Guest book review by Carly Wilson

‘Killer Lawyer’ is the third book in the ‘Jake Wolfe’ series by Mark Nolan, and it was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book and became completely immersed in the plot from the onset. It was fast-paced, thrilling and a complete page-turner.

The book centre’s around ex-marine turned lawyer/ government assassin Jake Wolfe, who partakes in numerous secret government missions, with his trusty well- trained and highly intelligent dog Cody.

After the drama of previous missions, Jake is trying to lay low and lead a somewhat normal life. His girlfriend Sarah after witnessing the danger of Jake in action is pulling away from him, and he tries to settle living on one of his friends boats. But when a serial killer strikes, randomly gunning down victims including one of Wolfe’s neighbours Marion, he is unable to stop himself from hunting down the culprit.

But what happens when you become a suspect in the process of the chase? Will the killer actually get away with murder?

Nolan is a new author to me, and I absolutely loved his writing style. The story is told from varying character perspectives, enabling you to get into the mindset of not only the killer, but even Cody. It is the perfect way to allow you to understand the complexity of each character and really drew me in as a reader.

I loved how intune Jake and Cody are, it is a true mans best friend relationship, and they work well as a team. You understand Jake’s girlfriend Sarah’s fears over the danger that Jake puts himself in, but you always want them to be happy and together for their happily ever after.

I have not read any of the previous books in this series, but I found that it didn’t matter in terms of this story and that you can easily read it as a stand-alone. The book has something for everyone; romance, suspense, shocking plot twists and drama. It was an absolutely pleasure to read such an entertaining and gripping book, and I’d recommend to all thriller lovers.

I am so unbelievably excited for the next book!

Eric Horton sees fire.

When he sleeps, he dreams of a world screaming in the midst of devastating explosions. These dreams terrify him, and as more strange happenings unfold around him, he’s unable to shake the feeling that what he’s seeing isn’t just a dream.

When a new student, Renee, appears in his science class, he could swear he’s known her forever. But how could that be? As they get to know each other, he meets her father, who explains the experiments he’s been conducting involving “the Universal Energy Field” and “Collective Consciousness”—two things Eric has never heard of before. They seem to be tied to the idea that we are all connected by the same energy and are all more powerful than we realize. Eric begins to learn more about these groundbreaking concepts—but can they be real?

As his life continues to shift and his knowledge of the Field increases, Eric will be tested beyond anything he’s experienced before. He must decide whether he believes in that part of himself which ties him to the world around him, and he must access it—or lose
everything he’s been working to keep.

                     Tracy Richardson

Tracy wasn’t always a writer, but she was always a reader. Her favorite book growing up was A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. In a weird way her life reflects the book through odd synchronicities. She has a degree in Biology like Mrs. Murry and without realizing it she named her children Alex and Katie after Meg’s parents. (Really, it was not intentional, because that would be weird)!

Tracy uses her science background in her writing through her emphasis on environment issues and metaphysics. Growing up, Tracy’s younger brothers called her ‘sarge’ and once when she took a personality test for a job, the evaluator said she could give a Drill Sargent a run for his money. If you need someone to boss you around, Tracy’s your gal! Tracy lives in Indianapolis.

A Murderous Malady by Christine Trent

Publication Date: May 7, 2019
Crooked Lane Books
Hardcover & eBook; 336 Pages
Genre: Historical Mystery

For fans of Charles Todd and Deanna Raybourn comes Christine Trent’s second Florence Nightingale mystery.
Cholera has broken out in London, but Florence Nightingale has bigger problems when people begin dying of a far more intentional cause—murder.

The London summer of 1854 is drawing to a close when a deadly outbreak of cholera grips the city. Florence Nightingale is back on the scene marshaling her nurses to help treat countless suffering patients at Middlesex Hospital as the disease tears through the Soho slums. But beyond the dangers of the disease, something even more evil is seeping through the ailing streets of London. It begins with an attack on the carriage of Florence’s friend, Elizabeth Herbert, wife to Secretary at War Sidney Herbert. Florence survives, but her coachman does not. Within hours, Sidney’s valet stumbles into the hospital, mutters a few cryptic words about the attack, and promptly dies from cholera. Frantic that an assassin is stalking his wife, Sidney enlists Florence’s help, who accepts but has little to go on save for the valet’s last words and a curious set of dice in his jacket pocket. Soon, the suspects are piling up faster than cholera victims, as there seems to be no end to the number of people who bear a grudge against the Herbert household. Now, Florence is in a race against time—not only to save the victims of a lethal disease, but to foil a murderer with a disturbingly sinister goal—in A Murderous Malady.
