About the Author

MJ Boshers is an author of fantasy and YA novels. The Faewitch is her first book in a three book series. Also as a songwriter she loves to add music to her novels whenever she can. Being from the South, she likes to add that part of her to her novels, along with the accents. She lives in Alabama with her husband and daughter and believes there is nothing more important than her family. A member of NAPW, she hopes to encourage young women to never give up on their dreams and that women can be powerful. Her studies in Graphic Design and photography help her stay focused on books even when she isn't reading or writing. Her hobbies include watching anything supernatural on television, hanging out with family and friends, music, and painting.

Excerpt

I wake up in a dirt cell by myself with my head bleeding pretty bad and I can hear screams coming from somewhere nearby. I hear another scream and it sounds familiar. I realize it is my mother and I jump up. "Leave her alone," I yell. "It's me you want, you coward. Here I am." The screaming stops and I see a figure walking toward my cell. At least my mother is okay, I hope. It is pretty dark so I can't see the man's face. He comes in my cell and picks me up over his shoulder. I scream and fight trying to get free, but it's no use because he it too strong. He throws me down by the fireplace and the room is lit up quite well now, so I look up to see his face. "No," I say in disbelief. "It can't be you."

Two guards immediately come and hold me down by the fireplace. I try to get free, but I know there is no use in trying. They hold my head to the side and I can feel the heat coming off the branding iron which he is about to brand me with. I scream because I know it’s about to touch my neck. As it touches my skin, I hear it sizzle. The pain is unbearable at first and then it just goes numb.

Interview with the author!

Tell us about your genre.  How did you come to choose it?  Why does it appeal to you?
My genre is urban fantasy and I chose this genre because it is so exciting. I love this genre because of the paranormal, supernatural, and magical elements it holds. I love the possibilities this genre can have and the emotions it can bring out of readers.

What do you find most challenging about the writing process, and how do you deal with it?
The most challenging about the writing process is the editing process such as trying to get all the details in order and the patience of it all. I deal with it the best I can by trusting my editor and realizing that I can always fix something later if I need to. It isn’t going to be carved into stone.

When and where do you do your writing?
I always write my first draft with pen and paper. I will write in my notebook whenever I get a chance and at night when my daughter goes to bed I will sit down at the computer and type it up. It is an all day, everyday process for me, but I love it.

What have you learned about promoting your books?
Promoting books is hard work. It takes a lot of time and patience. I’ve learned that social media is your best friend, hash-tag everything, don’t be afraid to be yourself (even if that self is weird), be patient, and ask for advice if needed.

What are you most proud of as a writer?
I am most proud of the work I have put in. I feel no matter how well the book does that I’ve succeeded because I’ve made my dream come true.

If you could have dinner with any writer, living or dead, who would it be and what would you talk about?
If I could have dinner with any writer it would definitely be JK Rowling. I would have to talk about Harry Potter and every single detail about the books, movies, and wardrobe. Oh…and butter beer.

The Way It Hurts by Author: Patty Blount Blog Tour and Giveaway!

In Patty Blount's THE WAY IT HURTS, two teens’ quest for fame goes terribly wrong when a single tweet goes viral and the online backlash follows them into real life. Fans of Gayle Forman's If I Stay will like how main characters Elijah and Kristen bond over their music in this edgy, real world contemporary young adult read that examines the impact social media has on the lives of today's youth.

Synopsis:

There may be two sides to every story, but sometimes there's only one way to set things right...

Music is Elijah's life. His band plays loud and hard, and he'll do anything to get them a big break. He needs that success to help take care of his sister, who has special needs. So he'd rather be practicing when his friends drag him to a musical in the next town...until the lead starts to sing.

Kristen dreams of a career on stage like her grandmother's. She knows she needs an edge to get into a competitive theater program--and being the star in her high school musical isn't going to cut it. The applause and the attention only encourage her to work harder.

Elijah can't take his eyes off of Kristen's performance, and snaps a photo of her in costume that he posts online with a comment that everybody misunderstands. It goes viral. Suddenly, Elijah and Kristen are in a new spotlight as the online backlash spins out of control. And the consequences are bigger than they both could have ever imagined because these threats don't stay online...they follow them into real life.

Advanced Praise for The Way It Hurts:

"Blount writes authentically; both protagonists’ voices are distinct. The author explores the rapidly consuming world of social media and how it affects relationships online and in real life. A relevant read and must-have for all YA collections." – School Library Journal

"THE WAY IT HURTS draws our attention to the joy, heartache and confusing contradictions that arise as we try to find our place in the real world and the virtual one." – Kimberly Sabatini

Elijah and Kristen’s personal evolutions through the novel, along with their chemistry, feel as authentic as the conflicts they face. A genuine plot filled with steady tension that will keep readers hooked.” RT Book Reviews

“This book sensitively covers topics such as sexism, handicapping conditions, communication, and ageism. Agency is also shown when Kristen says she wants to pursue studying in a conservatory rather than continue in the band and the three young men acknowledge her wish. Talking about what bothers us rather than trying to guess another person’s feelings is demonstrated through the actions of the characters. The characters’ issues are eventually resolved through hard work and understanding, making this an interesting and informative read." School Library Connection

Excerpt:

Elijah took my hands. “Okay, look. Maybe you’re right. Maybe these people are taking this whole battle thing way too seriously. If you’re scared, then we’ll stop. No more posts except for appearance information.”
“So no more battle of the sexes, no more make Kris scream?”
He held up his hand. “Swear to God.”
“Okay.” I sighed in relief. “You’d really do that?”
He leaned closer and repeated the vow. “I promise, Kris.”
And just like that, I forgot why I was mad at him. I couldn’t talk, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t even blink because I was afraid he’d let go. This was the part of him I adored. I clung to him for a long moment, and when his gaze drifted to my mouth, I wondered if—hoped—prayed—he’d finally kiss me.
And then, Etta’s voice suddenly spoke inside my head. “Well, my God, darling, it’s the twenty-first century. What on earth are you waiting for? You can kiss him.”
I could. Yes. Yes, I could just lift my head and lean in and kiss Elijah Hamilton like it was a normal, ordinary occurrence.
Right. Like kissing Elijah Hamilton would ever be ordinary?
I’d watched him kiss that girl at the mall and was sure I’d memorized all the steps in his routine. He’d move in, grip my face between his hands, run his thumb along my jaw, and finally, glide his arm down around my body, pulling me against his own, all the while, peeking through his lashes to see if I enjoyed it.
I wasn’t sure when I decided—even what made me decide. I just touched my lips to his and waited.
It took a second or two. But then there was a sudden, tiny squeak from him, and I felt the pulse in his wrist leap under my fingertips.page149image47024
And then, his hands were in my hair, angling my head just the way he liked it, his tongue brushing against mine, so soft it might have been my imagination...except imaginary kisses were never so intense. He kissed me like I was a song he wrote, lips wrapped around every word until it hummed with hidden meaning and promise, and his hands held me the way they held his guitar—like the music would stop if he let me go.

About Patty Blount:

Native New Yorker Patty Blount is the award-winning author of several critically acclaimed internet issues novels for teens as well as a few adult contemporary romances. She is inspired to write by such greats as Judy Blume, JK Rowling, and Gayle Forman. In fact, Judy Blume is the reason Patty elected to write under her real name…so she’d appear on shelves next to her idol. Patty adores writing; she’s written everything from technical manuals to song lyrics (see THE WAY IT HURTS, coming August 2017). Patty wants you to know she loves chocolate…really, really loves chocolate.

When not crushing on actors Gilles Marini or Sam Heughan, Patty can be found sitting in traffic somewhere on the Long Island Expressway, listening to audio books or talking wildly to herself about plots and characters. Prone to falling madly in love with fictional characters, Patty suffers frequent broken hearts when they all invariably prefer the heroine to her… go figure. When she’s not writing, Patty loves to watch bad sci-fi movies and live tweet the hilarity, and scour Pinterest for ideas on awesome bookcases. Patty lives on Long Island with her family in a house that, sadly, lacks bookcases.

Excerpt

A series of female giggles pierced the silence. She looked upstairs to where the sound resonated and saw two women in barely there bikini’s running down the steps. Behind them was Joshua Mancini himself wearing a pair of shorts and a black t-shirt. He was chasing the women. Amy geared herself up to meet her new employer. Even if she was appalled at the state of the house she had to make that first impression a good one. As he got closer she saw that he was truly handsome indeed with his sleek muscle and untamed pride. What she saw online was totally drool-worthy, but those images had nothing on the real-life Joshua Mancini who was six feet six, extremely well built with a ridged wall of a chest that bulged against the soft fabric of his t- shirt. He was breathtaking to look at with his black shiny, spiky hair, tanned skin and piercing eyes with an unusual mix of blue and green. Turquoise. That was the color. It was turquoise like the sea in somewhere like the Caribbean. Not that she’d ever been, but she’d seen enough pictures. He was the kind of man that made you want to stare, even against your will. She quickly adjusted herself and her focus. It would do her no good to go all girlie weak-kneed and turn into some babbling buffoon in front of him. She had to look professional. He looked her over with appreciation as he made his descent down the stairs and stopped a few paces away from her, making her feel like a dwarf even in her heels that added an extra two inches to her mere five feet and four inches. The women joined him and giggled as they tried to fix each other’s hair. “Good, the stripper’s here,” he said with a wide smile that revealed super gorgeous dimples in his exotic high cheek bones. It took her a second or two to realize that he was referring to her. “No, no I’m from the agency,” she replied quickly. “I’m Amy, your new PA.” That was when he looked up at her and narrowed his eyes. “If you could just point me in the direction of the office I’ll get started.” There, that was professional. To her surprise, however, he started to laugh. It was the usual sort of off balanced laughter you’d expect from someone who was truly wasted and didn’t know what they were even laughing at. “Those people are jokers.” “This is no joke. I’ll take care of all your paperwork and everything.” She offered a smile. “Ha, ha. Everything? Well you can start in there.” He set his square jaw in a firm line and pointed to the mess in the living room. “Clean that up will you.” Her mouth dropped. She attempted to protest but he just walked away, leaving her there to gawk at the crazy mess.

ABOUT TRACIE DELANEY

Tracie Delaney is the author of the Winning Ace trilogy. She loves nothing more than immersing herself in a good romance, although she sometimes, rather cheekily, makes her characters wait for their HEA.
When she isn’t writing or sitting around with her head stuck in a book, she can often be found watching The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones or any tennis match involving Roger Federer. Her greatest fear is running out of coffee.
Tracie studied accountancy, gaining her qualification in 2001. Her maths teacher would no doubt be stunned by this revelation considering Tracie could barely add two plus two at high school.
Tracie lives in the North West of England with her amazingly supportive husband. They both share a love of dogs, travel and wine.

“What was his name?”
“Fuzz.” I chuckle out remembering why he was given the nickname.
“Fuzz, seriously?” she has a smile but still has that sad look on her face.
“Yeah. Couldn't grow a beard to save his life. Could only grow in that peach fuzz. So, he was given the name Fuzz. Real name was Tucker Williams.” She laughs at that.
“For a big bad biker, he sure didn't get a bad ass name. Yours is pretty good, but something like Snake or Viper would be scarier.” She laughs making me join in.
“How is Gin not bad ass? And I don’t like snakes. They freak me out.” I admit making her laugh more.
“Bad ass biker for sure. Scared of snakes. How did you get your nickname?”
“That is a story for another time babe. I should probably get you back to your car. You shouldn't be cuttin’ class either.” I lightly scold her, but she only grins.
“I like the name Gin and yeah I know I shouldn't be cutting school, I just have been having a hard time staying focused. Tarrance has most of his classes with me and... wait how did you know I cut school?”
“Told your old man I would look out for you. Got eyes out. I meant what I said to that prick too, he comes near you again he’s dead.” She shrinks back to the door at my serious tone then opens her mouth to speak. “Not a debate,” I say instantly feeling like shit when she bows her head in defeat.
“Have you done that before? Killed someone?” she questions.
“I think you know the answer to that babe.”

2.

“How could anyone be a better man than you Gin?” He lets out a forced laugh.
“You are only saying that because you don’t know me, babe. I'm not a good man, nor a reliable one.”
“You have been reliable to me,” I say making him look my way again.
“Yeah maybe, but me sitting in this car right now... That just confirms I'm not a good man.” He goes to open the door, but I grab hold of his arm, trying to pull him back from leaving.
“If you aren't good for being in here, then neither am I cause I want you here. I need you here with me Gin.” I look up into his face with pleading eyes noticing for the first time the scarring around the side of his face. Hesitantly I reach up, my hand acting on its own and touch the side of his face. At first, I think he is going to jerk away from me, but instead, he pushes his face into my touch, his breath hitching at the contact.
The skin on the side of his face is smooth and bumpy at the same time, then I realize it’s healed burns. Running my fingers along the damaged skin, I make my way up under his bandanna where the path of raised skin leads me. Slowly I push the bandanna up until it falls from his head showing off a full head of chin-length hair that falls down on his face. I run my fingers through the strands, pushing it from his face to see that the burns continue past his hairline.
“Burnt the hell out of it. Looked a lot worse before.” He grunts out still surprisingly not moving.
“You’re still handsome,” I say with a smile bringing my hand down to brush across his covered jaw. This is what makes him pull away.
“Should get going. Stay out of trouble.” He says then before I can respond he is up and out of my car, walking behind me and into the dark.
