After her FBI agent boyfriend, Alex, disappears while working a case involving a notorious Latin gangster, Vincent Estavez, the Department of Defense is forced to change tactics. Determined to bring down Estavez and the illegal online casino crime ring he’s been running by any means necessary, the FBI orchestrates an operation to infiltrate the gangster’s stronghold.

But Sydney only has one motivation for her own investigation: find Alex before he becomes collateral damage.

Desperate to locate her boyfriend in time, she flies to Costa Rica and is forced to seek help from an unlikely ally: her criminal ex-husband, Jack. He may be the last person she wants to see, but she’ll do whatever it takes to find Alex alive.

Excerpt

“We have to go, now. I’ll explain everything on the way,” said Jack as he stood facing his brother.

Ethan was still sitting on the worn leather couch inside the safe house he’d selected after his rescue. He planted his feet firmly on the ground. The glare from his eyes bore a hole in Jack’s chest.

“I told you before, Jack, I’m not going anywhere with you.” Ethan sat deeper into his seat. “I made a deal with the FBI, which you possibly just ruined by picking me up.”

“I didn’t pick you up, Ethan. I rescued you from prison.” He rubbed his shoulder. “Even after you shot me last year.”

Jack had heard of people becoming institutionalized, but he didn’t think his brother would ever want to stay in a place like that, no matter how much his actions warranted some kind of punishment. No, he was probably just angry about the way everything played out. Jack’s pretending to be dead from the crash was a little nasty, especially when it came to his brother, but it was necessary at the time. At least, Jack thought so.

It appeared Ethan didn’t feel the same way.

“Maybe I didn’t want to be rescued.” Ethan crossed his arms as he spoke. He turned his gaze away from Jack and out the log-framed window.

Jack threw his hands up in the air and began pacing.

The similarities in their physical appearance were unmistakable; both stood just over six-foot tall, with broad shoulders, chocolate-colored eyes, and wavy brown hair. Every feature matched since birth. They would always be twins from the outside.

What was happening inside was quite different.

Ethan’s mindset had taken a severe departure from his own over the last few years. From what he knew, Ethan had been planning to murder Marissa after they were married. Though it’s not why he was in jail. It was madness. As if something inside of his brother had snapped.

The knowledge made him uneasy.

But he’s still my brother.
