When Maddie Springer—shoe designer turned amateur sleuth—tags along with her mother to the Antiques Extravaganza road show, the last thing she expects to have to do is pull her mom off of a celebrity appraiser after he calls her prized antique hatpin a phony. But things go from harried to homicide when the same appraiser is found dead just moments later—killed by Mom's hatpin!
Now not even Maddie's husband, LAPD Detective Jack Ramirez, can save Mom as the force's two most bumbling detectives are assigned to the case. As if Maddie doesn't have enough on her plate, her best friends, Dana and Marco, enlist her help to plan the most over-the-top Hollywood surprise party ever for Dana's fiancé (who has a little surprise of his own up his sleeve), Maddie's adorable twin toddlers are always up to no good, and the only thing that can calm her fashion-challenged and suddenly-a-suspect mom down are aura cleansing from her favorite Venice Beach psychic, Mrs. Rosenblatt. Whether they help or hurt, Maddie's friends assist her in wading through a slew of murder suspects—none of whom are telling the truth and all of whom have ample motive to want the appraiser dead. Was it the frigid business partner with questionable ethics? The clown-collecting fan-turned-stalker? The auction house owner with a grudge? Or was the appraiser's real business something much more sinister than his TV personality let on…and much more deadly?
Maddie and her eccentric gang of unlikely sleuths are under the gun to find out before the real killer strikes again…and Mom takes the fall!

His wife Elaine, who’s also in the hunt, gasps and nearly faints. But two other women on the scene cry out that their husband is dead.

FADE - The Ragnarök Prophesies: Book One A.K. Morgen Book Spotlight! FADE is only .99c on Amazon through November 10th!

What do you do when you realize nothing in your life is what you’ve believed it to be?

When Arionna Jacobs loses her mother in a tragic accident, her world is turned upside down. She’s forced to leave her old life behind and move in with her father. Dace Matthews, a teaching assistant at her new college, is torn in two, unable to communicate with the feral wolf caged inside him.

When they meet, everything they thought they knew about life unravels. Dace has intimate access to Arionna’s mind, and something deep within her fights to rise to the surface. They don't understand what's happening to them or why, and they're running out of time to sort out the strange occurrences around them.

Their meeting sets an ancient Norse prophesy of destruction in motion, and what destiny has in store for them is bigger than either could have ever imagined. Unless they learn to trust themselves and one another, they may never resolve the mystery surrounding who they are to one another, and what that means for the world.

FADE is only .99c on Amazon through November 10th!

Arionna.

I jumped as his voice sounded clear as bells in my head.
What are you doing? His mental voice was too calm. He'd heard my thoughts.
My face burned. I was trying to talk to you. I don't exactly know how to do it, I answered, defensive and mortified. I didn't mean to share those last thoughts with him, and like so much else, he'd received them anyway.
Again, it just wasn't fair.
I guess it worked. He sounded amused, though his tone seemed darker than usual, like when he kissed me. I stored that knowledge away for future use.
I don't know where Chelle lives.
You could have called.
Why? You never call me.
Would you like me to call you?
No. I had his attention now. Why bother with the phone? It didn't make sense. Still, would it kill him to pick up the phone once in a while, like normal people did, instead of always leaving me to do the calling?
I'm not normal people, Arionna.
How could one boy be so clueless?
Oh, forget it. Where does Chelle live?
Dace sighed then gave me her address.
I sat up straighter in the seat and put the car in drive, not even thanking him. Sue me, I wanted to sulk for a little while. Talking to him aggravated me. Things that should have been obvious were beyond him. He had no clue what a girl wanted. Ironic as hell since he got to know my every thought whenever the desire struck. Meanwhile, I muddled along, trying to sort out this person who made no sense half the time.
He didn't even tell me no, he wouldn't teach me how to figure out how to access his mind. He ignored the situation and acted like I didn't say anything the four thousand times I demanded to know how. And even worse than all of that? I still felt him in there, nestled into his little corner of my mind. I growled aloud.
Do you honestly think I'd take your virginity on a picnic table? His curious tone held more than a little hurt. Why not? I stopped at a red light. It's better than the back of a car. I couldn't hold back the snippy reply.
Dace sighed. When we do that, Arionna, it won't be on a picnic table in the middle of winter, or in the back of a car. And you won't regret it, not for a minute.
I didn't know how to respond to that, so I didn't try.
By the way, you're going the wrong way. Chelle lives on the other side of town, behind the grocery store.
"Ugh!" I yelled.

Read an Excerpt

“They were talking about how they’re using unknown models right now and I mentioned how awesome you were in the video and they agreed. We started talking and they wondered if you’d want to come to New York and do a shoot for the magazine. What do you think?” he asked.
I almost fell off my bed. Me? Model? I wasn’t pretty enough for that and everyone would write in to let them know that just like they all felt the need to voice that opinion in the online video comments.
“Wow, it’s…wow.”
“I know, right? And I’m here for a few weeks recording so we could see each other. My manager said he’d talk to your parents and work out the details. You’d be working just to get exposure, so the contract would be about rights and not money—is that cool? It’s a great way to get your name out there and stuff for your book.”
  “My book?”
“Your portfolio. You know, the photos people look at to decide whether or not they want to hire you for modeling jobs.”
Was I going to be modeling enough that I needed a book? Did this magazine actually want me? It sounded too good to be true—going to New York to model and be in a magazine while visiting my pop star boyfriend. Was this my life?
“I don’t know if my parents will go for it,” I said.
“Let my manager talk to them and see what magic he can work. He wants to help this magazine out, too. You want to do it though, right?”
Part of me did—the part of me that wanted a big life and to be famous and adored. The reality side of me was an anxious mess just thinking about flying out there though.
“Yeah, for sure,” I said hoping I sounded convincing.
“Great, give me your parents’ number and I’ll have my manager give them a call.”
I felt like I was having an out of body experience as I recited my mom’s cell phone number to him.
My entire life could change in a phone call.

The Accomplice by Joseph Kanon Book Spotlight!

From “master of the genre” (The Washington Post) Joseph Kanon, a heart-pounding and intelligent espionage novel about a Nazi war criminal who was supposed to be dead, the rogue CIA agent on his trail, and the beautiful woman connected to them both.

Seventeen years after the fall of the Third Reich, Max Weill has never forgotten the atrocities he saw as a prisoner at Auschwitz—nor the face of Dr. Otto Schramm, a camp doctor who worked with Mengele on appalling experiments and who sent Max’s family to the gas chambers. As the war came to a close, Schramm was one of the many high-ranking former-Nazi officers who managed to escape Germany for new lives in South America, where leaders like Argentina’s Juan Perón gave them safe harbor and new identities. With his life nearing its end, Max asks his nephew Aaron Wiley—an American CIA desk analyst—to complete the task Max never could: to track down Otto in Argentina, capture him, and bring him back to Germany to stand trial.

Unable to deny Max, Aaron travels to Buenos Aires and discovers a city where Nazis thrive in plain sight, mingling with Argentine high society. He ingratiates himself with Otto’s alluring but wounded daughter, whom he’s convinced is hiding her father. Enlisting the help of a German newspaper reporter, an Israeli agent, and the obliging CIA station chief in Buenos Aires, he hunts for Otto—a complicated monster, unexpectedly human but still capable of murder if cornered. Unable to distinguish allies from enemies, Aaron will ultimately have to discover not only Otto, but the boundaries of his own personal morality, how far he is prepared to go to render justice.

“With his remarkable emotional precision and mastery of tone” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review), Joseph Kanon crafts another compelling and unputdownable thriller that will keep you breathlessly turning the pages.

Goodreads

Joseph Kanon is the internationally bestselling author of nine novels, which have been published in twenty-four languages: Los Alamos, which won the Edgar Award for best first novel; The Good German, which was made into a film starring George Clooney and Cate Blanchett; The Prodigal Spy, Alibi, which earned Kanon the Hammett Award of the International Association of Crime Writers;  Leaving Berlin and The Defectors. He is also a recipient of The Anne Frank Human Writers Award for his writings on the aftermath of the Holocaust. Before becoming a full-time writer, he was a book publishing executive. He lives in New York City with his wife, literary agent Robin Straus. They have two sons.
