My Review

I love a good murder mystery and have not heard of this author, I am the type of reader that loves to read something new and refreshing from either a new author or one that I have never heard of. The story starts out with "Maren Kane could barely make out the yellow dividing line a few feet in front of her through the thick, gray valley fog." Ok, so that sentence had me thinking that something bad was going to happen. Sure enough Maren witnesses an accident on the dark road. She gets out to investigate and finds a car overturned in a drainage ditch full of water. She sees that there are two children in the backseat, upside down and the driver in front. Another person, turns up to help her rescue the children, however, nothing can be done for the woman who was the driver. 

Maren is a lobbyist for a California toy company and knows many people in the local government because of her role. She spends a lot of time in the Capitol and as such she knows a young woman, a legislative aide who is found murdered, by Maren actually, and finds herself involved in the murder investigation. A colleague of Maren's is eventually arrested for the murder as there is incriminating evidence against this young man. What ensues is a race against time as Maren tries to prove that her friend did not do the crime. To have two deaths that she came upon in one day is certainly weighing on Maren, and as time goes by the reader finds out that the two cases are connected.

Maren disagrees with the police in that the murder of the aide is a crime of passion, but Maren will do all in her power to see that her friend is released. She has a theory, but she needs to find evidence that the police will believe. This murder mystery is a fast-paced enjoyable read with a story that could very well be in the headlines, a believable tale about corrupt lawmakers who will do anything it takes to further themselves and their careers.

If you are looking for a good story, then give this one a try! This is the first book in what looks to be a great political series.

My Review

I rarely use a sunscreen, and I am supposed to avoid the sun as much as I can due to medications I take. When I do use sunscreen, I need something that is gentle, but effective. Oz Naturals Tinted Moisturizer Sunscreen has Zinc Oxide which is unique among sunscreen ingredients because it is a broad-spectrum blocker, protecting from UVA, UVB, and even UVC. It does not penetrate the skin, but kind of sits on top, letting no harmful rays in. Just the kind of sunscreen I need because I tend to get water blisters from the sun, so I need to be protected. This sunscreen is tinted which is nice if used on your face, it can be used as a foundation also. The smell of the sunscreen was pleasant, not overpowering.

Like I said before I don't usually use sunscreen because I find that they are greasy on the skin, and I hate that. Oz Naturals Sunscreen was not greasy or oily at all and left my skin feeling soft, not like I was going to slide around. I look forward to using this product more in the future. My Thoughts

I was asked to review Find the Clues by the author, I typically do not review children's books, but I decided to review this one after I read what it was about at Amazon. 

This book is not only a find the clues book; but it also is a seek and find and it has a story. It is a story about the Cutes. There are the mom and dad, five children, a daughter and two sets of twins. A set with two boys, 8 years old and a set with two girls, 6 years old. The oldest girl is twelve and often forgets to watch her siblings as her mother has asked her to do. That is when the fun begins. The pages that follow are where the reader has to do a search of simple items/people; there is the birthday party, swimming pool, playground, toy store, petting zoo, and supermarket. If you remember the Where's Waldo series, this is very similar. In each of the scenarios, one or more of the children go missing, and it is up to the reader to find them, along with other items. 

The middle of the book has the family having dinner and mom asks how everyone's week was and what was their favorite part. They all have their chance to tell what their favorite part of the week was. After that, there are more pages, soccer game, the fair, ballet studio, scout camp, art studio and the first day of school. The ending has the children going to bed. Nope, this is not a spoiler, but a rundown of what the reader needs to do, colorful and packed pages with all sorts of objects to find to keep the child busy for hours to come. This is a book that can be utilized with a child even as young as 5, with the help of someone, up to 18. The back of the book, of course, has answers in case you get stumped with the activities. 

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend Find the Cutes, by the way that is the name of the family, and think it would be a great addition to a family's bookshelf or even a library.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A native of Austin, Texas, Laini Giles grew up the daughter of bookworms, and became a Nancy Drew devotee early on. When she realized there might be no escape from hairy tarantulas and bad guys with guns, she put her detective dreams on hold and wrote about them instead, finishing her first mystery novel with custom illustrations when she was eight.

It was this love of mystery combined with a love of old MGM musicals and The Marx Brothers that led her to check Kenneth Anger’s Hollywood Babylon out of the library during her formative years. Ideas began to simmer. A graduate of the University of North Texas, she put the writing on hold for a while when real life got in the way (i.e.—she met and married her Canadian husband and headed north for maple-flavored goodies and real beer).

Eating almonds on a daily basis is very beneficial but sometimes you just have to kick up the flavor a bit. I received one package of Blue Diamond Blueberry Almonds and one container of Blue Diamond Salted Caramel Almonds for review at no cost to me and can I just say that I have found my new favorite snack? The Salted Caramel have a sweet, salty flavor that is perfect for snacking right out of the container. The Blueberry almonds are sweet with the blueberry flavor that can also be eaten right out of the bag. I really loved them both. I do love to bake and I have been trying all sorts of different granola bar recipes. The one listed below is super easy and the flavored almonds lend just a little bit extra to the flavor! I hope that these are not limited editions because they are so good!

Baked Oatmeal Snack Bars with Blue Diamond Blueberry and Salted Caramel Almonds

Ingredients

1.5 cups rolled oats

1/4 cup Blue Diamond Blueberry Almonds

1/4 cup Blue Diamond Salted Caramel Almonds

1/2 cup dried blueberries

1/4 cup flax seeds 

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp salt

1.25 cups skim milk

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

Method:

Preheat oven to 350*

Mix dry ingredients.

Mix wet ingredients.

Pour wet into dry. Stir to combine.

Pour into a 9×9 baking dish either coated in cooking spray or lined with

parchment.

Bake for 40 minutes.

Cut into 9 squares.

My Review

I received these cute little egg poachers the other day and I used them right away for our supper. The description says that they do not need to be oiled so I didn't oil them. I put the eggs in the poachers and cooked them according to directions. They cooked perfectly. I will say that the next time I use them I will be oiling them up a bit as I had a hard time getting the eggs out of the poacher. 

The eggs were delicious though in spite of that. I love the colors, so bright and I love that they can be used for a variety of things. They are perfect also for melting chocolate or even cheese cubes, they are a size that I think you could melt a couple pieces at a time. I really haven't poached eggs before, I didn't like the work involved or they never turned out. With the Silicone Egg Poachers, I will definitely be using them often as I do not like fried eggs. These cute little poachers are a great addition to any kitchen.
