Night Sky by Jolene Perry Interview for Tribute Books

I am pleased to be part of the Night Sky by Jolene Perry's Blog Tour with Tribute Books

So Jolene, tell me about your book. How did you come up with the idea?
The idea came from a bad ending - what happens when the guy DOESN'T get the girl he wants? And once Jameson's voice was in my head, he wouldn't shut up, lol.
How did you get interested in writing this particular genre ?
I taught high school, and read a lot of YA. I tried to write women's fiction first, but once I wrote one YA, I was hooked.
What kind of research did you do for this book?
Just a little. I lived in Vegas for a while, so that part was easy. My mom grew up in Southeast Alaska where the Tlingit people are from, so I was already familiar with the cultural aspects of Sky. Also - to teach school in Alaska, you have to take the History of Alaska, and we were given more info than I'd know what to do with from there.
What's a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
Goals cause anxiety for me, lol. I write as much as I can every day. Most days. More often I have to say - Okay, you've written 4K today, let it go...
I take my laptop everywhere so I write in my car, on my couch, on the floor, in my cozy chair, at the kitchen counter... you get the idea.
What is the hardest part of writing for you?
Getting over the idea that I just might not be good enough. With writing comes HUGE ups and downs. I go from -THIS IS THE BEST STORY EVER!! to - NO ONE WILL CARE THIS IS CRAP!! overnight. So, it's hard to remember that we go through this, and to let the downs roll off you, and hold onto the highs as long as possible.
What’s the best thing about being an author?
I'm going to cheat. TWO things. One - my hobby is also my job. Seriously. Awesome. And two - when people really, REALLY get my characters. When I read in a review and realize that the world around these people I've created has brought other people in - best feeling ever..
What are you working on now?
I'm always working on a million projects. I have three books on submission to publishing houses - Used To Be - a love story about a very young guy who wanted to make the military his career, but lost an arm, and is now looking at a life that he never considered, and then he meets this odd, honesty-blurting girl, and they provide great distraction for each other until... you'll have to read it ;-D The Happiness of Joy is about a girl who grew up in an incredibly abusive household and is now with an awesome family, but has no idea how to survive in "normal" and then I wrote a collaboration with Nyrae Dawn (who has a GREAT book out now called What A Boy Wants) called Misplaced - it's a love story between the drummer of a band, and a girl who plays hockey. You can imagine how fun that was to write :-D

This has been a blast! Thanks so much!

~ Jolene

Night Sky Summary
After losing Sarah, the friend he’s loved, to some other guy, Jameson meets Sky. Her Native American roots, fluid movements, and need for brutal honesty become addictive fast. This is good. Jameson needs distraction – his dad leaves for another woman, his mom’s walking around like a zombie, and Sarah’s new boyfriend can’t keep his hands off of her.
As he spends time with Sky and learns about her village, her totems, and her friends with drums - she's way more than distraction. Jameson's falling for her fast.
But Sky’s need for honesty somehow doesn’t extend to her life story – and Jameson just may need more than his new girl to keep him distracted from the disaster of his senior year
