First two books in the Jack Slaughter Series
My Thoughts
Slaughterhouse by KA Lugo is the third book in the Jack Slaughter series. I have read the first two and was excited to read this continuing story of Jack Slaughter with the setting in San Francisco.
Jack's daughter was murdered and his wife is missing it has taken a toll on Jack but he will still look for his wife, hoping she is still alive, and whoever it was that killed his daughter and also their dog...
Jack is a decorated ex-cop and now a PI and the story starts with Jack completing suicide as he is having a hard time not knowing where his wife could be. Is she still alive? Maybe and that is the hope he has.
Jack's best friend is Ray, along with Ray's wife they help him cope with the tragedy that haunts him still. They keep him grounded and just be that awesome friend everyone should have.
Upon returning home one evening he finds a dead body in his home. Who is it and why is he there? He had left a note that said I'm sorry. Sorry for what? Is he the one who killed his daughter and dog? That is what Jack and Ray try to figure it out. In the meantime, they become embroiled in the Chinese mob, The Jade Dragons, and Jack finds himself and Ray in great danger. The leader of the gang, Li Zihao, just may know where Jack's wife Leah is.
I found that when reading these three books the storyline is a compelling read. The author holds nothing back and the reader gets the feel of San Francisco and its underbelly of crime. The descriptions of the city come from the fact that that is where the author is from. I did like the relationship between Jack, Ray, and Ray's wife.
This is a gritty series, not for the faint of heart. Series that I am looking for the next installment that will maybe let the reader know where Leah is. Alive or dead, whichever it may be, Jack needs closure.
I give this book 5 stars for its originality and of course the writing!
I was given a copy of the book by the author and was not monetarily compensated for said review.
