Three years have passed since Baron Reen’s trial. A terrible accident on the island of his exile has transformed him into a nightmarish scarecrow creature with dark, mysterious powers. Sullyan is tasked with investigating Reen’s suicide. The missing body and a series of disasters in Port Loxton—a vicious murder, a brutal ambush, and a devastating fire—raise suspicions in her mind. Snippet:
He spoke soothingly. “I didn’t say I condoned it, daughter, and you know I never wanted to see you separated from Eadan and Seline. It’s just that . . . Sofira, are you absolutely convinced Hezra is sane?”
Sofira froze. She stared at her father, a biting retort on her lips. But then she realized he was only trying to protect her, clumsy though he was. She relaxed her spine and smiled.
“Oh, Father, of course I’m sure. Do you think I wouldn’t know if something had affected his mind? It’s a clever ruse, a ploy he’s devised to make them relax their vigilance. Didn’t you read his letters? Didn’t you feel the sincerity in his words, his deep desire to restore all I’ve lost? And don’t forget, my restoration will also benefit you. You’ll be more than recompensed for your trouble and the support you continue to give us. We’ll not forget you or Bordenn when I am once again Albia’s High Queen.”
Lerric doubted that. He had seen the light of fanaticism in the scarecrow’s eyes, the driving desire to control, the fervid lust for revenge at any cost. Reen might be willing to accept the title of consort for now, but Lerric would not bet much on him being happy with a supporting role for long, not once the reins of power were in his hands. Sofira was clearly already under his spell. He had cunningly charmed her from within his prison, writing her words of contrition, loyalty, and love. In her beleaguered state of angry, lonely sorrow, brought on by the conditions Elias had imposed on her, she had been easy prey.

Lerric shivered. Why should that word—prey—cause his heart to constrict? Why did it conjure images of ragged carrion birds feasting on a corpse?

Death Takes a Holiday at Pemberly by Kelly Miller Book Review!

What will the master of Pemberley do when confronted with the mercurial whims of an all-powerful angel?

Fitzwilliam Darcy’s well-ordered life is about to become a chaotic nightmare. A man of fortune, property, and social prominence, he has everything he could desire. Blissfully married to his wife, Elizabeth, they have a two-year-old son. With so much to live for, Darcy is shaken by a near-fatal riding accident. After a miraculous escape, he is visited by an otherworldly being: an angel of death named Graham. Threatening dire consequences, Graham compels Darcy to guide him on a sojourn in the world of mortals.

Darcy immediately questions the angel’s motives when he demands to be a guest at Pemberley. Can he trust Graham’s assurance that no harm will come to his wife and child? And why does Graham insist on spending time with Elizabeth? How can Darcy possibly protect his family from an angel with power over life and death?

In this romantic fantasy, the beloved couple from Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice must contend with both human and unearthly challenges. Are the fates against them? Or will their extraordinary love conquer all?

When not writing, Kelly Miller spends her free time singing, playing the piano, reading, and working out. Like a much loved Jane Austen character, she is an excellent walker, sometimes to the chagrin of her walking partners. She lives in Silicon Valley with her husband, daughter, and their many pets.

My Review
Death Takes a Holiday at Pemberly by Kelly Miller is a takeoff on Pride and Prejudice featuring Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. They have been married for 3 years and have a delightful little boy, Bennet.
This story is of Darcy escaping death in an almost riding accident. He feels himself falling but all of a sudden he is not, a little dizzy but ok. After this happens he is visited by an angel called Mr.Graham, an extremely handsome man who tells Darcy that he is the angel of death. He wants to spend time with Darcy and Elizabeth for a week, after that time he will decide what to do about Darcy's death.
He wants to spend time with Darcy and Elizabeth to find out about their happiness. Why is he so content and happy in his marriage? The characters, include  Elizabeth's sisters to Darcy's aged aunt Lady Catherine who is a real piece of work. She is angry and unhappy and is bound and determined to undermine Darcy and break up his marriage. She is angry and wants Elizabeth to suffer as she thinks that Elizabeth kept Darcy from marrying her daughter Anne.
With Darcy consumed by his probable death, in his mind anyway, and Lady Catherine's nasty machinations to break up his marriage this story takes the tale of the characters of Pride and Prejudice a step in the fantasy world. Mr.Graham is a seer and by touching a persons body, he can see into their future.
There is a birthday party planned for Elizabeth and her son Bennet. Hard to keep things secret but Darcy is able to do that. But he is still consumed with his death and prepares for that event.
I have read my share of books that stem from the original Pride and Prejudice. They are clean, sweet romantic stories with interesting characters and this book is no exception. The fantasy aspect takes it to a different level. I did enjoy it and found that I did not like Lady Catherine though,  but the ending made me feel better about her hatred, well  that I could understand why she is so hateful. Elizabeth, of course, is a kind woman, Darcy is the perfect gentleman.
If you like any stories that are like Pride and Prejudice, this book is one you should read.
I received a copy of this book for review purposes only

Illuminati Ball by Cynthia von Buhler Book Tour and Review!

THE ILLUMINATI BALL
Creator: Cynthia von Buhler
Publisher: Titan Comics
Hardcover, $29.99, £24.99
On sale: October 15, 2019
ISBN: 9781787732216

Cynthia von Buhler, acclaimed author and visual artist of Minky Woodcock: The Girl Who Handcuffed Houdini, brings her immersive theater production The Illuminati Ball to Graphic Novel form.

The Illuminati Ball merges the myth and mystery surrounding the secret organization of the rich and powerful who supposedly control the world with a story about human-animal hybrids who have escaped an experimental lab. Inspired by the legendary 1972 surrealist masquerade party that influenced Stanley Kubrick's film Eyes Wide Shut -- hosted by the Baron and Baroness de Rothschild at their mansion in Paris -- The Illuminati Ball combines elements of the fantastical with reality to tell an unforgettable story about power, cruelty, deceit, betrayal, and the insatiable hunger for freedom.

Cynthia von Buhler, aka Countess von Buhler, is an American artist, performer, playwright and author. Hailed by the press as “multitalented and eccentric” (Boston Globe), a “rising star” (NY Arts), and “one of the top contemporary surrealists” (Art & Antiques), Cynthia von Buhler has made a name for herself as an award-winning and critically acclaimed fine artist, author, and illustrator. Her illustration work has won awards from the Society of Illustrators and has repeatedly appeared in American Illustration, Communication Arts and the Society of Illustrator annuals of the best illustration in America. Von Buhler's stunning, three-dimensional paintings have been displayed in galleries and museums around the world, and have been featured in books, newspapers and magazines from Rolling Stone to The New Yorker. The New York Times has written four features on her in the last five years. Von Buhler has collaborated on art projects with Steven Spielberg, Neil Gaiman and Clive Barker. She has illustrated book covers for Harry Turtledove, Scott O’Dell, Jane Yolen, Elizabeth George Speare and Lawrence Block. Her sculptures have appeared on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, she and her work were profiled in Mary Magdalen: An Intimate Portrait on the Lifetime Network, and she was a recurring character on Discovery Channel’s Oddities. Von Buhler also writes, directs and produces immersive theater. In writing about her theater productions, Forbes called her “a creative genius” and the New York Post wrote, “Von Buhler has the kind of family footnote any writer would kill for.” Von Buhler was the lead singer in two seminal Boston bands, The Women of Sodom and Countess, the latter garnering her a development deal with MCA Records. Her comic work includes Evelyn Evelyn: A Terrible Tale in Two Tomes with Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley, An Evening with Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer, Speakeasy Dollhouse: The Bloody Beginning and Emily and The Strangers.

My Review
The Illuminati Ball by Cynthia von Buhler is a graphic novel featuring the Illuminati Ball that caters to the rich and powerful and is a secret organization that controls the world with human-animal hybrids that have escaped. A fantasy tale of power, cruelty, deceit, it also shows the reader the history and science.
I read and enjoyed Minky Woodcock: The Girl Who Handcuffed Houdini another great graphic novel by the author. The author's illustrations are impressive and wonderful. I loved the Illuminati Ball because of the illustrations and the storyline which was quite a fantasy and sinister adventure. Note: this is a graphic novel for adults, not for children as it is pretty graphic.
I don't often read graphic novels but whenever I am offered a book by her, I can't wait to read it. I love the illustrations that are beautiful stunning! The storyline was definitely scientific in nature which was ok, have to think outside the box!

If you love a graphic novel, then this one is one you do not want to miss!

Autumn Halloween Countdown Blitz 2019 and Giveaway!

Kristina Seek's debut novel, The Hashtag Hunt, was published in 2018. She is a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte and a member of Romance Writers of America. In March of 2019, she quit her day job to focus on a career in writing.

Kristina lives in North Carolina with her husband and son. She cherishes time with her friends and family, loves traveling to new destinations, and plans to cross many other items off her bucket list.

The only reason Lauren entered the Hashtag Hunt was for the $10,000 grand prize. She needed seed money for her startup, and it sounded easy enough: twelve hours to text twelve photos to someone called the Wizard.

For hashtag number five, Lauren needs a #HottieInTheWild, and with the help of her best friend, Ivy, she finds the perfect subject.

The only reason Brenner entered Barkley’s Pub was to have beers with Scott, an Army brother back in town. The reunion is interrupted when a woman is caught crouched in a dark corner, taking pictures of Brenner.

Lauren explains, and though embarrassed, she accepts Scott and Brenner’s offer to help with hashtag number six. While hunting for hashtags, Lauren finds adventure and romance with her #Hottie, but she must stay focused to beat the clock and win the cash.

Snippet:
Scott opened Ivy’s door and leaned into the backseat of the cab. “Lauren, I know it’s not a shortcut if it takes twice as long to get there, but I’m going to need one more minute.”
“Take your time.” In the rearview mirror, Brenner saw Lauren smile as she turned her head to look out her window. “Make it count.”
Brenner and Lauren pretended they didn’t hear their friends’ first kiss or Scott’s words after it was over. “I don’t know where you came from, but now you’re here… God, Ivy. It’s like when stars are born after gravity and pressure squeeze atoms until they break apart, and suddenly there’s enough light and heat to sustain life.”
“I don’t follow, but you had me after ‘when stars are born.’”
“Look up at the stars for a second.”
Brenner knew Scott was talking to Ivy, but it didn’t stop him from looking at the night sky. He didn’t check to see, but he imagined Lauren was also gazing up out her window.
“Fast Astronomy 101 lesson: darkness can get so dense and deep it changes everything. Atoms. People. Families. Countries. With enough pressure, the only place energy can go is outward and upward.”
The truck was quiet for a moment before Ivy spoke. “I understand darkness and pressure changing things. But then where does the light come from?”
“Interstellar clouds. Watch this, guys.”
Brenner turned to watch Scott through Ivy’s door. A quick peek in his rearview mirror revealed Lauren had also turned to look. Scott pointed with his index finger and moved it in a full oval shape. “Let’s say the cloud starts off this big. It swirls around because of gravity.” Scott moved his finger, and the oval got smaller with each trip toward his shirt. “Gravity makes the cloud close in on itself as it turns.” The oval he was making became so small, only the tip of his finger twirled in a tight circle. “When it’s compact and dense enough, a nuclear reaction occurs.” Scott curled his finger into his palm and made a fist. “The reaction produces heat and light, and a star is born.” He popped his fist open and spread his fingers wide. “Basically like a furnace.”
Scott opened his door and sat in the passenger seat. When he fastened his seat belt, he looked at Brenner. “Wyatt said to follow this road until we reach the pond. There’ll be a fork in the road, and we go left.”
Brenner gave Scott the side-eye as he started the engine and put the truck in gear.
“What?” Scott shifted in his seat to face Brenner. “I am wooing my special lady friend. And it’s a solid metaphor if I do say so myself.” Scott twisted further to look at Ivy. “You liked it, right, Sweets?”
“Loved it. Nobody’s ever compared me to a nuclear reaction before.”
“Shameful.” Scott winked at Ivy. “And there’s more where that came from.”
