The Italian and Russian mafias are at war,
And it is brutal.
We’re both ruthless, relentless, and unforgiving.
But then, the decision is made to merge our worlds,
A marriage between the two sides.

The most beautiful woman of the Italian mafia,
And the Bratva’s most feared monster.

I loved her from afar for so long,
And I finally get to have her as my own.
But will she run away,
When she realizes who I really am?

Bianca
Anything,
I would do anything for my sister,
Even marry into Bratva to keep her safe.
I expected a vicious, cold-hearted savage,
But I am in for a surprise.

This scarred, frightening man,
Is everything I have ever wanted.

Now, it’s up to me,
To break down his walls,
And destroy the barriers between us
With broken whispers.

Emma Blackwood’s favorite pastime is solving literary murder mysteries…until the body in her living room makes everything a little too real.

When Emma comes to the Black Hills to work at her Aunt Rose’s B&B, the Sweetbrier Inn, she is hoping for a quiet break from the corporate treadmill. But she hadn’t expected murder and intrigue to mar this peaceful setting.

As she wades through too many clues to identify the murderer, she soon finds that the culprit isn’t stopping at only one homicide and may even have placed Emma herself on the list of targets. With the help of her friend Becky, and a deputy sheriff who grudgingly lets them join in on the investigation, Emma tracks down the killer. But will it be in time to save the next victim?

Cal closed the file and tapped one finger on it while he stared at me. Rose’s grandfather clock chimed the quarter-hour.

“Hiding in the background is a good idea,” he finally said. He leaned forward, dangling the folder in his hands. “There is a murderer out there, and he or she might be willing to kill again. Investigating this case could be dangerous, and the risk will be greater the closer we get to the solution.”

I grinned.

Cal frowned. “What?”

“You said ‘we.’” I did a fist pump. “I’m working the case with you.”

“Didn’t you hear the part about it being dangerous?”

“Of course, I did. But the faster we solve the case, the less likely it is that anyone else gets hurt.”

Cal stood. “As long as that anyone else isn’t you.”

I studied his face. The frown was still there, but there was something else in his eyes. “You’re worried about me?”

He shoved his sunglasses back on and started for the door.

“Just keep in touch. Report anything to me that you think might have a bearing on the case.” He paused with his hand on the doorknob. “Anything. Got that?”

I nodded as he opened the door and we stepped into the foyer. “Anything.”

He cleared his throat. “So dinner last night…”

He paused and glanced out the window, his brow furrowing.

I followed his gaze and just barely kept myself from groaning. Of course, my mother would come to the cafe and bring my sister with her.

“Did you tell them we were coming?” I asked Jameson, looking back at him.

He grimaced. “I mentioned we were meeting for coffee this morning.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose. “That was enough. I bet my mom has either been sitting outside waiting, or one of her friends texted her we were here.”

Jameson said nothing in response because my mom sauntered up to us with a huge grin. Dakota followed behind, glowering at me.

What else was new?

“You two look cozy,” Mom said, clasping her hands in front of her chest.

Cozy? We looked like two strangers meeting for coffee.

“He just got here,” I told her. “It’s hard to look cozy when we’re still warming up.”

Mom waved her hand in the air, like she was clearing my words from her presence.

“Nonsense. I just knew the two of you would hit it off.”

I stifled my groan as she gazed at the two of us. “We won’t keep you,” she continued. “But I wanted to drop in and say hello.”

Before either of us could say anything, she and Dakota went to the counter to order a drink and were gone in a few minutes.

Only then did I sag into my chair. “My God…” I muttered.

“Guess I should be glad this was coffee and not something fancy.”

I barked out a laugh. “You jest, but she probably would have crashed that, too.”

“What’s—“ Jameson started, but he snapped his mouth shut when Mrs. Aldrich, a retired elementary school teacher and one of my mother’s good friends, stopped by our table.

“You two make a fine couple,” she said, grinning at the two of us. “Tall, dark, and handsome, with fair and beautiful.”

I wanted to tell her she missed squat as my descriptor, but I didn’t want her to stick around longer than necessary.

“I’m so glad to see you dating,” she said, directing her gaze at me.

I pressed my lips together to keep myself from saying something rude and nodded.

With one last grin, she left the cafe.

Jameson cleared his throat. “I was going to ask you what the deal was with your sister,” he said. “But now I want to know what the deal was with her comment.”

He jerked his head toward where Mrs. Aldrich had disappeared outside the cafe.

“Nothing much to tell,” I hedged, not wanting to get into my dating history and how horrendous it had been. I also didn’t want to talk about my sister and hoped he’d take the hint.

I wasn’t so lucky.

“And Dakota?”

I was saved from thinking of a response by another person, this time my parents’ neighbor Mr. Creech.

“I thought that was you, Daphne,” he said, grinning at me. “But I forgot my glasses at home and my eyes aren’t what they used to be.”

I smiled at him with affection. Growing up, he’d helped foster my love of art and drawing. He also helped me get into the art program at Abbott Ridge College.

“Yep, it’s me.”

He nodded, flicking his gaze to Jameson, then back to me. “Who is this young man? Your beau?”

My face heated at his words, and I quickly tried to correct him. “No! I mean,” I cleared my throat, “no. We’re friends and we met for coffee this morning.”

Mr. Creech grinned at me and winked. “Sure, that’s what I said when I met my wife, you know. And look how that turned out?”

My mouth dried at his words. “Oh, it’s not—“

“I hope to see you next time you stop by your parents’. I have some stuff I think you might like.”

He nodded to Jameson, then shuffled out of the cafe. Thankfully, since he forgot his glasses, he didn’t walk to a car and get in the driver’s seat. He walked away from the parking area.

“Sure were quick to deny that I was your beau,” Jameson teased, chuckling.

I glared at him, wishing I could shoot lasers from my eyes as he continued to laugh while sipping his coffee.

“This isn’t funny.”

“Oh, I don’t know,” he drawled. “This is pretty hilarious to me.”

I stuck my tongue out at him for lack of anything better to do, and he threw his head back and laughed.

The joy on his face as he did so cracked something in the wall I’d built around my heart and made me question if being so adamant about us not being something was the right thing.

Bar Down, Baby
Georgia Royce

(Rose City Rendezvous, #1)
Publication date: August 2nd 2022
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Extra spicy with a sweet happily ever after, BAR DOWN, BABY is not your average surprise pregnancy love story.

Things were finally looking up for Megan Massey. She moved out of her toxic ex’s apartment. The online store she’s been managing is finally taking off. And she just took a road trip with her new (amazing!) roommates—and had the hottest hookup of her life with Derek Carroll, head coach of Portland U’s men’s hockey team. She’s truly living her best life.

Except now she can’t keep her lunch down. She’s tired all the time and come to think of it, it’s been. . . a while since her last cycle. A baby is the last thing either of them expected, but Derek surprises Megan by committing to co-parent—platonically.

As they navigate the pregnancy together, Megan can’t help but wonder if there could be more between them. Her pregnancy hormones are definitely getting in the way of this whole ‘taking it slow’ thing. And his longing stares and lingering touches aren’t helping. But even as they grow closer, she can feel him pulling back, like there’s something he’s hiding. What could be worse than falling for your commitment-phobic baby daddy?

A gutsy, tenacious heroine with a chip on her shoulder. A hockey coach with a secret, looking for redemption. Bad bachelor party favors, weird ice cream flavors, and ALL. THE. FEELS.

TW/CW: Contains mentions of (off page) pregnancy loss, drug abuse, and suicide.

Rose Hawthorne: The Irish Wanders by Shannon O'Gorman Book Review!

Rose Hawthorne: The Irish Wanders follows Rose, a celebrity author in her early seventies, who dislikes the limelight but does like Hermes scarfs, round violet sunglasses, and old colonial hotels. One day, she receives a letter asking her to visit Newgrange, Ireland and discover something that has been hidden there for a thousand years.

She asks her granddaughter Samantha to accompany her, but she hadn’t expected her to continually post photos of their progress on her Instagram account. An encounter with an old love and an unexpected discovery leads Rose deeper into the past, where she finds she must make a hard decision about her future.

Shannon O’Gorman is originally from Winnipeg, Canada but has been living in San Jose, California for the past 10 years enjoying the sunshine. She is currently at work on her third Rose Hawthorne book entitled Lost in Laos: The Asian Wanders which will be available in August 2022.

My Thoughts

The title The Irish Wanders caught my attention as I am obsessed with anything Irish. This novel written by Shannon O'Gorman is about a 70-ish woman who is an author.  In the first book, Rose Hawthorne went to the Seven Wonders of the World where she collected 7 unique marbles that have wonders of their own in each marble.

That part of the story carries over into The Irish Wanders, where Rose is stalked and her house broken into. Whoever did this wants the marbles back. As she tries to figure out who did this, she has planned a trip to Ireland after receiving a cryptic letter requesting her to go to Newgrange and find something that has been there for a thousand years. She decides to take her granddaughter, Samantha, with her. Her daughter and granddaughter maintain Rose's presence on Instagram, posting pics of the author's works.

While in Ireland, she reunites with an old flame, a relationship that happened 50 years ago. He accompanies Rose and Samantha on their quest to Newgrange where they look for a centuries-old medallion. They do find the medallion and Rose and Samantha learn the ages-old story about the medallion, three Druid sisters each had a medallion. Samantha holds the medallion and sees the past and learns where the other two medallions are. Rose gets enough information to put in her next book.

This is a story that is full of Irish lore, which I love, but also focuses on Rose and her old flame. How will they get together? A long-distance relationship? Along with the legend of the Druid sisters, the reader learns more about Rose and her past when she briefly lived in Ireland.
Ireland is a magical and mystical place and there is some of that mysticism in the story.

I have been to Ireland twice, although we never got to Newgrange, we got to the gift shop but that was it. We did see it off in the distance.
I loved this story, a fast read, and the author knowledgeable in Irish lore.
I really enjoyed this story, I actually went and bought the first book in the series.
I give it 4 stars.

I received a copy of the book for review purposes only.
