The Feather's Push (Relented Part 2) by Noel Zamot Book Tour! #NoelZamotAuthor @noel_zamot #books #readers #reading #booklovers #bookbuzz #bookboost @SilverDaggerBookTours

In a world disrupted by a social media app with unimaginable reach, a woman who can change emotions through touch must join forces with the man who once sought to kill her, racing to uncover the secret of their shared affliction.

The Feather's Push

Relented Part 2

by Noel Zamot

Genre: Speculative Thriller

Amber Drake can sense emotions through touch. Today she learned she can change them.

In the wake of a near-fatal accident, Air Force Lieutenant Amber Drake awakens to a chilling reality: she can sense the emotions that others hide. The ability draws government interest, plunging her into a secretive, shadow world. Then a sudden tragedy rips through Amber's life, threatening her mission: shadow a young college professor named Kelly Austin, and her partner Simon Lyons. Simon's ability to glimpse seconds into the future makes him useful, enigmatic - and dangerous.

As Amber's condition evolves, she finds it easier to manipulate others - and spiral into darkness. When her cover is blown, Amber uncovers a disturbing truth-those she trusted harbor the darkest secrets.

In a world of rogue operatives, mind-controlled fanatics, and a social media platform with mind-altering reach, Amber discovers the connections to those she loves are the most powerful weapon. Trust, however, proves elusive - especially when she must rely on Simon Lyons, the man intertwined with her past - and capable of her demise.

"The Feather's Push," the gripping sequel to the best-selling "The Archer's Thread," blends the ingenuity of Blake Crouch with the genre-defying narratives of VE Schwab. The story propels readers into a too-familiar reality, where the lines between mind and machine blur, trust is illusory, and every touch can reveal or destroy. Will Amber survive this nightmare, or will she lose everything in its endless depths?

The nursing home lay quiet, like every other house on the street. Amber stood on the opposite sidewalk, trying to find any sign that gave an indication of the buildings true purpose. She was sure she was in the right place. The strangers walking past annoyed her, bit actors in a mundane play, traffic their grating soundtrack. Even though she could not understand their faces, she resented them for not caring about those inside.

She walked across the cracked asphalt feeling detached, as if headed to work. It was too easy to hide in plain sight, which made her feel guilty. Even Doctor Austin didnt know. The noise blasting through her life drove her crazy. But she had to prove it, to herself and the world.

She opened the door, surprised to find no one checking for visitors. A small table held two guest books, one for each side of the building. The book only listed last names—nothing more about those whose lives would end here. One person on the ledger for Suite A had written Love you Grandpa!” in a middle school scrawl.

She heard muffled sounds from the ground floor kitchen a few yards ahead. The smell of old wood mixed with the antiseptic edge of disinfectant, a somber hint of the true nature of the building. This was where people came to die.

She walked up the creaky stairs and almost stumbled onto the caregiver. She was wide and tough, and Amber thought of the strength shed need to see people die every day.

Good evening. May I help you?”

Amber took a halting breath. Im here to visit family.”

Did you check in downstairs?”

I…didnt see anyone there. Figured Id just come up.”

Who are you visiting?”

She knew reaching out too quickly to touch others was unnerving, and they often pulled back, making the push difficult. Without thinking, she reached out, not looking at the caregiver, and touched her hand. She felt a tingling from her neck to her chest, and the hunger made her dizzy.

Pity me.

Amber dared to look up at the nurse and sighed in relief.

Oh, sweetie, Im so sorry. Do you need…”

Is…he…” Amber only knew her target was an old man, and hoped the push was enough to hide her lack of preparation with empathy.

Hes right here. Hes in and out, but hes still with us.” The woman showed her to a door on the left, smiled sweetly, and walked off.

She was not used to the smell. Something chemical tried to mask the waste and decay, overpowering the flowers and potpourri that well-meaning family members brought for the same reason. The man in the bed was frail, his skin almost translucent, with pale blue eyes peeking from under tired eyelids. Machines flashed and hummed around him, quietly watching over the inevitable. He barely moved his head when she walked in.

Hello,” she said. The man could not speak. She put her hand on his bare forearm, cold and slender, to listen: contentment and surprise. His thoughts soon became clear. The man did not know who she was, but was happy for company. Any company. He knew well his days were few.

Amber gazed at the old strangers eyes, wondering how much they had seen throughout his life, decades before shed been born. Someone long ago had fallen in love with him, whether or not hed ever known it. She wondered how the man would have looked years ago—strong and handsome?—and whether she, as a young woman his age, wouldve smiled and blushed at the light in his eyes. Instead, she wanted to cry. He was old, gaunt, and so alone that even a stranger lingering for scant moments was a welcome joy. In another role, snuffing the mans life wouldve been child's play.

But not her, and not today.

She closed her eyes tight, pushing away shame and despair. She put the emotions in a corner of her mind and focused on the mans thin, papery skin.

You are loved. Be happy.

She opened her eyes and was surprised to see the mans toothless smile, trying to bring his other hand to cover hers. His bleary eyes watered, and she noticed a red light flashing insistently on the far side of the bed. He tried to speak but couldnt through the tears. His heart rate was spiking.

Nervous and hungry, she closed her eyes, breathed deeply, and focused on the push.

Be calm. You are loved.

She felt the tingle from the back of her neck to her hand, pushing with every ounce of her soul, and the tension in the old man subsided. She opened her eyes to see him gazing at her with the sweetest smile shed ever seen. He struggled to keep his eyes open, and his thin chest rose and fell almost imperceptibly. She knew what he wanted to say.

Youre welcome,” she said and her voice broke. Sleep well.”

She tucked his hand on his chest, and to her own surprise, bent over and kissed his forehead. He was cold and smelled old and wet, but she didnt care. The man closed his eyes, smiled, and sighed.

Amber closed the door quietly behind her, walked down the stairs and into the night without a word to the nurse. She turned toward Huron Street, weaving past the bushes overgrowing tidy plots in their autumn glory. She wiped her tears with the hands that had just touched an old man, a stranger, father or grandfather or brother or son or husband to someone who she would never know. She sobbed, heartbroken at the old mans loneliness, thankful that she could give him a priceless gift.

You are loved.

And I am not a monster.

The Sardinian Story

Apennine Mountains, Italy, 1965

Leonora Bacchetti was once a happy child. But at the age of seventeen she has become a wild and rebellious young woman who leaves her parents in despair when she runs away from home with a group of itinerant travellers.

In the eyes of their friends and neighbours in the tight-knit village of Montacciolo, her parents’ good name is ruined.

At first, Leonora keeps in touch with her mother and father, sending letters and postcards from different countries until, very abruptly, her correspondence stops. The girl has vanished.

Vague, unreliable rumours of her fate abound, but newspaper appeals, police and private investigations reveal nothing.

Until, eighteen years later, in the midst of a snowstorm, a stranger from Sardinia knocks on the door of Leonora’s father’s little mountain house.

Now a widower, he has come to terms with never knowing what happened to his daughter. But everything changes when the unexpected visitor claims that he has new information.

The two men quickly bond and gradually begin to piece together the truth about Lenora, provoking deep questions about her life and how they have lived their own – questions about love, loyalty, honesty and what being a family really means.

The Sardinian Story is a novel of exquisite power and deep emotion which will live long in the memories of its readers.

My Thoughts

After the death of her husband Richie, Cassie Macreddin  continues on with the plans that they had together, to own and operate a B&B. She purchases the historic Hindon House. The perfect place for her to recover from her tragic past.

Not everyone is happy with her decision in the town. It seems that someone is trying to chase her from her plans. The lights go off, and the electric breaker keeps getting turned off. She hires the best, or so she thought to get started on the remoldeing. It is a huge undertaking with The things that go on you would think that this is a haunted house, well it may very well be.

Cassie meets and makes friends with an elderly lady and they often visit each other. She learns a little more about the house and about who had previously lived there, and why they left. The man that she has hired to do the work Daniel Cody seems to be legit, so between the two of them, she starts going through and getting rid of items that were left behind.
A bit of a back story, her husband prior to dying had asked Cassie for a divorce. He is no longer happy in the marriage, while on the way to a friend's house for a party, there is a tragic accident that she feels was her fault.

Things get stranger and stranger until the culmination, had me floored, never saw it coming. But that is what a good story is about, right? Keep the reader hooked until the last page. I really enjoyed the book. I do intend to read more by this author!

I received a copy of the book from Rachel's Random Resources for review purposes only and was not monetarily compensated for said review.

I give it 5 stars!

Thanasis doesn’t look amused. “You know kids live on this street. Stringing the lights to look like Santa is peeing off the side of the house isn’t appropriate. And having my elves holding a body bag with the rest of my Christmas decorations in it is borderline disturbing.”

I can’t help it. I snort with laughter. Thanasis’ eyes soften and I notice a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth. “I wanted us to become friends. To make peace.”

Doubtful. But I’ll play along. “Fine. Let’s be friends.”

“Too late. You don’t mess with a man’s yard.” I scoff,  Thanasis continues. “I want you to remember you started this.”

Started what? “Nothing has started. It’s finished. Consider that as me getting even for last night.”

“What happened last night?”

“You were being obscene.” I hate the way my eyes drift to his lips. His perfect teeth are on display with his sexy knowing smile. His tongue snakes out only a bit to wet his lips, but it’s enough to have me squeezing my thighs together.

“And you’re being childish by vandalizing my property.”

“Is it vandalizing if it’s an improvement? When you think about it, I did you a favor. Consider it my gift to you for Sweetest Day.”

“You definitely spiced up the neighborhood. I’ll see you for our playdate.”

I loathe the fact that he looks so sexy when he winks. I wonder if I can teach the dogs to pee on him.

Voices of Cancer By Lynda Wolters Book Tour!

Voices of Cancer

"I don't know what to say" and "I don't know what to do" are common responses to a life-threatening diagnosis. Voices of Cancer is here to help.

Every cancer story is different, but there is one commonality: both patients and the people supporting them often struggle to properly articulate their wants and needs through particularly challenging and in many cases, uncharted territory. Lynda Wolters knows firsthand: she was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal mantle cell lymphoma in August of 2016.

Voices of Cancer offers a candid look into the world of a cancer patient, informed by Lynda’s own story and conversations had with dozens of patients weighing in on their needs, wants, and dislikes as they navigate the complex world of diagnosis, treatment, and beyond. With comprehensive and accessible insight from people who’ve been there, Voices of Cancer helps educate, dispel fears, and start positive conversations about what a cancer diagnosis truly means, while shining a light on how best to support a loved one on their own terms.

Book excerpt:

Through years of becoming a more sensitive

world, we are all learning how to communicate in a less derogatory

manner. This, however, has fallen short when it comes to how we

speak to people who have been given a devastating diagnosis. It is my

contention that there are still some areas that need work; speaking

of diagnoses is one of them.

Voices on Thoughtless Words

Be aware of some common irritating phrases.

“You look good, though.” While a seemingly harmless thing

to say, when the patient is going through treatment, they know they

look different or ill but certainly not “good,” at least in their eyes.

Therefore, this statement can often feel more like an attempt to placate

or avoid the obvious, which is not helpful. Rather than stating what

feels like a little white lie to make the person with the illness feel

better, it is more appreciated to hear something believable, such as,

“It’s good to see you. I can see you’re going through a lot right now,

and I am sure that is difficult for you.” This puts the person first, and

it is a respectful acknowledgment of the difference in appearance.

Vanity is not necessarily the issue here, but cancer changes

everything and we know it: we feel it, we see it. Our skin changes

tone, sometimes pale, ashen, yellow, or greenish. We get dark circles

under our eyes and blemishes, boils, rashes, and herpes zosters

(shingles) on our skin. We lose our hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes,

as well as nose hair and pubic hair. There is weight gain and loss,

atrophy of muscles, and once shapely bodies become misshapen

with flab and cellulite from lack of exercise. The shape of our faces

can change to a “moon face” due to steroids. Often, we have weird

ports and PICC lines, tubes, drains, and bags of fluid showing out

of our chest, neck, arms, and so on.

We patients see someone different looking back at us in the

mirror, and we know you see it too. It’s okay to be honest: we have

enough mystery in our lives with our treatment and body changes,

we don’t need our friends and family adding to that layer of unknown

with what feels like untruths.

“At least you got the good cancer.” This one just blows me

away, for many reasons. Before my diagnosis, while I was waiting

for my results, I actually prayed that I had an “easy” cancer. What

was I thinking? Is there such a thing? Regardless of the stage or the

type, cancer is terrifying and ominous, and it will haunt you for the

rest of your life. So, a good cancer? There is no such thing.

“I’m sorry.” This is a tough one, and I have been known to

Use it myself when I didn’t know what else to say. I am guessing

that is why it is used by others as well. It seems to be unwelcome,

however, because it is an easy catch-all phrase with no real meaning

behind it. A child uses, “I’m sorry” to get out of trouble regardless

of meaning it. “I’m sorry” is not an apology nor should it be used

when you don’t know what else to say—after all, my diagnosis is not

your fault and you didn’t do anything to be sorry about. Perhaps it

would fall easier on the ears if “I’m sorry” is followed by “you have

to go through this.”

“That’s life.” When my friend Mark, who is battling brain

cancer, told me this was one of his most-hated phrases after his

diagnosis, I had no words. Really, who would say that to a cancer

patient? I am thinking I would just walk away from that one and

regroup, as I am not sure the speaker would even deserve a response.

“Bless your heart.” This always makes me laugh because I can

hear my friends Susan and Anastasia, both of whom have cancer, say

this with a condescending twang: “Why, bless your heart, honey.”

(Imagine a hand on a hip and a downward tilt of the head, eyes

peering over the tops of glasses.) Perhaps we just take the blessing

and run with this one.

“Be strong.” Is there any other choice?

“You got this.” Yes, I do have this; I have cancer. Thank you for

reminding me, runs through my head every time someone says this

to me.

“Keep fighting.” Refer to the “Be strong” comment above.
