My husband and his baby... |
I usually do not do these types of posts, but this one is a bit different. On July 19th, this year, which was also my birthday, we found out my husband had colon cancer. Since then he has undergone the surgery to remove a foot of his colon, recovery was a bit slow at first and he is still sore at the incision site. Last week he started his first chemo treatment, Folfax, in which he has a treatment every two weeks for the next 6 months. The type of treatment he is getting, if he suffers from any side effects at all, will be a progressive thing. One of the better known side effects with this type of cancer treatment is fatigue so as more treatments go by the more tired he will get. His surgery was successful in that they think they got all the cancer, so the chemo is a preventative measure, just in case there are some of those nasty little cancer cells hiding somewhere.
We have had a great support system, our children, my sister and our niece have all hung in there for us. I love them all so much.
We have had a tremendous amount of prayers from Tommy's coworkers, customers where he works, his boss plus I have received numerous get well wishes from authors, bloggers, publicists and book blog tour hosts that I deal with on a daily basis..I sincerely thank each and every one of you. The blogging community is truly awesome and I count myself fortunate to be part of it.
Sooo...a serious point of this email is, if you or anyone you know is over the age of 50 or is told by your doctor that you need to have a colonoscopy, please do so. It can truly save your life. It is so much easier then going through what we are going through now.
I also want to thank the doctors who caught this issue, there were absolutely no symptoms.
I do not know what I would do without my soulmate in my life, we just celebrated 30 years of marriage and hope to have many more.
