Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

England, 1820 Rosalind Newbury is counting down the days until her wedding to the Duke of Marlow, a man she has only met twice, and she knows exactly how she wants to spend her time. As a child, Ros created a list of ten things to do before her wedding day. So far, she has done none of them.

She is determined to tackle each item, though she’ll have to accomplish them all in secret. After all, a soon-to-be-duchess is not usually allowed to bury treasure in the pasture, eat sweets all day, or learn how to swim. She enlists the help of her best friend, Liza, who brings along her cousin, Charlie, a prodigal son-turned-boxer who has come to the countryside to mend his reputation and learn how to be his father’s heir.

Together, the three of them work to complete the list, and as each item is crossed off, an unlikely friendship blossoms between Ros and Charlie. The more time they spend together, the more Ros falls in love with this imperfect man and his good heart. With the wedding looming, Ros must decide to either admit her romantic feelings for Charlie and risk her family’s future or keep her promise to marry the duke and start a new life as a noblewoman.

MEGAN WALKER was raised on a berry farm in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where her imagination took her to times past and worlds away. While earning her degree in Early Childhood Education, she married her one true love and started a family. But her imaginings of Regency England wouldn’t leave her alone, so she picked up a pen. And the rest is history. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her husband and three children.

Advance Praise: “Walker dazzles readers with a wonderfully surprising Regency romance about self-discovery and following one’s dreams to new beginnings. The fresh premise is an immediate hit, and the exquisitely paced plotline strikes a satisfying balance between pursuit and reflection for its delightful characters. The chemistry between the always proper Rosalind and Charlie positively glows with yearning. It is a resounding success for Walker, whose talent for emotional intricacy and smart wit elevate the standard of excellence in the genre.” —Booklist, starred review

“Their romance is both daring and restrained. Miss Newbury’s List is a gentle, moving, romance novel that’s inspired by kindred companionship and crossroad reckonings.” —Foreword Reviews

“Delightful Regency. Walker’s latest sparkles with sweet romantic moments as Rose defies societal and familiar expectations in the name of love. This is a treat.” —Publishers Weekly

My Thoughts

Miss Newbury's List by Megan Walker is a fun, quick clean read. In 1820 Rosalind, Ros, Newbury is engaged to be married in 5 short weeks. Pretty much a marriage of convenience to a duke. The convenient part is that she will become a duchess, the first in the family and it will elevate her brother's standing.

But first, Ros has a list of things she wants to accomplish, a bucket list if you will, of things that she thinks she should learn or do. She made this list at the suggestion of an aunt, when Ros was 12. Do some of the things on the list still pertain to now, in Ros's mind they do. She enlists the aid of her good friend Liza and Liza's cousin Charlie Winston.

Charlie is not really a ne'er do well but has not settled down yet to the consternation of his parents. Charlie is all too happy to help Ros with her list. So, the adventures begin! The list contains 10 things that Ros wants to do i.e., learn to swim, where she almost drowns, Charlie to the rescue. The pair spend a lot of time together, Liza is beside herself to keep the two of them out of trouble.

A romance between Charlie and Ros is blooming, making Ros rethink her wish to marry the Duke of Marlow. There seems nothing in the relationship that she wants aside from a strip of land that her father owns, that the duke wants, there isn't much else to think that she could be happy in this marriage.

This book is clean, funny, and a joy to read. I usually like a book to have a bit more meat to it, but I found that I did enjoy this one, had me hoping for the best for Ros and Charlie! I give it 5 stars!

I received a copy of the book for review purposes.
