@lovingthebook A Chaotic Courtship by Bethany Swafford Book Release! With Giveaway!

We are so excited to have Bethany Swafford back for a tour for her amazing book. We had such a great response to her blitz and every so many reviews coming this week from people excited to read her wonderful book. Come join us on the journey!

For as long as she can remember, Bethany Swafford has loved reading books. That love of words extended to writing as she grew older and when it became more difficult to find a ‘clean’ book, she determined to write her own. Among her favorite authors is Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Georgette Heyer.

When she doesn’t have pen to paper (or fingertips to laptop keyboard), she can generally be found with a book in hand. In her spare time, Bethany reviews books for a book site called More Than A Review.

If Diana thought that it was difficult in London, courting takes on a whole new aspect when Diana's younger siblings become involved. She finds herself dealing with her own feelings, her sister, her younger brother, jealous members of a house party, a jilted suitor, and a highwayman as she falls in love with the charming Mr. Richfield.

“I thought you’d never get here!” Sarah said, ignoring my question completely as she spun to face me. I frowned at her as I put my outside garments away. She seemed highly agitated, a state which I had seldom seen her in. “Diana, I must speak with you!”
“About what?” I asked calmly.
Sarah took up pacing, and for a moment I believed she wasn’t going to continue with whatever she wanted to say. “You must listen to me for once in your life!” she finally said, as
though I had been disagreeable.
Sinking onto our bed, I tried to hide a smile. “Then come out and tell me what has you in such a state.”
“I think Mr. Richfield is the highwayman!”
My smile faded instantly as I stared at her. How had she come up with this ridiculous idea? “You what?” I asked in astonishment.
“There, I’ve said it!” Sarah collapsed into the chair at the dressing table. “I’ve considered the matter carefully, Diana, and as your sister, I could not let you become attached to such a black-hearted criminal!”
I couldn’t help but laugh in response to that absurd notion. “Blackhearted criminal? You cannot be serious, Sarah. I have never heard anything so outlandish. Have you been reading my novels?”
“Diana, I am being completely serious! Stop laughing!”
“How can I take you seriously when everything you say is utter nonsense? Why would you possibly think Mr. Richfield, a true gentleman if I’ve ever met one, is a common criminal?”
Sarah leaned forward, her eyes wide. “Don’t you remember what Aunt Forester said at dinner yesterday?” she asked, lowering her voice for some reason. She acted like she was about to disclose some deep secret to me, and I found myself leaning closer. “About the highwayman being around the Bath area?”
Thinking back, I did in fact remember the conversation and our aunt’s comment. “Yes, of course I remember. What about it?”
“Mr. Richfield was there!”
I failed to follow her line of reasoning. “I’m sure a great many people were in Bath at the same time, Sarah. Aunt and Uncle Forester, for example, were there for two months, I believe.”
Shaking her head, Sarah groaned. “Don’t be obtuse, Diana! You have to see the connection here. Mr. Richfield was in Bath when a highwayman terrorized innocent people. And now, he’s here, where a highwayman has mysteriously appeared to threaten our peaceful home!”

By Lynne Murray Genre: Paranormal Romance

Dragonette Verity signed a blood contract to accept a ring from the last man standing in the Dragon Planet Network's first reality TV dating show. But no sparks fly with any of the 26 dragon men competing for her hand. She escapes and stumbles into the arms of Ryan, a human who sets her heart on fire. Ryan falls for Verity. When she’s dragged back to finish the show, he sets out to win her. Can a mere human defeat those hulking, jealous shapeshifters?

Goodreads * Amazon

Chapter 1
The first night

“WILL you accept this nose ring?” Verity repeated it over and over under her breath as she stood on the paving stones of the castle courtyard. Twenty-six dragon shapeshifter suitors would soon arrive. The Earth reality TV videos showed human bachelors and bachelorettes handing out roses to those who would continue on the journey towards finding mates. But roses would confuse the dragon bachelors. In dragon form, they might eat the flowers, thorns and all and then belch fire. However, gold in any form got all the dragons’ attention big time.
Verity’s curves, prized on the Dragon Planet, were on ample display as she stood in her human form. She wore a sparkling ice-blue gown that matched her eyes. Her dress artfully molded to her in front, open nearly down to her waist and cut almost as low clinging to her backside, although her long black hair covered most of the skin revealed in back. Verity didn’t shiver from the cold, despite the thin fabric. Her dragon blood ran hot. Any trembling was completely due to nerves.
“Will you accept this nose ring?” she muttered again. It was a simple enough phase but she just might mess it up.
Torches burned in the courtyard in front of the quaint old castle. It was a historic site, not a working fortress, a confection of towers and spires perched on a remote mountainside. Lights from the village at the foot of the mountain twinkled in the darkness below. Verity would stay here for the next nine weeks.
Modern lighting illuminated the center of the courtyard where Verity would greet each bachelor dragon in turn as he arrived. Cameramen, sound crew and assistant producers circled around the edges of the courtyard. The whole planet was watching. Her every word and move were being recorded.
No pressure.
Tonight, Verity was The Dragonette, a bachelorette shapeshifter on a Journey to Love. She was also the Dragon King’s daughter. She stiffened her spine. She took a deep breath of the pine scented air carried by the breeze up from the forests below.
Each of the bachelor dragons would introduce himself as he arrived. The camera crew roamed around her, waiting for the men to arrive.
The king had summoned Verity to his throne room when he told her she would be the planet’s first Dragonette. King Harrenholtz was a big fan of reality television shows from Earth. The ruler of the Blood Claw Clan that dominated Planet Dragon had decided that a television show would promote mating in a planet with a dwindling shapeshifter population. The king’s closest councilor, his brother Cobravelos was in charge of making it happen.
“We’re gathering together the best of the best young dragons from every corner of the planet, Verity,” the king told her. “All in one place for you to choose from. It’s one-stop-shopping as they say on Earth. You’ll be able to start nesting immediately, and I hope to see those baby dragons soon.”
Verity had no answer to this.
No problem there, the king wasn’t expecting an answer. The king, tall and stately, his dark hair streaked with gray and his blue eyes still compelling even in middle age, was a hopeless romantic—when it suited his purposes.
“You should be the bachelor dragon yourself, brother,” Verity’s Aunt Tryspidania told the king. Gray-haired and flint eyed with a spine of steel, Aunt Tryspi was a genealogy freak who had traced the family trees of all the contestants.
The king didn’t mind a little flattery, but he waved the idea aside. “Your Aunt Tryspi tells me that these men all come from the best bloodlines,” he said. “Also, your uncle, who knows about these things, assures me that these men are all, as he says, ‘smoking hot.’”
Verity’s uncle Cobra was just as tall, blue-eyed and handsome as the king but much more fashionable. He was gay and the king trusted his opinions on which males were hot and which were not.
“We know your unusual interest in conversation and culture and—um, ideas, Verity,” The king’s tone indicated that these pursuits were useless at best, but he was willing to indulge her eccentric tastes.
“So we made sure to include some men who are artistic or...well, I don’t know, clever. These dragons are the best of the best. Your hatchlings will raise the intelligence level of the whole species. So enjoy the journey and find me a son-in-law.”
Like she had a choice.
Her relatives would be shocked to find that Verity had a secret plan. Simple, straightforward Verity, who everyone knew was pathetically bad at the basic dragon skill of planning and executing devious strategies. She didn’t have a detailed plan. More like the ghost of a hope. This dating show had thrown everything into chaos. She needed to stay alert and look for her chance.
She had tried once before to run away from her father’s castle and the fate of being chained to a nest for a life of egg laying like a prize hen. That attempt had ended in disaster. She wouldn’t let herself think about it. Her mind and body had been numb ever since.
The king was convinced that she had learned her lesson and wouldn’t try again. But Verity had grimly determined never to be in any dragon’s power ever again. She trusted no one to help. She wasn’t even sure she could do it. But Verity planned to watch for an opening to escape from her gilded cage before it was too late.

I was born in Illinois and grew up in transit. My father's work as a scientist working for the military and aerospace industry took us to Texas, Alaska, Washington state, and finally Southern California. I now live in San Francisco with a small group of formerly feral felines, who were all rescued and who daily return the favor.
I have written and directed a play, written dozens of articles for Buddhist publications and contributed humorous short pieces and interviews to both online and print magazines. My favorite, an interview of Darlene Cates, star of "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," is available here.
I started to write books with life-size heroines on the day I threw a book against the wall for having one fat joke too many. Since that turning point, I have published eight books featuring large, in-charge heroines, real life situations and genuine humor with no cruel jokes whatsoever. My mystery series featuring Josephine Fuller, Sleuth of Size who doesn't apologize, won the NAAFA Distinguished Achievement Award.

Snippet:

With his free hand, he brushed my cheekbone. The pounding of my heart against my ribs faltered when he bent down. His lips were inches from mine, his hand slid to the back of my neck.
I nearly dropped the bouquet on the floor.
Without any hesitation, I fell into his arms, pressing my lips against his. He held me close and kissed me softly. My heart hammered in my chest as I wrapped my arm around his neck. A thud sounded as he flattened me against the door and we continued to kiss. I had never experienced this level of passion before. Carson was firm, but gentle, urgent, yet slow and persistent, all at once. Whatever his lips asked of me, they were welcomed to.
When he pulled away, our breathing was ragged and sharp. I lowered my arms to my sides, closing my eyes. He took the opportunity to place a gentle kiss on my forehead.

My Thoughts
Zoe Whittaker has a life that most would envy, but it has not always been this way. Five years previous, she testified against some drug dealers and refused witness protection, and ended up on the run. She changed her name and identity. She becomes a new person and thought that the past was just that, the past.

The book starts out with Zoe in the present and with flashbacks we learn about her past and how she met and fell in love with her husband Henry. Her life is ideal and she continues on with being the loving wife but then things start to change. Zoe is also trying to find her biological mother and that takes her on a journey all it's own. As she learns more, things don't add up in her own life. That is when things get dangerous.

This book is a psychological thriller of which I love because you never know how it is going to end up and the ending often surprises you. I loved it and I do look forward to reading more by this new author!

I received a copy of this book for review purposes.

Between Two Worlds by Christy Santo Book Tour and Giveaway!

Between Two Worlds By Christy Santo Genre: Time Travel, Adventure

Rebecca dreams her present time and lives her past.
It is 2006 and Indiana University graduate student Rebecca Harrison attends a Halloween party. Unknown to her she will have her world turned upside down when she leaves it. An unexpected accident rips her from 2006 Indiana and abandons her in 1983 Fanwood, New Jersey her hometown. She struggles to relive the past and exist as another woman with the same name and birthday as her. Can she find a way to return to her present time or will her past become her future?

I am at a Halloween party - my first in years. I wear an early 19th-century style off-white summer dress, a matching hat and high-heeled suede shoes with buttons on the front. The party is inside of a house near Lincoln and Seventh streets in downtown Bloomington. It is so full of costumed IU students that it is terribly hot. Given my dress is meant for summer, I try to tolerate it, but can't. I go looking for my friend to tell her I am going to leave. After several minutes of searching, I start to feel faint and leave without seeing her. As I head down the front stairs of the house, I hear one of the front doors open. I turn to see a young man in jeans and plaid shirts, not a costume, come out. I turn back and continue down the stairs when suddenly I am bumped into and my feet lose traction on the stairs. My feet slide back and my body tips backward until my heels are completely off the step. I bend my legs at the knees as I attempt to twist to my right to grab the metal railing, instead my fingertips brush it. I feel a sharp pain in my ribs as they hit the edge of a step. Then the side of my head hits the concrete knocking me out. I do not come to for several moments. When I do, I feel my body sliding down the steps and every part of me being bumped all the way down. I keep blacking out and coming to all the while helpless to stop the fall. The whole thing feels like it is taking forever. I wish I could cry out to the man who caused the fall to stop this, but each hit on the steps keeps me from doing so. Finally it stops and the last thing I hear before I black out for a final time is the man apologizing profusely, and telling me not to worry, an ambulance is on the way.

I grew up in Fanwood, New Jersey. In 2002, I moved to Bloomington, Indiana. I split my time as a co-owner in my family's internet business and as a local insurance agent. Though I do enjoy my work and want to continue with it, I have always dreaming of being a writer. My first book Switching Stations, Switching Stories came out in 2013 and last year on June 15, 2014 my second book - a time travel story, Between Two Worlds came out. Currently I am developing a short story series for this site on life in space and my third book with a magic slant.
