Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

Painting Celia

Incubadora Book 1

by Maya Bairey

Genre:

Women’s Fiction, Steamy Romance

"You can live in my pool house, if you'll teach me to paint."

A stunning contemporary romance novel that will leave you

breathless, Painting Celia resonates with its relatable story about growth

 and love.

Living alone in her bare mansion in LA’s Hollywood Hills, gentle Celia takes up art therapy, hoping it will soothe the deep scars of her past. Each failed artwork deepens her fear of losing to depression, like her father.

León, an intense painter struggling with a creative block, empties his savings to move to LA in search of new visions. He needs a cheap studio and some raw, authentic inspiration—his dreams and future as an artist depend on it.

Brought together by their colorful mutual friends, Celia offers León a deal: he can live in her pool house for free if he teaches her to paint. As he becomes her infatuated teacher and she his reluctant muse, both are laid bare by their pursuit of honest art. Could the desperate creativity that drew them together also rip them apart?

A question to rouse fear within the breast of any prospective governess, unless…she wasn’t a governess at all.

Yet Amelia must gain this position by whatever means necessary, for this gentleman, dubbed The Scandalous Hugh Cadwalader by fashionable society, is not all he seems. Behind the elegant finery and azure eyes is a dangerous warrior of a man, a tenacious spy for the Crown.
One who might just have turned traitor…

Mr Cadwalader’s blue gaze flicked up once more.

Yet this time it held no idle humour. Just a simmering fierceness that caused an anomalous flare of flame within Amelia.

Perhaps a warning that beneath that elegant finery and idle smile, there lay a different man.

One of dangerous nights and dangerous intent.

Regency Romance with Warmth, Wit & Well-tied Cravats.
Emily grew up in the north of England on a diet of historical romance and strong tea.

Unfortunately, you couldn’t study Regency slang, so she did the next best thing and gained a degree in Classics and History instead. This ‘led’ to an eight-year stint in engineering.

Having left city life, she now lives in a dilapidated farmhouse where her days are spent writing, fixing the leaky roof, battling the endless vegetation, and finding pictures of well-tied cravats.

Prospect of Whitby. Oldest Thames-side Pub

In ‘A Governess Should Never… Lure a Spy’ our hero, the Scandalous Hugh Cadwalader, makes his way to the oldest Thames-side tavern in London, ‘The Prospect of Whitby’, for a clandestine encounter, so I felt the need to undertake some exhaustive research… Testing the drinks, partaking of a meal by the River Thames and taking lots of photos!

Nowadays, this area of Wapping is prosperous with exclusive apartments and select restaurants, but it wasn’t always so…

The establishment dates to around the year 1520 and was formerly nicknamed the ‘Devil’s Tavern’ due to it being frequented by pirates, cutthroats, smugglers and all-round blackguards!

A fire destroyed it sometime in the 1770’s, only the stone floor now pre-dates that, but it was rebuilt and renamed the ‘Prospect of Whitby’ after a collier boat that moored outside.

The pub has a spectacular outlook over the Thames and the views have been sketched by Turner and Whistler. An utterly random fact to come from my research is that the first fuchsia plant to arrive in England was sold at this pub in the 18th century!

Also not far away is Execution Dock where pirates were hanged…but that’s another story!

So, if you enjoy a romantic tale set in Regency London with a dangerous spy and a more dangerous governess, check out ‘A Governess Should Never… Lure a Spy.’

Motherlove By Jean Trounstine Book Spotlight!

MOTHERLOVE

By Jean Trounstine

Concord Free Press; March 21, 2024

About MOTHERLOVE

In MOTHERLOVE, acclaimed writer and social justice advocate Jean Trounstine turns her sharp eye on an often forgotten group–mothers of children who kill. With deft writing and deep empathy, Trounstine explores the stories of ten mothers, each struggling with the aftermath of murder.

While fictional, her characters are drawn from Trounstine’s decades of experience with prisoners and their families, making these stories all the more real, resonant, and unforgettable.

Advance Praise for MOTHERLOVE:

“In these gritty, moving, revealing stories, all of which are like jolts of electricity, Trounstine shows the human cost by revealing mothers who are brave, fierce, stubborn, full of hope and sometimes delusional. So incredibly moving, you’ll rethink everything you ever thought about our justice system.”

– Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of  Pictures of You and Days of Wonder

“In her extraordinary collection of short stories, Jean Trounstine gives voice to the women who dwell in the background of the criminal justice system—the mothers of criminal defendants who have taken another’s life. With each story, she uncovers the hope, strength and resilience of these women whose lives and dreams have been shattered by her child’s actions. Each character’s tenacity to simply go on in spite of challenging obstacles is inspiring. A touching and compelling read.”

– Richard A. Simons, First Justice, Berkshire MA Probate and Family Court

“How brilliantly, and how heartbreakingly, Trounstine makes real the articles we read too often in our local newspapers. Her stories capture, in ways I’ve never seen before, the passionate and profound truth; every murder involves the loss of two lives. As soon as you open Motherlove, you’ll know that nothing is more important than to keep reading.”

Margo Livesey, author of The Road from Belhaven
