The year is 1626. A senseless war rips through parts of Germany. Ongoing animosity between the Catholics and the Protestants has turned into an excuse to destroy much of the landscape situated between France, Italy and Denmark. But religion only plays a minor role in this lucrative business of war.

The young dutchman, Pieter van Diemen, returns to Amsterdam in chains after a period of imprisonment in the Spice Islands. He manages to escape but must leave Amsterdam in a hurry. Soldiers are in demand in Germany and he decides to travel with a regiment until he can desert. His hope of survival is to reach Sichardtshof, the farm in Franconia, Germany; the farm he left ten years ago. His desire to seek refuge with them lies in his fond memories of the maid Katarina and her master, the humanist patrician Herr Tucher. But ten years is a long time and the farm has changed. Franconia is not only torn by war but falling victim to a church-driven witch hunt. The Jesuit priest, Ralf, has his sights set on Sichardtshof as well. Ralf believes that ridding the area of evil will be his saving grace. Can Pieter, Katarina and Herr Tucher unite to fight against a senseless war out of control?

The Soldier’s Return is the second book in the Heaven’s Pond Trilogy and will be released on September 15, 2017.

 Protocol Excerpt

It wasn’t until she was five blocks from home, well past the newsstand but before the buckling sidewalk in front of the old library, that Elsa Henderson knew she was being followed.
She’d left the office late, her desk a maze of notes and lipstickstained paper coffee cups, and headed into the starless night with her briefcase empty and her head full of the work that would be waiting in the morning. She didn’t worry about walking alone at night. This was Collinsburg, for God’s sake. Safe. Charming. The Goldilocks of the Midwest. Not too anything. Except maybe hot.
Then…a feeling. A tingle at the base of her neck. The sensation of being watched. She turned, casually flipping salon-blown hair, and looked behind her. The street was empty.
She sighed and shook her head. Laughed her signature throaty laugh. Work was getting to her. Maybe the protests, too, although those were daytime affairs and more nuisance than worry. She needed a glass of wine, a hot bath and an hour of mindless television. Maybe Dancing with the Stars or—
Elsa stopped. The hair at the back of her neck stood at attention as if an icy hand trailed a finger along her spine. A feeling of unseen eyes crawled over her.
She spun quickly this time, eyes darting from the streetlight to the blue US Mail drop box to the doorways where darkness clotted. The street was still vacant. Hadn’t she heard something? A whisper of fabric? The slip of rubber soles on a pebble? Or was it all in her head, a figment of her imagination—or what her coworkers insisted was increasing paranoia over unseen and undefined danger?
She squinted as if trying to read the street. A half-block away, in the doorway of her favorite smoothie shop, the shadows seemed darker. Denser. Man-shaped.
Elsa’s heart thudded sickly in her chest. She quickened her pace, the clap-clap-clap of her heels in time with her heart. Telegraphing her growing dread.
Hurry up. Stop.
Get home. Stop.
Don’t look back. Stop.
She wanted to run, but didn’t. That would’ve been rude. What if she was overreacting? What if she was being paranoid? Maybe the man (the shadow?) was simply walking the same way. She hadn’t even seen him—seen anyone, for that matter. Even if she had, there was no proof of pursuit beyond a sound, a feeling. And yet…
Elsa Henderson broke into a light jog. A bead of sweat snaked beneath her arm, settling at the waistband of the Spanx she had yanked on that morning.
Unable to resist, she chanced a look behind her. A pair of headlights suddenly swung into view. There was no man, no silhouette. Just sleek steel, shiny chrome and hungry, churning tires.
The headlights grew larger. The tires squealed, eating pavement as the car sped toward her, shuddering with each gear shift, nosing aside a rubber garbage can wheeled to the curb for tomorrow’s collection.
“But—” she said.
The car struck her, tossing her into the air like a crash-test dummy without the car. Her head collided with the windshield, creating a pebble-sized ding in the glass and a spider web fracture in her skull. The car sped on, pushing Elsa toward the roof rack until she rolled off, hitting the asphalt with a wet splat.
She watched the red taillights recede into the darkness through the haze of blood now streaming down her face. The lights stopped. Then flashed to white. The car backed up. Rolled over her. Then did it again.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Bones ground to dust. Blood bloomed from her head. Her heart, with nothing left to pump, stopped. Then everything became shadow.

(Passports and Promises, #2)
Publication date: August 16th 2017
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

When Bethany Beaumont finds a book about life in the sultan’s harem, she discovers it’s actually a guide to the lost art of seduction. Just what she needs as she departs on a study abroad trip to exotic Istanbul. She’s struggling to get over her ex, and the book of dirty little secrets might be just the thing to help…if only she could find someone to practice on.
Half-Turkish and full of Australian swagger, teaching assistant Adam Kent seems to fit the bill. They decide to become lovers for the duration of the trip, and then part ways. Forever.
But not every lesson can be found in a book, and sometimes falling in love changes everything. When Bethany is forced to confront her past, and the promises she made to someone else, will it really be as easy as she thought to let Adam go?
EXCERPT:
My mother insisted on purchasing two of the largest suitcases possible, Louis Vuitton rolling cases in an easily recognizable and slightly obnoxious shade of bright pink. She’d spent more on my luggage than some people did on a car, and they were heavy. I’d loaded them up with my precious books and far too many pairs of shoes before I left. The porter stumbled, losing his grip on the first suitcase, and nearly fell.
I rushed to help, but someone else beat me to it, a tall, mountain of a man. I stopped in my tracks and stared. I may have been drooling. He was, for lack of a better word, beautiful.
Broad chest. Long legs. Strong, muscular arms. Golden, glowing skin. Chestnut hair flowing in riotous curls around his face and down to his shoulders. Eyes in a warm shade of brown. The edge of a tattoo peeking out from under the sleeve of his shirt.
Something unexpected curled in my chest. Was it…lust? I hadn’t felt it in so long I almost didn’t recognize it. But I wasn’t the only person staring at the bronzed god in from of me.
“Heavens to Betsy,” said Hilary under her breath. “I’ve never seen anything so pretty this close up.”
He was pretty, and he was also pissed off, most likely at the owner of the two enormous and ridiculously heavy pink suitcases. Me.

He hit the rug in a few strides, drying himself on his T-shirt. Grace was aware her wet underwear was more provocative than nothing at all. But she could hardly stay in the water all afternoon. He was blatantly watching her as she walked towards him, not bothered that his own wet shorts clung to every inch.

He tossed her the damp T-shirt and she sat down, resisting the urge to cover up. What would be the point now he’d seen everything? And if she got dressed now, she’d soak her clothes. It wouldn’t take long to dry off in the hot sun.

But she wasn’t ready for the erotic charge as her bra dried and puckered around her nipples. Head tipped back, Danny drank from his bottle, watching her so intently she shivered. Avoiding his eye, she rubbed in more sun cream. When he didn’t offer to do her back, she couldn’t decide if she was disappointed or relieved.

He finished his sandwich and licked his fingers. A streak of mayonnaise clung to the corner of his mouth and she had the urge to lick it off. What was wrong with her? She wasn’t tempted to have sex with him, was she? Half undressed in a secret cove, they had the perfect opportunity. But she wasn’t a teenager after a snog at the bus-stop moment.

His tanned and lean body was more than tempting. A dark line of hair arched over his pecs and dipped into his boxers. He had a tattoo of a bird on his hip but to get a proper look, his boxers would have to come down. Did she really want to go there?

“You said you spend most summers in Cornwall?” she asked, twisting the cap off some sparkling water.

“Are we doing polite conversation instead of foreplay?”

He leaned back on his elbows, legs crossed at the ankles as he gazed out to sea. The boxers stretched tight around him, so revealing he may as well be naked. She sipped her water, wishing she hadn’t bought sparkling. He made her blood fizz more than enough.

He fished out a couple of strawberries, ate one and held the other to her lips. She bit into it, squirting the juice down her chin. He wiped it away, his fingers brushing over her bottom lip. She shivered, aware they were lying about in their underwear with nobody around. She remembered the way he had kissed her last night. Or had she been the one to kiss him?

It would be so easy to reach out and touch him. But, if she wanted anything, she wanted more than a quick grope. She was miserable enough without piling on more regrets.

But he was brushing his fingers down her cheek, raising her chin to kiss her. She melted into it as he leaned across her, fists beside her thighs, not quite touching her. She longed to sink onto the shingle beneath him, to lose herself in the saltwater smell of him.

She traced a curious finger along his tattoo, easing the boxers past his hip bone. It was an eagle, the blue wingspan curving over his thigh, the head dipping low across the taut muscles of his stomach, its beak pointing down.

He was hard, eager for her. If she touched him now, there’d be no turning back…
