He stared at his pile of papers and it will forever be a mystery left unsolved whether RD was sorting out the details of the case, thinking about how much paperwork he had to do, or was contemplating how little brainpower he could actually muster.

Nevertheless, he was awoken by an oink from Vermouth and shook his head. “Well, that’s all fine and dandy, but the only thing that interests me is the victim’s wife having an affair with this jockey you met. I hardly, if ever, go to the track, definitely haven’t been there in the last couple of years. So who knows how many people know about what’s going on between those two?

She claims he knew about the affair and he was angry, but not physically violent, right? That she was going to end it soon anyway and that this lover of hers was the one developing feelings for her. And you said so yourself that the victim ripped the nametag off her uniform and put it in his pocket. Well, I got information to share with both of you. The fingerprint analysis came back on her nametag. Only the victim’s and the wife’s. So hear me out, this is my theory – She realizes it’s only a matter of time before he finds out about the affair. She panics when he does find out and they have a whole screaming match. She takes some sort of spike object, which is what forensics has concluded must be the murder weapon, and in a moment of fear and hysteria, kills him. She immediately realizes she has to come up with a story so she subtly puts the blame on the jockey, implying he’s an aggressive person, even stating him to be a territorial man. She rips her nametag off and places it in her husband’s dead hand before discarding of the body. Leaves it there for us to find and now she can show they had a fight and were upset.

The jockey’s alibi and hers don’t line up, so she makes it look like she’s covering for him. She works at the hotel, so as a concierge she must somehow have access to the garbage there. She breaks the stake into smaller pieces and disposes of it down a chute or maybe multiple ones. It would be like needles in a trash stack

trying to find the murder weapon and piecing them together. It’s a brilliant ploy, but I see right through it.”

Footsteps could be heard down the hall, peppered with some light chatter and someone in the next room had just turned a fan on, its sudden hefty whir brought down to a lower setting. Whisky and Sebastian stared at one another before looking down to Vermouth who stared at both of them. All three looked to RD.

“It’s certainly possible. And I appreciate your offering that theory, but I don’t think that’s what happened. That isn’t to say I’m excluding the wife as a suspect; I’m not, but there are other leads shown in all of these facts that we must explore.”
