Dubai, the flight took thirteen hours to get there from London. Now it takes six to seven hours. I can’t wait for that journey to be two hours. Medical technology will continue to reduce suffering and heartache. It will be an overwhelming boon to human well-being. The planet will be cleaner, greener and closer together.

The book touches on freedom of speech and expression -- do you think these values are in danger?
I do think these values are in danger. Partly because those defending them don’t always defend them well and with consideration. I also think even though freedom of speech is undoubtedly a positive thing, it doesn’t excuse you from the consequences of your words. If you make valid points with care and consideration - the right type of people appreciate it. If you use your words to hurt and insult people - you have to accept that people won’t like you.

What do you think are the caveats of a world ruled by such advanced technology?
I don’t see many downsides because ever advancing technology has been an amazing thing for humanity. Sometimes the rate of change can be overwhelming for some people. The only thing that worries me is that there’ll be less incentives to build human relationships because all our other needs are so easily catered for. Relationships will always be hard but always worth putting in the extra effort.

How do you maintain a positive view about the future?
I look at the facts. There’s a site called Human Progress. I also read a lot of Steven Pinker. There’s next to no empirical evidence to suggest the world is getting worse. That’s why my novel is set in a utopian society. It’s actually odd that there is so little utopian literature when there’s no evidence the world is getting worse.

Why do you think we need to re-educate people about the Enlightenment?
I hear talking heads and politicians reference Christianity and Judeo-Christian values a lot but I don’t hear a lot about Enlightenment or enlightened values. The transformation of the Enlightenment was a game-changer. When people talk about Western values, what they’re really talking about are Enlightenment values but they’re not well informed about that period of intellectual history.

There’s a lot of internal and external struggles in “Clouds and Earth” between good and evil. Can you explain why you think this moral ambiguity is an important aspect for your characters?
I personally dislike characters who are overtly dichotomous. Every character has to have goodness and darkness inside them because every person in real life has goodness and darkness inside them. A perfect character is not only unrealistic but also undesirable. The flaws are what make a person endearing. Too much perfection is not charming.

Without giving too much away, what can fans look forward to in the next two books?

In the next two books Sandy will have to confront her past and her pain. Massi will have to take his place in the adult world and live up to his potential without getting distracted. Natalia will have to navigate her first taste of heartache.

Synopsis:
Getting dumped sucks. Getting dumped by your boyfriend days before your best friend’s wedding? It doesn’t get much worse.
Did I mention that the guy who cut me loose was country music’s number one rising star?
And my client.

I thought I was walking into a proposal. Instead, I crashed right into humiliation—dumped and fired.
The silver lining? In a restaurant, there’s plenty of wine to drown my feelings.
In strolls Tyler Nichols, the restaurant owner. He’s charming, handsome and does a good job of trying to make me feel better. A really good job. Sharing my heartbreak with a beautiful stranger is the last thing that I expected.
Turns out, Tyler Nichols is my ex’s best friend. And according to the local gossips—mainly my cousin—he’s got a mysterious past.
No worries, I’m the gal with everything going for her—great job, fabulous apartment and a glamorous life half way across the country in sunny Los Angeles—far away from my hometown and my family’s bourbon empire. I’ll be leaving after the weekend wedding festivities.
That is until my best friend, Sage, finds herself in a jam and needs my help before jetting off on her honeymoon.
So, I’m staying in Mayfield a little longer than anticipated. In just a few short weeks, I’ll march my happy ass back to the West Coast, far away from Tyler’s smoldering gaze and his panty-melting smile. And the chemistry between us that burns hotter than a hickory stump.

But the longer I’m in town, the harder it is to stay away from him. And maybe I don’t want to.
