Summer Countdown Blitz - Day 14!

C. Michelle Jefferies is a writer who believes that the way to examine our souls is to explore the deep and dark as well as the shallow. To manipulate words in a way that makes a person think and maybe even second guess. Her worlds include suspense, urban fantasy, and an occasional twist of steampunk. When she is not writing, she can be found on the yoga mat, hand binding journals, dyeing cloth, and serving ginger tea. The author and creator divides her time between stories, projects, and mothering four of her seven children on the wild and windy plains of Wyoming.

A PROPHET’S REDEMPTION

Living an unassuming life as a teacher for the Academy, th
e former assassin, Antony Danic, turned Speaker for the Devoted, would love to let the past stay there. However, as hard as he tries, his new identity, Noble Standing, can’t escape who Antony was. The widower, turned self-avowed bachelor doesn’t mean to fall for the red-headed sword instructor, Lyris Jaimes. Noble insists he’s better off single, but he is drawn to her in spite of his memories of Elite. Noble finds that courting her, however, isn’t easy. His interest in Lyris sets into motion a rivalry between him and a dangerous sociopath who wants her for himself.
Regardless of the vow he made to never shed human blood again, Noble must reconcile his past with his present, and use his assassin skills and knowledge to keep himself and those he loves alive.

SNIPPET #1
“My grandma left me money for school, Zach. The inheritance has to go for college, or I lose every dime. I’ve always planned to go. Even though I can’t take a baby and go away to a university like some of my friends, I wanna go somewhere. Community college. Something. A trade.” I wasn’t going to tell him I wanted an education because I never wanted to count on anyone, let alone a man, to support me. And I wasn’t alone anymore. I had a child to consider.
SNIPPET #2
I sniffed a disgusting amount of snot and then dug in my purse for another tissue.
“Calm down. I know, easier said than done. But you need to think of your child.”
Diane’s comments confirmed my biggest fears— being connected to the Mob had my life, and my child’s, in jeopardy.

Rise of the Sea Witch
Stacey Rourke
Publication date: June 2017
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Details of the sea witch’s banishment have been exaggerated. The body count that preempted it was not. Once an illustrious princess, her hands and tentacles were stained with the blood of thousands. No one could comprehend how the hooks of madness dragged her down from her life of privilege.
Born Princess Vanessa of Atlantica, the ambitious young royal was one of two children born to the great King Poseidon. She and her brother, Triton, were groomed from birth to rule. Yet only one would ascend that coveted throne. While carefree Triton flits through his training with a cavalier demeanor and beguiling charm, Vanessa’s hunger for her father’s acceptance drives her to push herself to the limits of magic, and combat to become a leader worthy of her people.
When war against the humans ravages their once regal kingdom, political sides are chosen. Factions from the seven seas challenge the existing leadership, pitting Vanessa against her brother in a vicious battle for the crown. Traitors are exposed, dark family secrets revealed, and a once strong sibling bond is strained to its breaking point.
Only when the ink black waters from the ultimate betrayal rescind, will the truth be known of how the villainous sea witch rose with one name on her vengeful lips–Triton.

Snippets
Snippet #1-
Trevor paced the length of the safe house. I’m going crazy—I have to get out of here. His cell phone pinged with a text message was from a phone number he didn’t recognize.
They’re on to you.
The text sent a tremor down Trevor’s spine. He went upstairs, removed his suitcase from the closet, and packed his clothes. Today, I take back my life.
------------------------
Snippet #2-
“I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to elude the authorities,” Trevor said quietly into his cell phone. He stared out the curtain of the hotel room. The green glow of the Vacancy sign flashed on his skin. “We had a close call this morning in Newberg.”
“How’s Dani holding up?” Don asked over the airwaves.
Through the door to the adjoining room, Trevor glanced at her still form on the bed. “She’s sleeping now. I don’t know why she believes in me, but I’m grateful she does.”

------------------------
Snippet #3-
A calm that spoke louder than rage enveloped Don Francisco. He seized a pen from his desk and grasped the writing instrument so hard his knuckles turned white. The quiet intensity of his voice could not hide his anger. “I want his name. He will learn what happens when he threatens my family.”
With a slight movement, Don Francisco snapped the pen in half. Red ink splattered like blood on his hands and clothes.
