Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

Synopsis:

This moody and arresting thriller is perfect for fans of Tana French. On a beautiful, eerily quiet May morning, a girl is found brutally bludgeoned to death. When Detective Marjory Fleming arrives, the silence of the scene is broken only by the ringing of the girl's cell phone. The nearby community is small and close-knit, but the veneer of contented prosperity conceals nasty secrets and deep betrayals. When another corpse is discovered, Fleming quickly realizes she must watch her own back while she searches for the link between the murders. As she uncovers layer upon layer of intrigue and deceit, it becomes apparent that, while the dead can't tell lies, the living most certainly can.

Read an excerpt:

The wind had dropped with the sunrise. It was a beautiful May morning, with the soft, pearly light so typical of the south-west corner of Scotland, but it was cool still; vapour clung to the tops of the trees and there was a sweet, damp, earthy smell after a heavy dew. He got up to have a chilly shower – he must see if something couldn’t be done about the hot-water supply – then dressed in his working jeans and checked shirt and went down the rickety staircase and across the living room to open the door. The wooden shack, his home since he was freed on licence six months ago, had walls weathered by time and the elements to a soft silvery grey. It stood in a clearing surrounded by rough grass studded with the stumps of felled trees, crumbling and mossy now. Beyond that, a tangle of undergrowth formed a natural enclosure: at this time of year the grass had feathery seed heads and the creamy flowers of hawthorn and cow parsley gleamed against the lush dark green of nettles and docks. From a snarl of brambles, a robin was shouting a melodious challenge to all comers. Sitting down on the dilapidated bench outside the back door, he drank in the peace and freedom which remained a novelty still.

My Review:

Lying Dead is the second Marjory Fleming novel that I have read. It is a well written suspenseful addition to the series. A woman is found not far from a man's house, unfortunately for him he knows the woman intimately. He just got out of prison and gets scared and does something that will haunt him. Moves the body.
Another body is found and now there are numerous suspects and Detective Fleming is pressured to find the killer or killers. A lot of people in this small town are suspect and it is up to Detective Fleming and her team to figure out who and what the motive is.

This is a mystery series not to be missed. The author weaves a suspenseful tale of love, lust and lots of secrets that will have you wanting more. Not only are there lots of suspects to the murders but Marjory is in danger herself from vengeful people that are close to her in her work and private life. This is a novel that just keeps getting more mysterious as the pages turn. Never saw the ending coming. I love the author's style of writing and I will certainly read more of her work.

I received a copy of the book for review and was not monetarily compensated for my review.
