When Harris is presented with a plea bargain that would spare him a life sentence, Steve urges his client to accept. Steve is shocked when Harris turns down the plea bargain in favor of going to trial. Steve quickly finds himself in the most difficult case of his career, in addition to all his other clients. Nevertheless, Steve grows to respect Harris and the decision he made, compelling him to work tirelessly for a not-guilty verdict for Harris.

Bodhi Reyburn returns to her hometown for a fresh start, and instead, finds herself enamored with her ex’s best friend, Will Bennet. When the past and present collide, will Bodhi fall for will, or will she always be Boone’s girl? Readers who enjoy Kate Carley and Skye Jordan, will love Boone’s Girl by Tracy Broemmer, a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, return to hometown, contemporary romance.

Blurb

When Bodhi Reyburn returns to Lake Clair to take a teaching position, the last person she expects to see is her ex’s best friend, Will Bennet, and the last thing on her mind is finding love. She needs a fresh start, which includes leaving the past—Tyson Boone—in the past and finding herself.

Bodhi Reyburn used to be Boone’s girl, reason enough for Will Bennet to stay away from her. Easy to do at first. Will’s held a small grudge against her for years for choosing Boone over him, and now that it seems obvious that she left Boone—his best friend—shouldn’t Will side with him?

What happens when the past and present collide? Will Bodhi fall for Will, or will she always be Boone’s girl?

So, he was being a dick to her. Truth be told, he would rather chuck the attitude and just talk to her. Find out what the hell happened. Had to be something terrible to break them up. It had sucked sometimes, being out with them, but not as bad as he was making it out to be. They got handsy now and then, but didn’t all kids? How many times had Will broken up a public display of affection with his students just last year? And yes, Boone had been his best friend, from the time they were ten or eleven, but he’d been just as close to Bodhi when they were in high school.
Even now, Will couldn’t say for sure which one of them had actually seen or fallen for Bodhi first, but there was no doubt Boone claimed her first. And once Will saw Boone take her hand in his and twine their fingers, that was that. Never mind the wishes and fantasies he hid from everyone, the same ones that nearly choked him sometimes.
Never mind that night their senior year when they shared a dance at prom.
Trouble was, how did he undo being a dick when it had been his lead card? If Bodhi left Boone, there was a story. Something big, and most likely, she was hurting, too. Hard to double back now and say he cared when he had been so callous earlier.
He did care.
But the past ten years had given him ample time to stew over the memories. The high school years. Their friendship. Yeah, he loved Boone like a brother. Still did, even though he hadn’t talked to the guy in years. But if Boone showed up tomorrow, Will knew they would roll on like the intervening ten years didn’t matter.
He wasn’t sure he could do it with Bodhi.
Because even though he loved Boone, even though Bodhi had been his friend all those years ago, Will had been in love with her since the first day of earth science. He and Boone sat together, and they both noticed her, whispered about how hot she was. Boone lucked out and got her for a lab partner, but the three of them quickly became buddies. Will backed off, let Boone have her when he realized she was into Boone, but those feelings didn’t go away. Ten years apart was a long time to nurse a broken heart. Apparently, not enough time or life had passed for him to have let it all go.

Midlife Shifter Unexpected by Melle Amade Book Blitz and Giveaway!

Midlife Shifter Unexpected
Melle Amade
(Cougar Creek Coven, #2)
Publication date: January 18th 2022
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Women’s Fiction

My new BFF is a witch and apparently, I’m a member of a witch’s coven. Only, I’m not a witch. Word is, I’m a wolf shifter. When I said I wanted to start over again, this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.

Being a shifter isn’t the worst thing I could imagine. It’s taken care of all the hot flashes. My body temperature now runs constantly high. I like it. Snow? Who cares? I don’t need no stinking coat anymore.

I can smell like ten times better than even when I was pregnant, and as for my vision? Glasses are SO last year. I won’t be needing those anytime soon.

But man, what about the actual shifting? That hurts like nobody’s business. They say I’ll get used to it, but they don’t know how much it hurts, because I’m the only shifter for miles around. “They” are the coven that has accepted me and given me a new family.

The threat from the cemetery is very real and the dead aren’t sleeping quietly. Our coven is the frontline on keeping the dead in their graves and for some reason, they think because I’m a wolf I should have some superpower against the dead. But I don’t.

What I have is an amazing BFF just as powerful and middle-aged as me and I know together we can face anything. At least I think we can. We survived the first half of our lives.

How hard can the second magic half be?

Author Bio:

USA Today Bestselling Author. Farm Girl. Marketing Director.

Since I was eight, I have been writing stories that capture the adventures in my head and the characters strong enough and flawed enough to have them. When I look at an empty field, I see a formidable citadel. When I meet a vulnerable old man, I greet an emeritus warrior. When I walk through city streets, I feel dimensions hiding around every turn. It has been my lifelong passion to explore these worlds that reveal the pain of loneliness, the joy or self-actualization, and the hope of magic.

I grew up in a place called Potter Valley where the Milky Way is held aloft by a circle of mountains and the central business district consists of a bait store and a saloon. At 19 I moved alone to London and spent the next ten years exploring the world, even becoming an Australian citizen, before I returned to California and found a new home in Los Angeles. My world revolves around my two wee children, storytelling, and my love of travel.

My Forever by Tiffany Patterson Book Blitz!

My Forever
Tiffany Patterson
(Townsends of Texas, #3)
Publication date: January 7th 2022
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Savannah

I was only eighteen years old when I thought I had found my happily ever after.

After the tragic death of my mother, I married the love of my life, Ace Townsend.

Yes, we were young and idealistic, but we had it all figured out. He was going to be a fighter pilot in the Air Force. I would go to medical school to become a doctor for people who couldn’t afford healthcare. People like my mother.

But, like everything else in my life, that dream fell apart when I realized Ace was better off without me.
So I left.

Sixteen years later, I’m forced to return to Harlington, Texas. Not for my sake, but to save the one person in my life who matters to me the most.

Even if it means confronting my estranged husband and abiding by his stipulation to move in with him temporarily. If that’s what it takes for him to sign the divorce papers so that I can receive my inheritance and save an innocent life, I’ll do it.

I just have to keep my heart locked away for the next six months.

That’s proving to be easier said than done.

My Forever is an interracial romance (BWWM) and is book three in the Townsends of Texas series. This book contains mature, steamy love scenes. Happily Ever After is guaranteed.

EXCERPT:

It suddenly felt as if the entire room stopped to turn and look in my direction.

Slowly, I let my gaze travel over the rest of the room. That was when I realized this wasn’t any ordinary night out at the bar. The streamers and signs congratulating Lena Clarkson on her album’s success hung in the distance.

I blinked, and Lena Clarkson herself stood before me. I knew her music well and was a big fan. Under any ordinary circumstance, I would’ve been elated to meet her.

This wasn’t an ordinary situation.

I could feel Gabriel’s eyes on me, but even his glare wasn’t what had my heart pounding and my blood pressure rising.

I could feel his brother nearby. Ace was somewhere in the room. The way the hairs on my arms and neck stood up and the zap of electricity in my stomach were my indications.

It astounded me that, even after all of these years, I could still feel him whenever we were in the same room.

I wouldn’t allow myself to look around to search for him. No matter how much I wanted to see his face.

I kept my gaze on Lena.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize this was a party.” I paused, forcing myself to remember why I was standing there in the first place.

Aiden. My subconscious whispered to me, reminding me. I blinked. “I-I just need some help.” I didn’t know why I phrased it that way. I meant to ask for a phone.

But before I could correct myself, Lena moved closer, her face taking on a concerned expression. “Hi, it’s not a problem. Are you from around here?” she asked. “What’s your name?”

I opened my mouth to answer but got interrupted.

“Savannah.” Ace’s voice pierced through the crowd and music. He pushed past his younger brother and Lena, barreling down on me. “She’s my wife.”

My breathing halted altogether. The edge in his tone was so cold it could’ve iced over a Texas summer.

He who laughs last, laughs longest.

Unless he’s dead.

When romance author Hazel Rose is dropped by her publisher, she sees herself heading down a path strewn with has-been authors. While disappointed, Hazel won’t give up without a fight—she signs up for a mystery-writing class, thinking that crime fiction will jumpstart her career.

But what’s a mystery-writing class without a mystery? So when Randy Zimmerman, an obnoxious classmate given to laughing at others’ expense, is murdered, Hazel tackles the case. Solving a real-life murder will surely lend authenticity to her creative writing.

She recruits her book group pals to help with the investigation. Trouble is, there are more suspects than they bargained for—even Hazel herself, who endured Randy’s thumbs-way-down review of her writing, had a motive.

A second body drives the stakes higher, and Hazel doubles her efforts to find who’s behind the murders, unearthing secrets that a killer would go to any lengths to keep hidden.

Will Hazel succeed? Or will this be “The End” for her?

From My Kitchen: Mushroom Barley Soup

By Hazel Rose

In Laughing Can Kill You, my husband and I enjoy a lunch of mushroom barley soup. I often boast that my recipe closely matches the famous one from Langer’s Delicatessen in Los Angeles—so closely, that one wouldn’t be able to tell them apart in a blind taste test.

I lived in Los Angeles for many years (as did Wonderful Author, my creator) and often enjoyed Langer’s mushroom barley soup. The deli remains famous for “serving the world’s best pastrami and other deli classics.”  Langer’s is included in the Los Angeles Times legendary "101 Best Restaurants in LA" list for 2021.

My recipe is adapted from Slow Cookers for Dummies. It never disappoints. It’s perfect for cold winter evenings, although I fix it year-round.

1 tbsp. vegetable oil

1 large onion, minced

3 carrots, diced

3 celery stalks, diced

½ pound small white mushrooms, stems trimmed, quartered

¼ pound shiitake mushrooms, stems trimmed, quartered

1 bay leaf

3 tbsp. minced Italian flat-leaf parsley

1 cup pearl barley

1 tsp. salt

¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper.

6 cups of beef broth

2 cups water

Spray slow cooker with cooking spray

Place onion, carrots, celery, mushrooms, bay leaf, parsley, barley, salt, and pepper in slow cooker. Pour broth and water over all and stir to combine.

Cover and cook on low for 5 to 7 hours, or until vegetable and barley are tender. Add salt to taste.

Enjoy!

***

My Tips:

The Slow Cookers for Dummies version has an additional ingredient: lean beef stew meat. If you’d like to use it, cut the meat into ½-inch cubes and add to slow cooker with the other ingredients. For enhanced flavor, brown the beef first.

Use chicken broth instead of beef broth; or make it vegan with vegetarian broth or water.

Add garlic (I add it to everything).

Add salt only at end of cooking, as needed.

The Italian flat-leaf parsley is optional. Any parsley will do, even dried (in a smaller amount).

Add worcestershire sauce and/or lemon juice.

***

Do you love mushroom barley soup? Have you had it at Langer’s? Try both versions and compare. I haven’t been to Langer’s, or even to Los Angeles, in many years, so they could have changed their recipe. Let’s hope not.

May 2022 be a happy and prosperous year for you.
