Love Tools by Isobel Reed Virtual Book Tour!

Contemporary Romance

What happens when the king of casual meets the queen of picking the wrong men?

Lily is running. From a dead-end job, a neurotic mother and all the losers she dared to date. Moving halfway across the world to Bluestone County seemed like a good idea at the time. So did reopening her estranged father’s hardware store. But now she isn’t so sure.

Small town living has its perks though. Wide-open space, clean air, and sexy cowboys. Well, one sexy cowboy. Jake. Who also just so happens to be the new bane of her existence. At least when he’s not talking, she can admire the view.

Jake is the king of casual. The love of his life has always been his ranch, and that was fine with him. He never really saw the point in long-term. But all that changes when a mouthy, blonde sasses him into oblivion. He should have known she’d be trouble as soon as he laid eyes on her. Now it’s too late. She’s all he can think about. All he has to do is convince her that he’s finally the right man.

Excerpt

Lily stared at the boarded-up windows and took a deep breath.

There was no turning back now. Pulling the keys from her handbag,

she unlocked the door and followed the creaking sound of the floorboards

into the dimly lit store.

To her surprise the shelves were still stocked and brimming with power

tools, each item covered in a layer of dust that had already started to make

its way up her nostrils.

“What the hell are you doing here Lily?” she muttered to herself as she

ran her fingers across the counter.

To get this place up and running, it was going to be more work than she

ever imagined. She just hoped the apartment upstairs was in better condition.

After exploring the shop floor, she went to find out. She followed the

beige hallway into the living room, taking a seat on the squeaky leather

sofa and looking around. The space was depressing. Habitable but

depressing, nonetheless.

How could he have lived here for so long, and it still feel so empty?

Furniture was sparse, and other than the chair she sat in, the only other

items that remained were a flatscreen TV, a scratched wooden coffee table

and a small shelving unit scattered with a few books and a couple of picture

frames.

She looked over at the kitchen adjoining the living room and noticed some

basic appliances. It felt strange to be in his space. His home. Surrounded

by his things. Was there a right way to feel?

Isobel was born and raised in London.

her hoard of contemporary romance novels, Isobel is writing.

Mine to Protect
Emily A. Myers

Publication date: December 1st 2022
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Mafia, Romance

From award-winning author, Emily A. Myers, comes a standalone, full-length Mafia Romance novel.

Alister Amato is rich, powerful, and feared by all who know the truth. He’s the Blood King, a mafia boss with a lust for blood and an infinite reach. Everything in me screams I should stay away. But when my Organized Crime Task Force is called to investigate the slaughter of a rival criminal syndicate, I know that isn’t an option. The way the men were killed is something I’ve only seen once before—eighteen years ago when my mother was murdered and I was orphaned. I don’t know how my mother wound up in the clutches of the mafia. But, after all this time, I will stop at nothing to discover the truth. Even if it means aligning myself with the dangerous, mysterious, and undeniably handsome, Blood King.

They call me King, but I am nothing but a prisoner. The world of darkness I belong to has stolen everything from me—my mother, my sister, my happiness, my freedom. Most of all, it has stolen my ability to love. If it weren’t for my sister, Sophia, I would walk away from the throne I never wanted and let New Orleans burn. But even that would not set me free. My name and my blood have placed a target on my back and cursed anyone who stands beside me to the same fate. Which is why when FBI agent Ariana Valentine weasels her way into my life and heart, I do everything I can not to fall for her. My love is a death sentence. And, after everything this world has taken from me, I won’t let it take her too. Even if it means I have to walk away from the only woman I’ve ever allowed myself to love.

STANDALONE – DUAL POV – ITALIAN MAFIA – FORBIDDEN LOVE – SLOW BURN

EXCERPT:

From Alister’s POV:

With each passing year, my family loses a member. My mother was killed when I was sixteen during a botched hit meant to take out my entire family. My father died last year, nearly twenty years after my mother. Unlike the bullet that took her from, cancer was his poison. And my sister Cara, she was taken in the night from her dorm room shortly after my father died and I came to power. The rest you already know. Except, perhaps, one thing, the most important thing. Why?

Why would someone put a hit on my family? Why would my eighteen-year-old sister be ripped from her bed, sold into sex slavery, and killed? It’s because of our blood. We are the Amatos, the gatekeepers of the criminal underworld stretching from the Texas border all the way to the Florida Keys. For the innocent, we are the only thing standing between them and full on anarchy. Though, they wouldn’t know it. For those privy to this world of darkness to which I unfortunately belong, we are royalty. And like the kings and queens of the past, we are flush with wealth and connections carefully attained by our ancestors and modern-day business deals that help keep our illegal drug trade secret. Our wealth and reputations accompanied by our unique network of connections in Mexico, the Caribbean, Chicago, and New York City make us targets of those looking to make a name for themselves among the world’s most dangerous and vile. But what was once a powerful and untouchable dynasty is now only a brother and sister desperately trying to survive.

Factory Girls by Michelle Gallen Book Review! #NetGalley @algonquinbooks @michellegallenauthor #FactoryGirls

A funny, fierce, and unforgettable read about a young woman working a summer job in a shirt factory in Northern Ireland, while tensions rise both inside and outside the factory walls.

It’s the summer of 1994, and all Maeve Murray wants are good final exam results so she can earn her ticket out of the wee Northern Irish town she has grown up in during the Troubles—away from her crowded home, the silence and sadness surrounding her sister’s death, and most of all, away from the simmering violence of  her  divided  community.  And  as  a  first  step,  Maeve’s  taken  a  summer  job  in  a  local  shirt  factory  working  alongside  Protestants  with  her  best  friends,  kind,  innocent Caroline Jackson and privileged and clever Aoife O’Neill. But getting the right exam results is only part of Maeve’s problem—she’s got to survive a tit-for-tat paramilitary campaign, iron 100 shirts an hour all day every day, and deal with the attentions of Andy Strawbridge, her slick and untrustworthy English boss. What seems  to  be  a  great  opportunity  to  earn  money  before  starting  university  turns  out to be a crucible in which Maeve is tested in ways she may not be equipped to handle. Seeking justice for herself and her fellow workers may just be Maeve’s one-way ticket out of town.

Bitingly  hilarious,  perceptive,  and  steeped  in  the  vernacular  of  its  time  and  place, Factory Girls is perfect for fans of voice-driven stories with bite, humor, and realism, such as the Netflix series Derry Girls and novels by Douglas Stuart, Roddy Doyle, and Anna Burns.

I was born in County Tyrone in the mid 70s and grew up during the Troubles a few miles from the border between the ‘Free State’ and the ‘United Kingdom’. The border between these territories dominated all our lives. In the late 1960s, 19 roads criss-crossed Donegal and Tyrone in our local area. By the 1970s, just one ‘official’ road was left usable after the British Army blew up and barricaded the ‘unapproved’ roads and bridges. This campaign dramatically impacted communities on both sides of the border throughout my childhood and teens.

My Thoughts

Factory Girls by Michelle Gallen is a story of an 18-year-old girl, Maeve Murray who lives in a Northern Ireland town. She is waiting for her grades, GCSEs to arrive that will enable her to move to London to study journalism.

The story takes place in 1994 during the "troubles" of the time where the Catholics and the 'prods', Protestants, are at odds. There are bombings going on that the people of NI take as a given. It has been going on so long that it has become the norm. This conflict went on for 30 years so this time frame for the novel fits right in.

Maeve and her best friends, Caroline and Aoife get a job at a shirt factory and move in together in an apartment. Maeve wants to make enough money so she can go to London. This factory employees both the Catholics and Protestants which at times can be a challenge for both sides.

The boss, Andy Strawbridge is a good-looking guy, and he knows it and uses it to his advantage. To get the girls he wants and further his future prospects. He has his eyes on Maeve for sure. She is not sure if she wants the attention or not. After watching Andy, the girls determine that he is not on the up and up. His treatment of the women he employs is disrespectful to say the least.

This book reflects the troubles between the Irish, British, the Catholics and the Protestants and the IRA. There is mention of the conflicts between these factions, told straightforward but with a bit of humor. This summer has the girls partying a lot after work hours. There is sadness in the story also because Maeve's sister had committed suicide and Maeve is trying to understand the reasons which can make her bitter at times.

I found that I liked Maeve, even though she was pretty brash, and her colorful language added to the humor in the story even though the 'troubles' was anything but humorous. This was an extremely dangerous time for the people of Northern Ireland.

The author's writing definitely reflected this conflict and how the people lived during this time. Written with knowledge and humor made the story flow, otherwise I think it would have been difficult to read. I love reading books by Irish authors and this one is one of the best I have read in a while. I give it 5 stars!

I received a copy of the book for review purposes only.

Confessions of a Fangirl

(Her Confessions, #1)
Publication date: December 7th 2021
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

Life is good. I have a plush job, supportive friends, and a close-knit family. When the new hottie at the office asks me out on a date, I think I just won the jackpot.

Until movie night with the girls leads me down a dark rabbit hole. Who is he? An innocent Google search about a handsome actor has my imagination spinning. Now I’m drowning, and I don’t want salvation. I want him.

But I already have the perfect man. This obsession might just ruin my life.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

“Why don’t you turn on the TV? I have a movie in for us to watch.” He winks. “I think you’ll enjoy it.”

I narrow my gaze. “Is it inappropriate?”

Shaun’s eyes widen. “What would give you the impression I would dare cross that line? We’ve only known each other for two weeks.”

“True.”

“Normally I let crazy out of the bottle after the third date, never before then.”

I spin around to face him. “I knew it.”

He doubles over the sink laughing. “Just turn on the TV, Jen.”

When I turn it on, a familiar song comes through the speakers. I grin like an idiot when I see the familiar logo. “Source of Destiny,” I mutter under my breath.

“Good thing you’re a Space Vendetta fan, huh?” He dries his hands and joins me.

My face heats. “Actually, I’m a newbie to the whole thing. We watched it the other weekend for movie night. It was the first time I’d ever heard of the series.”

“Oh, so you had your SVS cherry popped recently, huh?” Shaun sits on the couch next to me and takes the remote from my hand.

“I guess you could say that.” I bite my tongue knowing he doesn’t mean anything by the comment, but it leaves me a bit breathless.

“I guess it’s not your typical movie night choice then.”

“No. One of the guys in the mailroom suggested it when he heard Lily and me discussing ideas in the break room.”

“Lily.” Shaun thinks for a moment. “Oh yes, the classic vintage aficionado.” He nods sagely. “She always looks stunning. It’s a great style on her.”

“Right?” I push away the twist of jealousy. “I envy her style. She looks so put together.”

“You do too.” He grabs my hand and laces his fingers with mine. “It’s what I noticed first about you.”

There goes the damn rollercoaster again. “Really?”

“Yeah.” He squeezes my hand.

I turn my head away to hide the flaming blush I know has consumed my face. My gaze rests on the TV and the logo on the screen.

“Shall we start the movie?”

“Sure.” He presses play and pulls me against him, draping his arm around my shoulder.

We’ve both seen the film before, but within moments we’re both drawn into the story on the screen. My body tenses in anticipation. I know what’s coming, and I brace myself for it.

Captain Korbin Ransom appears on the screen on queue. An ache settles in my chest. Guiltily, I glance at Shaun, who’s entranced by the film. My gaze drifts back to the movie.

This inexplainable gravity draws me into the story. A closeup of the villain’s profile has my heart racing. My fingers dig into Shaun’s thigh. He shifts and pulls me closer.

What the hell is wrong with me? My second date and I’m swooning over a man on the screen when I should be all over the warm, solid man beside me. He made me dinner. Made me feel special. Hell, he made me tiramisu!

As the movie continues, I hold my breath for the moments Korbin Ransom appears in all his leather-clad wonder. The character’s brooding darkness and sexy swagger have me on the edge of my seat. I’m drawn to this villain in ways I can’t comprehend.

I like good men. Honest men. Men who make me dinner and treat me like a queen. But deep in the dark recesses of my mind, my imagination flirts with something I’ve never allowed into the light. I’m aroused and ashamed. I shove these fantasies of a tempting villain aside and focus on enjoying this moment with Shaun, a good man of flesh and blood.

When the credits roll, I slowly shift from beneath his arm and stretch. “That movie gets better every time I see it. I mean, it’s like I catch details I missed before.”

“Yeah, happens to me too.” He stretches his arm out and grabs my wrist, pulling me back against him.

I’m breathless, caught in the haze of his blue eyes. My heart’s racing.

“Jen…am I going too fast for you?” There’s hunger in their depths.

I swallow. “No.”

“If I ever make you uncomfortable, tell me.” A soft smile curves his lips. “I like you.”

“I like you too.” My fingers brush his cheek. I lean in and kiss him.

His soft lips part beneath mine and he pulls me closer. “You can stay tonight if you want,” he whispers between passionate kisses.

“As much as I would love to take you up on that.” I sigh against his lips. “I can’t.”

He nods. “I understand. Sleeping together on a second date feels like we’re going at hyperspeed.”

I chuckle at the Space Vendetta reference. “Yeah, it does.”

“I’ll leave it up to you.” He kisses the tip of my nose. “When you’re ready, let me know.”

Kirsten Blacketer writes the stories she's dying to read. She likes mystery and intrigue, handsome heroes, sassy heroines, and a chance to break the rules. She lives for sexual tension and loves kissing scenes. There's no way she can write in just one era, so don't be surprised if you see her jumping from medieval Scotland to prohibition on the Mississippi River to late Victorian London then onto contemporary Brooklyn. She follows wherever the muse leads her.

Meet the Character Day: Chatting with Larry from Killer in Wolf’s Clothing By Kelli A. Wilkins Character Interview!

www.KelliWilkins.com

This “Meet the Character Day” blog is part of a series examining my romance novels. In each “Behind the Scenes” blog, I talk about why I wrote the book, share my thoughts on the plot and/or characters, and reveal what I loved most (or least) about writing the book.

The “Meet the Character Day” blogs are fun chats with the heroes and heroines from my romances. Warning: blogs may contain spoilers.

Today we’re chatting with Larry, one of the heroes from Kelli’s gay paranormal romance, Killer in Wolf’s Clothing. Let’s get to know him better…

Hi Larry. Before we get started, could you tell readers about the book?

Sure. This super-hot gay paranormal/shifter romance is a fun look at the werewolf legend and blends mystery, danger, humor, and sizzling love scenes. There are lots of twists and turns—and a serial killer! Here’s the summary and links:

Killer in Wolf’s Clothing

A super aggressive Alpha male, a serial killer, and a visit to a kinky sex club… What has Larry gotten himself into?

When Larry learns that his boyfriend Greg changes into another man during the full moon, he has a hard time accepting it—until he meets Deke, Greg’s alternate Alpha personality.

Deke doesn’t play nice and has no time for games. He only wants two things—to get laid and to get revenge against the arsonist who murdered his friends. Finally free from Greg’s restraints, Deke is ready for action, and Larry is more than willing to submit to Deke’s needs.

Together, Larry and Deke set out to find the killer. Their hunt takes them to an all-night Alpha sex club where things heat up for the two of them. But when Larry unwittingly falls into the clutches of the murderer, it’s up to Deke—and Greg—to save him before it’s too late.

Please give readers a little background about where you are when the story opens.

When the story begins, my partner Greg and I are having an argument. I’m accusing him of having an affair because he’s been acting strange and goes away once a month. He won’t tell me where he goes or what he does, so naturally, I’m suspicious.

One night, I staked out his house and learned he was lying to me. He didn’t go anywhere. When I confront him, he insists he isn’t cheating on me. I call him a liar and tell him we’re done. As much as I love him, I can’t handle dishonesty. Then Greg confessed something that floored me. He said he wasn’t cheating on me with another guy—he said he became another guy—and he’s a werewolf.

How did you react?

How would anyone react? I thought he was crazy, or lying, or both. I couldn’t take it seriously; I mean, come on, of all the excuses in the world… who would fall for that? I told him it was bullshit and he needed professional help.

Greg explained that he thought he was going crazy too and had already talked to psychiatrists. He was having blackouts and thought he had a multiple personality disorder, but nobody believed him. So, he made a video of himself changing from cute, sweet Greg, into Deke. He said he literally changed into a different person (like the Incredible Hulk.) I told him he was lying. Then he asked me if I wanted to see the video!

And? Did he really transform? What did you think of that?

Yes! He really transformed into a different person! I was so stunned I didn’t know what to say or do. One minute Greg was there, and then the next, he turned into this guy, Deke.

Greg and I had a long talk and he explained how he got into this unusual situation (I won’t give away those details now, it’s all explained in the book), and we worked everything out between us. Then of course, I decided I had to see things for myself. That’s when I met Deke.

Tell us about your first meet with Deke. What’s he like?

When I learned Greg changed, I snuck back to his house and discovered Deke. Or rather, he discovered me. Deke really is a completely different person from Greg. He’s gruff, assertive, sexually demanding (in a good way) and absolutely gorgeous. Deke and I talked, and he told me he’s pissed at Greg for keeping him locked up and preventing him from having a life. Now that Deke was free, he wanted to find the person who killed his friends.

The story is more than a romance. It’s also a blend of danger and mystery. You and Deke set out to find a killer. Can you talk about that?

Sure. Deke (and Greg) used to live in California, and one night an Alpha sex club burned down, killing almost everyone. Deke knows it wasn’t an accident and wants to find the killer. When the story opens, there have been several “Moonlight Murders” taking place around town and Greg (and Deke) thinks it’s a rogue Alphaand the same guywho torched the club.

Deke and I play detective and try to track down the psycho. I don’t want to give away too much of the story and spoil the ending in case people haven’t read the book. But I can say we find out who’s responsible for the current murders and the arson in California.

Did you sometimes want to strangle Kelli for making your life difficult in the book?

Yes, without a doubt! I was captured by a serial killer and held captive (while naked, no less). Thanks, Kelli! Of course, it was a crucial part of the story, and Kelli knew what she was doing when she wrote those scenes. Obviously things worked out okay. (After all, I am alive.)

For the most part, I didn’t mind the other things she put me through with Deke (being subservient to him—in and out of the bedroom). I was okay with it, and I like aggressive men. Overall, Greg and Deke and I went through a lot of emotional heartache in the book. But we worked it out in the end.

The book has very explicit, super-hot sex scenes. Care to comment on them?

Well, to quote Deke, he likes two things: to eat and screwand he does a lot of both in this book. Yes, there’s plenty of gay sex in the story, and later Deke and I visit a sex club for Alpha males. (Another thanks for Kelli!) The sex scenes were included to contrast the difference between Greg and Deke, and also show what horny animals Deke (and the other Alphas) are. Kelli created the Alpha male sex club for a specific reason (I can’t divulge why here) but if you’ve read the book, you’ll understand, and it will make perfect sense.

Without giving away any secrets, can we assume there’s a HEA ending, and the killer gets caught?

Yes. The book has a happy ending and leaves everyone in a good place. Kelli included an epilogue that wrapped up everything and hinted at the future. As for the killeryes, justice was served. I’m happy to say the book got some great reviews…

Praise for Killer in Wolf's Clothing...

“4 stars! Killer in Wolf's Clothing offers a different and very creative take on werewolves. I loved the whole concept. Two very different people sharing a body that changes too. Hot, sexy, and a little kinky, this one tells a very engaging story. Larry and Greg are great as a couple but Larry and Deke really smolder. The transformation of Greg into Deke is detailed and the whole idea just pulls you in. Add a crazy serial killer and a werewolf sex club to the mix and you a wild ride. Great fun!” - Emma, Night Owl Reviews

"Killer in Wolf’s Clothing was a delight to read. Deke is so different from Greg in his sexual needs and desires. Larry enjoyed both men for different reasons. Then trouble brewed and they all had to work together. Kelli A. Wilkins has penned a tale that will heat your blood and increase your heart rate as you become immersed in the hot love scenes and the terror of the murderer. Killer in Wolf’s Clothing shows that you never know who your neighbor is." - Sensual Reads

“4 stars! Killer in Wolf's Clothing is a quick fun read that will hook you from the beginning. A bit different than I'm used to regarding werewolves, but I totally enjoyed the book. Recommended for all who like the horror genre with a twist of fun.” - Susan, Sweet-n-Sassi.blogspot

Anything else you’d like to add about Kelli and her books?

Kelli has also written two other gay romances. A Secret Match takes place in the world of professional wrestling. Four Days with Jack is about two best friends who fall in love at a tropical resort. I’m looking forward to reading them and seeing what adventures those characters get into. Kelli always has interesting plots and unique (and sexy) heroes!

Currently, Kelli is working on another gay romance, and she released In Another World earlier this year. This novel is a M/F paranormal mystery/romance that includes a gay character. Readers can check out her straight contemporary and historical romances (some also have gay secondary characters) on her site www.kelliwilkins.com. She’s written several horror and sci-fi stories that look interesting.

Thank you for letting me chat today. I hope everyone reads Killer in Wolf’s Clothing. If you missed any blog in this series, you can catch up here: https://www.kelliwilkins.com/blog
