Tristis Manor by J.R.Wagner Review for JKS Communications

Margaret lives in a constant state of fear. Fear of her mother, whose constant state of anger and unwillingness to speak of Margaret’s past have long since pushed Margaret away. Fear of disappointing her father should he ever discover the events of that day. Most of all, Margaret lives in fear of her abuser’s return. Margaret turns to self-harm to cope with her pain and fear. Only when her self-inflicted injuries bring her near death does she realize she has the power and the support from an unlikely place to stand up to her fears and believe in herself again.
Tristis Manor is a novella from The Never Chronicles, an epic fantasy series.
J.R. Wagner will be supporting the wonderful charity RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) with book sales made between March 20 – July 20, so please help spread the word!

My Thoughts:
Tristis Manor is a novella who's main character is Margaret, who lives in fear of her mother, who is verbally and physically abusive to her. A story that has Margaret hurting herself and embarassed because she is still wetting the bed at her age, ever since the 'incident', as she calls it. I figured out what the incident was early in the story and felt so bad for what she has to deal with and then when her mother has another child, I applauded Margaret for wanting to protect her little sister from the cruelty that is Margaret's every day life. There is a lot of story packed into 97 pages with an ending that I never saw coming but it was the right outcome I think. Physical, emotional and mental cruelty is never right but it seems to be more heartbreaking when it is a child that is abused in such a cruel and heartless manner. I applaud the author for writing about this topic in a sensitive way.
I received a copy of this novella for review and was not monetarily compensated for my review.
