Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

Metropolis by Ellie Midwood Book Tour and Giveaway! #Metropolis #EllieMidwood #HFVBTBlogTours

Metropolis by Ellie Midwood

Publication Date: January 31, 2020
Paperback & eBook; 238 Pages
Genre: Historical Fiction
Weimar Berlin, 1924 Unemployed actors, profiteers, cabaret girls, and impoverished aristocracy – out of this wild set of characters populating Weimar Berlin, Margarete Gräfin von Steinhoff belongs to the latter category.
Having lost everything due to hyper-inflation, she considers jumping into the freezing waters of the Spree rather than facing the humiliating existence shared by millions of her fellow Germans.
However, a chance meeting makes her change her mind at the last moment and offers her a chance to rely on the help of the metropolis itself, where anything can be sold and bought for money and where connections are everything.
The bustling nightlife of cosmopolitan Berlin, with its casinos and dance halls, brings good income for the ones who don’t burden themselves too heavily with morals. After a New Year’s Eve party, Margot finally meets her ever-absent and mysterious neighbor, Paul Schneider, who makes a living by producing a certain type of film for his rich clientele.
Under his guidance, Margot discovers a new passion of hers – photography and soon, her talents are noticed by the prominent newspaper, Berliner Tageblatt itself. But being an official photographer of the most celebrated events of the La Scala and most famous Berlin theaters no longer satisfies Margot’s ambitions.
As soon as the chance presents itself for her to get involved with the cinematography on the set of "Metropolis" - the film with the highest budget ever produced by the UFA – Margot jumps at it, without thinking twice. At the same time, Paul becomes involved with a rival project, "The Holy Mountain," which stars an as yet unknown actress and an emerging director in, Leni Riefenstahl.
As the two women meet, professional rivalry soon turns into a true friendship, fueled by their passion for cinematography. However, due to the economic woes facing Germany, both projects soon run out of money and now, both film crews must go to extreme lengths to save their respective productions.
Set against the backdrop of a decadent, vibrant, and fascinatingly liberal Weimar Berlin, "Metropolis" is a novel of survival, self-discovery, and self-sacrifice, in the name of art, love, and friendship.

The Lost History of Dreams by Kris Waldherr Book Blast and Giveaway! #TheLostHistoryofDreams #KrisWaldherr #historicalfiction #gothic #HFVBTBlogTours #giveaway

The Lost History of Dreams by Kris Waldherr

Paperback Publication Date: February 18, 2020
Atria Books
Hardcover & eBook; 336 Pages
Genre: Historical/Gothic/Mystery
The Lost History of Dreams by Kris Waldherr is now out in paperback! In it, a post-mortem photographer unearths the dark secrets of a famed poet’s marriage in this “sensual, twisting gothic tale…in the tradition of A.S. Byatt’s Possession, Diane Setterfield’s The Thirteenth Tale, and Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights” (BookPage). Blurring the line between the past and the present, truth and fiction, and ultimately, life and death, The Lost History of Dreams is “a surrealist, haunting tale of suspense where every prediction turns out to be merely a step toward a bigger reveal” (Booklist). When famed Byronesque poet Hugh de Bonne is found dead in his bath one morning in 1850, final arrangements are left to his estranged cousin, historian turned postmortem photographer Robert Highstead. De Bonne’s will instructs that he should be buried in a stained glass chapel set on the Shropshire moors, built to house the remains of his beloved wife and muse, Ada. It has since been locked to all outsiders—especially the cultlike fans of de Bonne’s final book, The Lost History of Dreams. Only Ada’s grief-stricken niece, Isabelle, holds the key, but she refuses to open the chapel unless Robert agrees to her bargain: Before he can lay Hugh to rest, Robert must record the real story behind her aunt’s ill-fated marriage to the poet over the course of five nights—a story that is both love story and ghost story. Learn more here.

In addition, Kris is offering two giveaways, one for book clubs and a second for readers: 1. The Midwinter’s Night Read Sweepstakes includes six paperbacks and a $75 Trader Joe’s gift card for your book club ($177 value).

Author: Melanie Munton
Genre: Romantic Suspense/ Contemporary/Erotic Romance
Release Date: March 31, 2020
Cover Designer: L.J. Anderson at Mayhem Cover Creations

We are the Rossetti's. The exiled "sixth" family of the New York mafia. We're the good guys. People don't fear us...much. They respect us. The five of us? We're the Brooklyn Brothers. And we protect what's ours.
You know when you have a little sister and she has that one friend that always follows you around like a puppy? For me, that was Roxanna "Roxy" D'Angelo. That was years ago, back when our fathers didn't hate each other. Then they became enemies and she went off to boarding school in Connecticut. Now, she's back...and looking nothing like the shy girl I remember. Cavorting with anyone from the five families is strictly forbidden to someone like me. So, I can't figure out why I keep finding myself in situations with Roxy that could bring the force of the entire mafia syndicate down on our heads. Even if those situations are the wildest, most intoxicating experiences of my life. But with the Sicilians in town and out for blood, times have never been more dangerous. If they find out about our relationship, they won't hesitate to remove both of us from the equation so they can restore order. We're not Romeo and Juliet. They both died. And I refuse to let anything happen to Roxy. I have to protect her. From my family. From hers.
I hope she won't hate me for what I have to do. Because it might just kill her before any bullet can.

Ace
I followed closely behind Roxy as we stepped through the doors of the subway train. The car wasn’t packed but there were no empty seats either. Standing in the center of the car, we each grabbed one of the metal handles on the bar above our heads and braced for movement. “You really didn’t need to come with me,” she said as the lights in the tunnel system flashed by the windows. “You’ll be riding the train back by yourself for half an hour.” “Good thing I’ve got Candy Crush on my phone, then, huh?” Her smile appeared and disappeared so fast I thought I might have imagined it. “I was serious about what I said yesterday. We can’t continue to run into each other like this, Ace. Whether unintentional or not, you know both of our fathers would lose their minds if they knew about this.” She might have been right, but it wasn’t like we were doing anything really wrong. Nothing unforgivable had happened. Yet. Yes, I knew that was another terrible idea. But I couldn’t stop this train—pun intended—anymore than I could have prevented my own dick from hardening in her presence. Which it still was. “Not to mention if the other families found out,” she added. Now, that just fucking pissed me off. “My family has never let the other five dictate our lives,” I said vehemently. “And there’s no way in hell I’m going to start now. I don’t give a fuck about them or what our fathers would approve of.” Those last words were like acid on my tongue. I didn’t care about Vinnie, but I’d never once gone against my father about anything. My brothers and I respected the hell out of him. He was our patriarch, a wise and principled man. In some ways, he may have been a little too much of a traditionalist for my taste. Overall, though, we obeyed him as our leader. But regardless of how he and Vinnie would view this situation, it had nothing to do with the business between our families, nor between the five families. This was just about me and Roxy. “If you want me to stay away, Rox, then you tell me to. Say the words, but don’t use our fathers as a crutch.” Her eyes flitted back and forth between mine. “I thought I already told you to yesterday at the church.” Our gazes clashed, the air between our bodies crackling with a tense energy. I slowly shook my head. “I wasn’t convinced.” The train glided to a stop at the next station and unloaded the departing passengers. As bodies squeezed around and bumped into us, I didn’t take my eyes off of Roxy, nor did she from me. Something unspoken was passing between us, something that had started yesterday at that church. But before I could act on it, a sea of passengers flooded the car and crowded around us. When I noticed they were all wearing black and white Brooklyn Nets gear, I realized we were at the Atlantic Avenue station, which was right next to the Barclays Center where the Nets played. And judging from the smiles, laughter, and fist-bumping going on, we had won tonight’s game. I didn’t want more people around to intrude on this moment with Roxy. On the plus side, the now-cramped space forced our bodies closer together. And thank the sweet Lord above, we were close enough that her nipples were grazing my chest. I nearly groaned out loud at the contact. Friction was exactly what my jutting erection was seeking—and with painful persistence. I did everything humanly possible to avoid lewdly poking her with it. Then again… Maybe I should show her exactly how much I wanted her. Maybe she’d like knowing the kind of effect she had on me. After all, I’d like to think the reason her nipples were so stiff was because of her proximity to me. My eyes caught on the dimple in her bottom lip, and I couldn’t look away. “Convince me, Rox.” She sucked that lip between her teeth, biting down right over that dimple. I felt my forehead break out into a cold sweat, even though it was a million degrees in this goddamn car. “Convince you of what?” she asked in a breathy voice. When her gaze dropped to my mouth, I about said to hell with everyone else and just took what I fucking wanted. What I fucking needed. And that was Roxy’s mouth moving beneath my own, her tongue sliding wantonly against mine. Her expression said she wanted a kiss. And I’d make sure it was the kiss of the goddamn century. “Convince me that you want me to stay away from you.”

Melanie grew up in a small town in rural Missouri. After marrying her husband, she decided she wanted to try coastal life because why not? A few months later, they moved to North Carolina where she discovered her passion for writing, and they never looked back. They are now enjoying life with their beautiful daughter in Savannah, GA and loving every minute with their little Georgia peach.
Melanie’s other passion is traveling and seeing the world. With anthropology degrees under their belts, she and her husband have made it their goal in life to see as many archaeological sites around the world as possible.
She has a horrible food addiction to pasta and candy (not together…ew). And she gets sad when her wine rack is empty.
At the end of the day, she is a true romantic at heart. She loves writing the cheesy and corny of romantic comedies, and the sassy and sexy of suspense. She aims to make her readers swoon, laugh out loud, maybe sweat a little, and above all, fall in love.

Previous books in the series:
EXCERPT:
Rowena turned back, resting her chin on the duvet. “I need this. We need this connection.” Hiding her smirk in the blanket, she let the next words fall from her lips, “Do your worst.”
His first spank connected as his chuckle bounced around the room. “Be careful what you wish for.” He focused first on her right cheek, smacking the same spot until she started to squirm and whine before moving to the left to give that cheek the same treatment.
When he paused, she clenched her cheeks. She knew her sit spot were about to receive the same treatment only to be followed by her thighs. “Bear?”
“Yeah, sunshine?” Without words, she held the hand that wasn’t pinned to the side of her body back. “Need some help, baby?”
“Please.” She relaxed as soon as his long fingers wrapped around her wrist securing it to the small of her back. “Okay, I’m ready now.”
Octavius continued his assault as she knew he would. It didn’t take nearly as many smacks on her sit spots to get her squirming this time, but he didn’t stop. Instead, he gave them the same treatment as he did her full ass.
It was when he moved to her thighs that the struggle to stay still became all too real. Gone, was the good girl who wanted him to hold her hand for comfort; in her place, was the wife who suddenly wasn’t so sure she wanted or needed this spanking.
“You have your safeword. Use it or settle down, baby.”
The final word he spoke broke her. Tears she had previously thought all cried out raced down her face. “Stop calling me that. Fucking stop.” A bitter laugh left her lips as a particularly hard swat connected, her reprimand for the curse. “I can’t give you a family, I sure as hell don’t deserve the pet name.”

Author Bio:
Rachel Blake:
I have been writing since high school, but truthfully never thought it would go any further than a few short stories hidden deep within my laptop. It wasn't until my family moved away from everything we knew that I started writing stuff worth sharing. Now, my husband, three kids, our plethora of animals, and I live in the Midwest. When I'm not running around like your stereotypical soccer mom (sans the minivan) I am writing the type of stories I have always secretly treasured. Love stories with a sexy alpha male and a strong submissive female.
RJ Gray:
RJ Gray romanticizes life with a slightly kinky mind. She resides in Virginia with her husband, two young sons and naughty beagle lab puppy. Her hobbies include whipping up delicious meals, capturing life's beauty with her camera and spending time in the strong arms of her husband of fifteen years, Bomb Dom.
RJ brings her over two decades of experience in BDSM and domestic discipline to the page, writing books with dominant alpha males and feisty, stubborn females. RJ holds college degrees in both social work and criminology, topics that can often be found in her novels. Having spent the past fifteen years married to a military bomb technician, RJ has a passion for military and veteran causes.
Stella Moore:
Stella has been writing spanking fiction off and on for years, but she's just recently taken the plunge into writing full on novels. She is from the school of "write what you know", and her husband is always willing (sometimes too willing!) to assist with any research she needs.
