Irish Lady by Jeanette Baker Review for Sourcebooks

Meghann McCarthy escaped the slums of Belfast to become a rich, successful attorney in London. Yet she can never quite banish Ireland from her heart, or forget Michael Devlin, the boy she once loved with a passion that nearly tore her apart. When Michael, a notorious Irish nationalist, becomes involved in a vicious court case, Meghann agrees to defend him. But even as she jeopardizes her hard-won success, she finds the true power and spirit of the Irish heritage she has too long denied...and the courage to face her love for Michael.

Jeanette Baker
Jeanette Baker is the award-winning author of fifteen novels, published by Pocket, Kensington and Mira Books, many of them set in the lush countryside of historical and contemporary Ireland where she lives and writes during the summer months. Her ancestors, the O’Flahertys, hail from Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands located off the coast of Galway. She takes great pride in the prayer posted by the English over the ancient city gates, 'From the wrath of the O'Flahertys, may the good Lord deliver us.'
Jeanette graduated from the University of California at Irvine and holds a Masters Degree in Education.  For the remainder of the year, she teaches in Southern California, reads constantly, attempts to navigate the confusing world of Facebook and, more recently e-publishing, concocts creations from interesting cook books and enjoys the company of friends and her grown children. She is the RITA award-winning author of NELL.
My Thoughts:
I love Jeanette Baker's books, not only is she the author of Irish Lady, she has also written Legacy, Catriona and The Delaney Woman plus many more. a lot of Ms.Baker's books have a supernatural element to them, specifically going back to another time, usually in the form of an ancestor. The books are also very historical this one taking place in the early 1990's during the Irish political climate of the time and the 16c around the "flight of the earls". Irish Lady is about a woman, Meghann McCarthy,  who as a lawyer is going to defend Michael Devlin, a friend from childhood and a former IRA soldier, who is accused of murder. With dreams and visions of Nuala O'Donnel, an ancestor, Meghann finds the strength in her to not only defend Michael but find the love that she ran away from to marry an Englishman. Full of historical background in both era's, Irish Lady is a wonderful read. If you want to learn about the troubles that Ireland has faced over the centuries, this book will help you learn. I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend this and other works by Jeanette Baker.
I received this ebook from Sourcebooks, through NetGalley and was not monetarily compensated for my review.
