Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

Release Blitz, Peyton & Noah ( A Beaumont Wedding) Heidi Mclaughlin!

Title: Peyton & Noah ( A Beaumont Wedding)
Author: Heidi Mclaughlin
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Sports Romance
Release Date: December 18, 2018

Everyone dreams of meeting their soulmate. The person who completes them. For Peyton and Noah, they grew up together, falling in love along the way. Wedding bells are ringing. And the couple who almost wasn’t, Is going to be. Peyton and Noah invite you into their life. To spend some time with their family. As they prepare to walk down the aisle.

By the time we stop at the third bridal store, or maybe it’s the fourth, could be fifth because I’ve lost count, I realize why couples elope. The stress of having everything right, everything perfect, is almost too much to handle. The words I’ve heard today are it’s too frilly, not enough lace, the back looks odd, you look frumpy, is enough to make me want to throw my hands up and say forget it. Maybe it’s the champagne talking and being unreasonable in my head. With each store, comes a plate of hors d’oeuvres from restaurants looking to land a contract from me, and champagne from the best vineyards, wanting to supply our reception with their bottles. Because of my dad and who I’m marrying, the A-list treatment is real and all I want to do is pick a wedding dress with my mom and sister and decide on bridesmaids’ gowns that don’t look like they belong in an 80’s prom magazine. Most of all, I just want to marry Noah, in front of our family and friends, in a simple ceremony.
I’m surrounded by mirrors, and my reflection tells me that I’m tired and have had way too much champagne. I want to eat, gorge myself on carbs and ice cream until my stomach revolts. I want everything unhealthy and not listed on the approved list that my uncle Xander gave me. He means well and is only giving me what I wanted when I asked him to help get me into shape for my wedding.
My body jerks to the left or right, depending on which way the saleswoman is pulling the gown I’m trying on. It’s not my favorite, but my mom fawned over it as soon as she saw it on the hanger. In fact, she’s loved just about every dress she’s picked out, as well as some of Elle’s choices. Each one I show her, brings her to tears. I guess this is a mom thing to do, to cry at the sight of their daughters dressed in wedding gowns. I texted Noah and warned him I plan to be the same way when we have a daughter going through this. He replied, telling me how much he loves the idea that we’re going to have children.
I have yet to find the one. Not man, because I found him many years ago, but dress. In my mind, it exists. It’s out there, sitting on some rack, being passed by, waiting for me to try it on. I know I could have had a bespoke gown, designed, and made to my own specifications, if I were to delay my wedding for a few more months. I’m not sure a dress is worth it. My parents are going to spend hundreds, if not thousands, on a dress that I’ll wear for a few hours, send off to dry-cleaning and have stored in a box. It seems frivolous and a waste of someone’s time.
Elle enters the dressing area and crinkles her nose. She gets it. At least, she pretends to. “Do you like it?”
I stare at her through the mirrors, not answering. I don’t need to. It’s a twin thing, she knows how I’m feeling.
“Mom means well. She’s excited.”
“I can’t wait for it to be your turn,” I tell her. “When will Ben propose?”
Elle shrugs, playing my question off. Her relationship with Ben is similar to the one I share with Noah. Lifelong loves with the difference being Elle didn’t realize she was in love with Ben until it was almost too late. Her stubbornness almost blew her chance at happiness but thankfully Ben was determined to win her love.
“What? Don’t you talk about marriage?”
“Not really,” she says. “We’re both so busy. Ben has a really good job, plus he’s helping me launch my career. We’re both sort of focusing on work right now.”
“You want him to ask you. I can tell.”
Elle waves me off. “The commitment would be nice.”
“So ask him. I would’ve had Noah not. I wasn’t going to let him go.”
The saleswoman makes one final tug before she dismisses me to go see my mom. Elle helps me off the large platform and holds the curtains open for me. Mom stands, covers her mouth, and proudly proclaims this is the best one yet.
“Mom, you say that each time,” Elle points out. “How are we supposed to help Peyton choose?”
Mom wipes at the tears falling. “I can’t help it, I just…” she looks from me to Elle, and then down at the floor. “I’m emotional is all.”
She doesn’t have to finish her sentence. I already know she was going to say something like “never thought she’d see this day.” She’s not the only one to think that. Sometimes, I have nightmares about the wedding, about Noah and I. Me sitting in church, watching him marry someone else. I’m there out of obligation because our families have been friends for forever. In this dream, his bride finds me crying in the bathroom, telling me that everything will be okay. She has no idea who I am or that I’m madly in love with her new husband. She just sees a weeping woman in the restroom who needs comfort. When my dreams do show my wedding to Noah, it’s perfect because it’s him and I standing there, professing our love for one another.
“Peyton, do you like the dress?” My mother asks.
I look down and trace the intricate beadwork. A seamstress or tailor spent a long time putting this together and it will be the right dress for a bride that isn’t me. “It’s pretty, but I think it’s too busy for what I had in mind.”
Mom smiles. “We have a handful of other stores to try.”
“Actually, there’s a vintage shop not far from here. I’d like to look in there.”

About the Book

Cozy Mystery 4th in Series
Solstice Publishing (October 17, 2018)
Paperback: 241 pages
ISBN-10: 1625268505
ISBN-13: 978-1625268501
Digital ASIN: B07JHV9FJC
It’s February in the small town of Cobble Cove. Love is in the air . . . but so is murder!
When Alicia helps plan a Valentine’s Day Party at the Cobble Cove library that also includes a surprise for her newlywed friend, Gilly, things go wrong when a mysterious box of chocolates addressed to the director turns out laced with poison.
Clues Lead to A Dead Suspect
Although Alicia promised John she’ll no longer meddle in crime investigations, she and Gilly set out to find the person threatening Sheila who murdered the courier of the deadly candy. The three people they suspect include the professor from California who’s been romancing Sheila while she assists him with research for his book; the obnoxious patron Rhonda Kleisman who threw coffee at the director after refusing to pay for a damaged book; and a visiting widow staying at Gilly’s inn who’s unnaturally curious about Sheila and earns the nickname of Madame Defarge for her interest in knitting.
New Cat in Town
While Alicia and Gilly are trying to solve this new Cobble Cove mystery, Sneaky is introduced to Gilly’s new kitten, Kittykai, a calico she brought home from her honeymoon in Hawaii. It’s not like at first sight, but the two cats eventually become friends. They also both play a part in foiling the killer’s murder attempts, but will Alicia and Sheila survive unscathed?

LOVE ON THE ROCKS
When they arrived at the inn, Sneaky’s plaintive meows had mellowed down to short cries. Alicia hefted his carrier up the porch steps. She was about to knock on the door when Gilly opened it and came out to greet her. Her friend from Long Island who had relocated to Cobble Cove last year was dressed unseasonly in a sleeveless multi-colored flowered Hawaiian dress, a red lei around her neck. She had a golden tan that radiated from her normally pale skin.
“Good morning, Alicia,” she chirped. “You just missed Ron. He took the boys to school and then insisted on getting back to work. He kept checking in with his officers while we were away, but I had my means of getting his attention back to his new wife.” She grinned. “Come on in and bring Sneaky. I can’t wait to see what he thinks of his surprise.”
As Alicia entered, she saw John and the twins seated in the breakfast nook. The three of them each had a lei of a different color around their necks. “Mommy’s here,” John told Carol and Johnny, “and she’s brought Sneaky.”
“Sneaky,” Carol yelled. Johnny put out his hand and petted the air.
Now that the cat was safely inside, he had stopped crying completely. Alicia was hesitant to open his carrier. She placed it down by the entrance to the room.
“You can release him,” Gilly said. “All the doors are closed.”
“Not yet. Let me have a quick bite to eat and when you’re ready to bring out his surprise, I’ll let him out of the carrier.”
“I think that’s a good idea.”
She sat next to John where a place was set with a glass of orange juice and a plate of muffins and Gilly’s famous chocolate chip cookies. A yellow lei was draped on the back of the chair, obviously meant for her, so she put it on.
“Would you like some tea or coffee?” Gilly offered. “I know you have to get back to the library soon, but it’s really good to see you. I can’t wait to hear about everything that happened here while I was away.”
“You haven’t missed much, Gilly. How was the honeymoon? You look wonderful.”
Gilly blushed under her tan. “I feel great. We had a wonderful time in Maui. You two really must go one day.” She glanced at John. “I have more souvenirs for you both and a few things for the kids, too. You can open them at home later, but I really would like to bring out Sneaky’s surprise now.” Before Alicia could comment, Gilly rushed away from the table.
“Did you want coffee, Ali?” John asked.
“No, the orange juice is fine. I’ll have coffee at work later.” She bit into a cookie. “Where’s Edith and Rose?”
“Gilly said she told them to go home. Rose was staying here while she and Ramsay were on their honeymoon. There weren’t many guests at this time of year after the Christmas fair people went home.”
Alicia recalled how pleasant their annual event had gone this year compared to lasts. John had again acted as Santa Claus for the towns and visiting children. Carol and Johnny had now recognized it was their father, but they still believed the “real” Santa would deliver gifts to them on December 25th.
“Take Sneaky out of his carrier, please,” Gilly called from down the hall.
“I’ll do it,” John said rising from his chair. “You finish eating, Ali. This sounds like it’s going to be some surprise.” He winked.
“Suhpize,” Carol cried. Johnny nearly toppled his travel highchair as he edged closer to the cat carrier anticipating Sneaky’s escape.
With a deft motion, John clicked open the tabs on the top and bottom of the carrier. As he did at the vets, Sneaky refused to move but edged himself even further back in the box.
“Sneaky’s free, Gilly, but he’s not coming out,” John called.
“Let’s see if he does now,” Gilly said, entering the room. In her arms, bundled in the folds of her Hawaiian dress, was a tiny calico kitten.
“Oh, my gosh, Gilly!” Alicia said, almost choking on her cookie. “I don’t believe it. You brought a cat back from Hawaii. How did you manage that?” She was thinking about the quarantines and airline procedures.
“I have my ways,” she said rolling her eyes provocatively. “The check-in clerks and the captain found me quite alluring. Ron was jealous, but I got us a kitty. I found her on the beach, poor thing. I think she’ll make a great inn cat.” She brought the kitten over to the table. The twins went wild. “Kitty, Kitty,” they both called, reaching out. She handed the cat to Alicia who let Carol and Johnny pet her.
“It’s a little girl,” Alicia said, examining the backside of the kitten.
“Yep. Her name is KittyKai. ‘Kai’ means ‘sea’ in Hawaiian.”
“Pretty, the name and the cat. I never had a calico.”
“You should get a cat. The twins will be old enough soon to have a pet.”
“I think Sneaky’s enough for us,” John said, “and Fido when Dad brings him by.”
“Speaking of Sneaky,” Gilly said, “Look!” She pointed at the carrier where a beige head was peeking out. Slowly, the Siamese ambled out.
Gilly picked up KittyKai and placed her on the ground.
“Gilly, I don’t think…” Alicia was alarmed that Sneaky might harm the kitten. Instead, he sniffed her. KittyKai, however, drew her small body back, black, orange, and white fur standing on end, her tail erect – the signs of confrontation. She hissed in Sneaky’s face.
Gilly went to grab her, but Alicia stopped her. “No. Leave them alone. You don’t get in the middle of a cat fight.”
“They’re not fighting, Alicia. They’re getting to know one another.”
Sneaky backed away into his carrier. He was obviously not charmed by his “gift.” KittyKai, having won the small battle, skittered to Gilly.
“It’s going to take some time. You should bring Sneaky over more often. I was hoping they could be friends.”
“Gilly, Sneaky’s neutered.”
“Not those type of friends, Alicia. Is that all you think is on my mind?”
Alicia chose not to answer that question. “What does Ruby think of the new kitten?” Ruby was Gilly’s old beagle.
As if in answer to Alicia’s question, the dog strolled into the room and lay down. Kittykai joined her, and the two snuggled together by the back door.
“How cute. I wonder how Fido will react to Kittykai.”
“I’m going to invite Mac over later and see.”

The Beautiful Years Part III by Annie Rose Welch Book Tour!

Title: The Beautiful Years Part III
Author: Annie Rose Welch
Genre:Contemporary/ Mafia Romance
Release Date: February 7, 2019
Cover Designer: Buoni Amici Press

There was one secret that I kept from my wife.
The Fausti famiglia was one of the most infamous and powerful crime families in the world. Their rule spanned the thickness of history books.
And I was one of them.
I was the estranged son of the most ruthless man in the monarchy, Lucious Leone Fausti. Only a murderous technicality kept me out of his reach, but there was never any doubt that I belonged to him. I saw his reflection in every mirror. The darkness that lived in his eyes lived in mine.
My dangerous lineage had been hidden until my wife, Scarlett, the curious farfalle that she was, started fluttering around the sleeping giant. She awakened the monsters of my past, and they would stop at nothing to claim what they felt belonged to them.
Using my wife as a pawn in their game to lure me in? Wasn’t going to happen. They underestimated this monster they had created. I’d sacrifice it all to keep the woman I called mine safe—even if it meant my life.
La mia parola è buona quanto il mio sangue. My word is as good as my blood.
Book III in a seven-part Mafia Romance saga.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Annie has a habit of shortening her words and telling long stories. She speaks with a southern flair and cooks with it too. At the tender age of twenty- one, she hitched up her wagons (took her first plane ride) and moved out west to the big shake (California). Her passion for writing began one sleepless night when she imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above her like lightning bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in her head, she sat down and penned (typed) her first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for her, she hasn’t stopped writing since. She loves a damn good love story, always has, no matter what the genre. She is particularly moved by imperfect love that in its own unique way is perfect, the notion of love at first sight, soul mates, and things that are generally out of the norm.
When she’s not writing she enjoys dabbling in photography and finding new, inspirational music to add to her collection. She currently resides in Texas (where everything really is bigger) with her husband, daughter, and their three peculiar dogs, Boudreaux, Tabasco, and Vanna Loo (who, call her crazy, bark with an accent).

What if one morning you look in the mirror and no longer recognize the person looking back?

When Leelo can no longer identify herself by the roles that once defined her, it's both terrifying and liberating. Oh, she feels the loss, the grief, and then the anger, but when she inherits property up north, she jumps at the promise of freedom and independence.

Yet not everyone in her new community is what they seem, starting with the surly mountain man down the road.

As owner of the local fishing lodge, Roar is content with his everyday life. And the older he gets, the less he appreciates change. So when a blue-haired, tattooed 'city girl' moves into the old motel, shaking up his daily routine, he's none too pleased.

Still, something about the woman's easy smile and almost reckless grit has him step up as her keeper.

Sparky of Bunker Hill and the Cold Kid Case by Rosalind Barden Book Tour and Giveaway!

Lots of characters have it bad, in my Bunker Hill neighborhood smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles, but I’ve had it rougher than most. There may be something to this 13th business.
That's my birthday, and I’m learning to dread seeing it roll around. My mother died on one birthday. The cousins dumped me on my last. This year, 1932, I found a dead kid on a park bench. It’s my eleventh birthday, and the day me, Sparky, ended up on the run, wanted for murder.
If the dead girl wasn’t enough, the dirty newspapers pinned every body in LA on me, and even blamed me for the Great War. I wasn’t even born then. The price on my head got bigger by the day.
It was up to me to find out who killed the girl and why I got framed, before I ended up dangling from the hangman’s rope.
