Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

Candace Blackburn

"Alexei, are you okay?"
"No. I'm not." He turned, facing her now but still staying by the window. Keeping distance
between them. "If those two... damnable women had not drugged my stew. If you hadn't
seen me with them. If you hadn't been attacked. So many what ifs, and so many lost years.
All this time, we could've been together. We could've had every night together. Met every
morning in each other's arms." He slashed his arm through the air. "No weeks or months
spent wondering if I'd get to see you again. No missing you with every beat of my heart."
The tears steadily flowed. His canines had dropped, and his eyes held the unmistakable
telltale yellow of a transitioned Lycan. Claws tipped his fingers. Wolf and man seemed to
battle for control, and Lex was emotionally raw. "So many nights I wished you were there,
so I could tell you I loved you. Every night, I prayed you were safe. And many nights, I
asked God why you couldn't be mine. But. You. Were. And the idiocy of three people cost
us two thousand years of happiness."
"You're right," she said as she rose off the bed. "I can't understand why any of this happened.
I've questioned the very same thing, and can find no answer. But we're here together now.
And isn't that what counts?" He watched as she took slow steps toward him, and his
expression slowly began to soften. "In a matter of speaking, you claimed me that night in
Portugal, and we've been together since."
His eyes momentarily widened in surprise. "Yes, but we spent so many nights apart.
Nothing should have separated us. Nothing." He was right. There was no sense trying to
talk him down when she believed what Lex said just as strongly as he did. "You mentioned
Portugal. Were you following me?"
Nodding slowly, she now stood in front of him. "Yes. Jules made sure I had control of my
hungers, and taught me how to use my strengths. Once that was done, and I was confident
in my abilities, I went in search of you. By that time, you were serving the King. And I
followed you on your missions."
"When I saw you, I damned near lost track of what I was doing."
She smiled, remembering making eye contact with Lex for the first time. The sensation was
electric, the pull of a Lycan mate bond weakened, but still present. "But you did your job,
and then you came to me."
His claws retracted, and a smile curling his full lips, he nodded. "And then I came to you."
He pulled her into his arms, and embraced her firmly. "I mourn all the moments we lost."
"As do I, Alexei. But we have the future."
His chest shook as he exhaled a ragged breath. "Yes we do. I can't lose you again, Elizabeth."
"I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere.”

Interview with the author!
Tell us about your genre.  How did you come to choose it?  Why does it appeal to you?
I choose to inhabit the travel genre as I’ve always loved travel.  I wanted to inspire others to
feel about travel the same way I felt…exhilarated, joyous, happy!  For my most recent travel book,
I chose Cuba as a destination. I found that there was so much confusion around traveling to
Cuba especially for U.S. citizens.  I wanted to set the record straight and make sure people had
the necessary information to experience Cuba’s charm.
What do you find most challenging about the writing process, and how do you deal with it?
Writing comes pretty easily to me.  The words flow, especially when I am writing about
something that I love, like travel. Even when I’m writing about something that is a chore, I
find that if I imagine myself telling a story to a friend whatever writer block I may have had disappears.
When and where do you do your writing?
I write at my computer in my little office. I can pretty much write anywhere as laptops now
provide such flexibility and memory. Nevertheless, I still feel I get more done in my regular
space. Although I seem to write around regular 9 to 5 working hours, sometimes I’ll wake up
in the middle of the night, sit at my office and automatically begin to write.
What have you learned about promoting your books?
My book has not been out so long that I can point to a particular promotional effort and label it
the most successful. I’ve engaged in several campaigns, but I have a hunch that social media
will prove to be the most efficient and effective promotional vehicle for my books.
What are you most proud of as a writer?
I’m proud that I successfully navigated the operational details of publishing a book.  I’m also
happy that I am able to share my love of travel with others and hopefully help them make their
travel plans a reality.
If you could have dinner with any writer, living or dead, who would it be and what would you talk about?
George Orwell is my favorite writer. I would love to have dinner with him.  We’d talk about
his experiences in Burma during the British colonization and his time down and out in London
and Paris.  I would love to get his personal interpretation of Animal Farm and what the
different characters symbolized. His masterpiece, 1984, would be the last topic of
discussion.
That way I could relish the accompanying discussion on the techniques he used to achieve
such gems of sentences. I would be especially interested in the political views and experiences
that led to 1984.

The Picture
A warehouse in Japan used as an emergency shelter in the aftermath of the 2011 Tsunami. A distraught, young Japanese woman in dishevelled clothes sits on a box, holding her infant daughter. Ben, a US rescue volunteer, kneels in front of her offering comfort. They hug, the baby between them. The moment turns into an hour as the woman sobs into his shoulder; mourning the loss of her husband, her home, the life she knew. A picture is taken, capturing the moment. It becomes a symbol; of help freely given and of the hope of the survivors. The faces in the picture cannot be recognised, and that is how Ben likes it. No celebrity, thanks not required.

But others believe that being identified as the person in the picture is their path to fame and fortune. Ben stands, unknowingly, in their way, but nothing a contract killing cannot fix.

Author Bio –  I have always loved writing; putting words onto a page and bringing characters to life. I can almost feel myself becoming immersed into their lives, living with their fears and triumphs. Thus, my writing process becomes an endless series of questions. What would she or he do, how would they react, is this in keeping with their character? Strange as it sounds, I don’t like leaving characters in cliffhanging situations without giving them an ending, whichever way it develops.
My life to date is what compels me to seek a just outcome, the good will overcome and the bad will be punished. More though, I tend to see my characters as everyday people in extraordinary circumstances, but in which we may all find our selves if the planets align wrongly or for whatever reason you might consider.

Of course, most novels are autobiographical in some way. You must draw on your own experiences of life and from events you have experienced to get the inspiration. My life has been an endless adventure. Serving in the Navy, fighting in wars, serving as a Police officer and the experiences each one of those have brought have all drawn me to this point, but it was a downside to my police service that was the catalyst for my writing.

Medically retired after being seriously injured while protecting a woman in a domestic violence situation I then experienced the other side of life. Depression and rejection. Giving truth to the oft said saying that when one door closes another opens I pulled myself up and enrolled in college gaining bachelor and master degrees, for my own development rather than any professional need. The process of learning, of getting words down onto the page again relit my passion for writing in a way that I hadn’t felt since high school.

So here we are, two books published and another on track.

Where it will take me I have no idea but I am going to enjoy getting there and if my writing can bring some small pleasure into people’s lives along the way, then I consider that I will have succeeded in life.
