Haze switched his thoughts to Adriana. Every fiber of his being was in love with her and he was tired of hiding it. He and Carys had talked about it on their way to New York, and she made a valid point of saying that he and Adriana were both consenting adults and her parents couldn’t stop them from seeing each other. She encouraged him to go to Adriana’s parents, and if Adriana truly loved him, she would forgive him. Haze was hell-bent on professing his love for Adriana to her parents. He’d planned his speech and was ready. He was ready to apologize for sneaking around behind their backs and was willing to take whatever consequences they dished out. He was willing to do whatever it took to finally be with Adriana in the open.
He walked briskly through LAX. His mission, while he still had the courage, was to head to Banovic Manor. He texted his roommate, Chellon, to pick him up at the airport. Haze could hardly wait to get to the outside a few yards in front of him. With his eyes set firmly on his finish line, he dodged people coming at him from all directions; then just outside of Starbucks, L’Wren DaCosta bumped into him, spilling some of her ice-cold drink down his pant leg. As the liquid penetrated his pants and touched his skin, it slammed him into the present.
“I am so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention,” she apologized.
“It’s okay, neither was I.” He dusted the liquid from his pants.
“I’m so sorry, let me …” She tried to wipe it off.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s okay. Lemme buy you another one.” Haze looked at her for the first time and she looked familiar, but he couldn’t place her.
“No, no, no, it’s fine. I am so clumsy!”
“You’re Kevin’s girlfriend.”
“I knew you looked familiar. Have we met?” L’Wren asked.
“Haze. I work for the Banovics, part time, but I’ve seen you at Bacchanal Jake’s.”
“That’s right!”
Haze nodded.
“L’Wren. Nice to meet you,” she introduced herself.
“Yeah, you too. You coming or going?”
“Just coming back from New York City. I presented one of my designs at Fashion Week.”
“No way! I was just coming back from there. I had a gig at that event.”
“Do you want a ride? My roommate should be here any minute now.”
“Kevin’s picking me up.” She beamed; it was obvious to Haze that she was very much in love with Kevin by the way she lit up when she mentioned his name.
L’Wren and Haze walked and talked about the shows. Once outside, the conversation flowed easily. They were so engrossed in conversation that they didn’t notice a black SUV pull up a few feet away. Two men got out and walked towards them.
“L’Wren?” one of the men asked.
“Yes.”
“Kevin sent us to pick you up.”
One of the men relieved her of her bags. Haze had an uneasy feeling as he watched the man who spoke lead her away by her elbow.
“Bye, Haze.” She smiled. “Nice to meet you.”
Haze faked a smile, but his gut told him that something was not right. He saw them open the backseat door for her and he started walking towards them. One of the men noticed and quickly got in with L’Wren and they hastily drove off. He memorized the license plate as he dialed Kevin. At the same time Chellon pulled up and Haze spotted Kevin’s vehicle in traffic several cars behind.
Haze dropped his bag and ran towards Kevin’s vehicle.
“Hey, man!” Chellon called as he got out of his vehicle.
Kevin spotted Haze and lowered the window on the passenger side. “What’s going on, Haze?”
“Two guys just grabbed your girl, I think.”
“You shitting me, right?” Kevin looked at him in disbelief.
Chellon caught up to them.
“Kevin, I’m dead serious.” Haze told them everything that happened and gave him the license plate of the vehicle, and Kevin sped off, honking his way through traffic.
“We should call the cops. I’ve got the license plate, they could help.” Haze looked for both vehicles, but they had already disappeared.

“No, man, Kevin’s got this,” Chellon replied. Just then an airport security guard started to hassle them about leaving their vehicle unattended.

Spoils of Olympus: By The Sword by Christian Kachel Spotlight!

The Book

322 B.C.

The Macedonian Empire is on the verge of civil war following the sudden death of Alexander the Great.

As a boy Andrikos watched as Alexander's army marched through his homeland of Greek Ionia after defeating the Persians at the Granicus River.

Soon he will be embroiled in their world - and forced to flee his old life.

Thrust into the army, Andrikos struggles to cope with the brutal training, as Alexander's surviving generals seek to divide and conquer the spoils of Olympus.

But Andrikos is not destined to be a nameless soldier.

By chance he is chosen for a clandestine mission - and is immersed in a world of intrigue, violence and brotherhood.

The path that lies ahead of Andrikos requires him to shed his immaturity and take on the responsibilities and emotions of a man beyond his years.

‘The Spoils of Olympus: By the Sword’ is a historical epic which follows the advancements of one soldier from boy to man during a time of increasing political and military unrest for Greece and Macedonia.

‘Kachel effortlessly blends history with intrigue, gore and romance to ensure that his tale keeps you on your toes until the very end.’ - Paul Bannister, author of ‘Arthur Britannicus’.

Christian Kachel lives in Washington D.C. ‘Spoils of Olympus: By the Sword’ is his first novel.

ABOUT ME

I am a Long Island, NY native and current resident of Northern Virginia.
While attending the University of Maryland- College Park, the events of
September 11, 2001 inspired me to join the U.S. Army ROTC program and
volunteer for three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan upon my
commissioning into the Army Reserves in 2003.  I hold three Master's
degrees and work in the defense industry.

The Spoils of Olympus has been a 2 1/2 year project that began in a
Marriott hotel room in San Antonio, Texas while attending pre deployment
training for a tour in Afghanistan in late 2011.  The wars of succession
immediately following the death of Alexander the Great have always
fascinated me despite being overshadowed in the history books by the life
and times of Alexander himself.  Many great novels have been written about ancient Greece and Alexander but few fictional works have explored this forgotten era in western civilization where Alexander's generals, who were once allies, battled each other for control of the largest empire on earth.

By the Sword is the first novel in The Spoils of Olympus series and
introduces us to the story's protagonist, Andrikos.  The book follows
him from an adolescence of criminality and capriciousness to his forced
enlistment in the wars of succession; taking him from the battlefields of
Asia Minor to the Achaemenid palaces of the Persian Empire.  It is my hope
readers will enjoy the story  while learning about this important time in
history.  Thank you for your interest!

A Promise Made by Valerie Joan Connors Spotlight!

Today I am happy to feature A Promise Made by Valerie Joan Connors at Celticlady's Reviews!

In 1949, twenty-year-old Eva Larkin is forced to put her life-long dream of a writing career on the back burner in favor of marriage and motherhood when an unexpected pregnancy changes everything. Eva soon discovers that she has married an alcoholic with a dangerous temper, but blames herself and “that smart mouth of hers” for her husband’s uncontrolled rage. When Leo’s violence and abuse become unbearable, Eva and her three-year-old son leave their home and family in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and set out for New York City to start a new life. Eva is faced with raising a child on her own, at a time when divorce was neither common nor easily obtained. With help from the friends she makes along the way, Eva struggles to build a career, provide for her son, and keep her demons at bay. But leaving the past behind turns out to be much more difficult than she had imagined.
This novel, funny at times and often disturbing, will leave the reader with a renewed awareness of how much women’s lives have changed in the past sixty-five years.
A Promise Made is a story about hope, strong women, and the way things used to be.
Praise for A Promise Made
“With A Promise Madea dark and brutal journey of domestic violence and single motherhood—we applaud author Valerie Joan Connors for shining a stunningly bright light on an evil that, despite three score and five years of enlightenment, remains a very dark place, indeed.”
--Jedwin Smith, author of Fatal Treasure and Our Brother’s Keeper
“A riveting tale about a courageous woman! A Promise Made throws open doors that hide purple bruises, broken bones, and broken hearts, the all-too-common dark family secrets before women could find safety in shelters and police could intervene in domestic matters. It reminds us how recent these protections are and how domestic violence haunts us still. Hurray to Valerie Connors for this inspiring story!”
--Jennie Miller HeldermanPushcart Prize nominee, author of As the Sycamore Grows
"From the very beginning, the characters and situations that Valerie Connors creates, leap off the page and into my heart, where I will carry them forever. This riveting story offers a meaningful message for everyone who reads it."

--Terry Segal-Author of Hidden Corners of My Heart and The Enchanted Journey: Finding the Key That Unlocks You

“Eva Larkin kept me up at night. She is a character who slips in the back door of your consciousness and suddenly every woman you meet might be her. If there’s ever been a character I cheered for, feared for, grieved for or ultimately hoped for, more than Eva, this novel has made me forget her. Valerie Connors has created a timeless woman’s story in A Promise Made.”
--Kimberly Brock, 2013 Georgia Author of the Year for River Witch

"Rich with detail, A Promise Made is the heartfelt journey of a young woman surviving and thriving despite an abusive relationship in the post-WWII era, with lessons equally relevant for women of today."

---M.J. Pullen, Author of The Marriage Pact and Every Other Saturday

"Intrepid Eva Larkin copes with and then overcomes abuse by her husband, setting her on a path to help others, but this is much more than a novel about domestic violence. A Promise Made showcases strong, courageous women—and men—who dare to defy the 1950's norms of silent suffering and hypocrisy."

 ---George Weinstein, author of
The CaretakerThe Five Destinies of Carlos Moreno, and Hardscrabble Road

"Eva Larkin longs to be a writer. Escaping an abusive relationship, she finds true love and discovers that her own life is the real story. A wonderful novel about a strong woman, a loving child, loyal friends, and a family that binds them all together."
---Michael K. Brown, 2015 Georgia Author of the Year for Somewhere a River
“An inspiring story of survival and hope.”
--Holly Sullivan McClure, author of Conjuror and Twisted Hair

Rainy Day Sisters by Kate Hewitt Spotlight!

The Book

The USA Today bestselling author presents a heartfelt novel about two sisters struggling toward new lives and loves.

Welcome to Hartley-by-the-Sea in England’s beautiful Lake District, where two sisters who meet as strangers find small miracles tucked into the corners of every day....

When Lucy Bagshaw’s life in Boston falls apart, thanks to a scathing editorial written by her famous artist mother, she accepts her half sister Juliet’s invitation to stay with her in a charming seaside village in northern England. Lucy is expecting quaint cottages and cream teas, but instead finds that her sister is an aloof host, the weather is wet, windy, and cold, and her new boss, Alex Kincaid, is a disapproving widower who only hired her as a favor to Juliet.

Despite the invitation she offered, Juliet is startled by the way Lucy catapults into her orderly life. As Juliet faces her own struggles with both her distant mother and her desire for a child, her sister’s irrepressible optimism begins to take hold. With the help of quirky villagers, these hesitant rainy day sisters begin to forge a new understanding…and find in each other the love of family that makes all the difference.

The Evolution of Adam by Dan Ford Spotlight

Book Details

  • Paperback: 544 pages
  • Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform; 1 edition (July 30, 2014)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1500467200
  • ISBN-13: 978-1500467203

The Evolution of Adam: One Mans Journey To Become A Spiritual Warrior is a New Age inspirational thriller, offering some action and intrigue while introducing a new spiritual insight for the mature reader. There is some mild violence as well as complex social and sexual relationship interactions throughout the storyline.

This novel begins with an allegorical tale depicting the origin of humanlike animals that evolve from purely instinctual and reactive creatures, to ones having sentience and an inherent consciousness of individuality. This evolutionary movement is instigated by highly evolved spiritual entities called Zenithians, who are responsible for all the creations within the Earthly Realm.

Subsequent chapters transport the reader to contemporary times and establish the novel’s plot. Because of a mysterious incident, Adam and his friends sense that there are unknown powers that influence their lives. They then meet highly advanced spiritual characters that serve as teachers to assist them in reaching individual spiritual awareness and acquiring various metaphysical capabilities.

The primary antagonist is a wealthy and spiritually powerful woman named Diana, who provides the nucleus that pulls all of the primary characters together in a quest to discover the ruins of Atlantis, somewhere in the Bahamas. She has a dangerous agenda that will serve as the conflict between all characters in the novel, as many of them acquire heightened spiritual powers such as reading the Akashic Record, traveling within the Spiritual Timeline and experiencing Out of the Body movements.

The storyline takes the reader along on a ride that moves at a moderate pace during the first chapters where new characters are being introduced, but begins to speed up when friction between the protagonists and antagonists takes place. Toward the end of this story the novel becomes a thriller as open conflict between Diana and her followers attempt to deter Adam and his friends from reaching their goals.

This novel is an inspirational thriller for mature readers as it contains relatively complex philosophical discussions on the origin and evolutionary progress of individual souls. There are instances of great violence and disturbing activities. The storyline also describes many of the primary character’s personal activities, including those of a sexual and social nature.

The Evolution of Adam: One Man’s Journey To Become A Spiritual Warrior is available in either paperback printed or Kindle eBook format.

Biography

Dan Ford was born in Hancock New York in November of 1937. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a meteorological observer from 1954 through 1958 and traveled extensively throughout the Far East and South Pacific during that period. In 1960, Pan American World Airways employed him for the next 10 years in the Bahamas, also as a meteorologist, on the U.S. Atlantic Missile Range during the early years of the U.S. Space Program. It was during that time, in 1962 that he met his life partner, Paul and they have been supporting each other's dreams Dan Ford was born in Hancock New York in November of 1937. It was during that time, in 1962 that he met his life partner, Paul and they have been supporting each other's dreams since that time. They founded a landscape design and contracting firm in the Bahamas and continued with that endeavor to this day in Vero Beach, Florida.

In early 1960, Dan traveled to Ireland and visited the Blarney Castle. During that visit, two robust, probably drunk Irishmen held Dan by his feet over the top of the Blarney Castle parapet and told him to kiss the Blarney Stone. He did, and soon after that he started talking incessantly and felt the need to put his thoughts on paper. He had been warned about this, but paid no attention, which had always been a particular character flaw and one which is often observed in the Irish American genetic code.

In the ensuing years, Dan wrote a lot and published naught until he reached his twilight years and figured he better get on the stick. He wrote and published Gateways To Your Garden, which is a full color "What To" rather than a "How To" non-fiction book on landscape design and available within Amazon Books. Then he decided to create a fiction novel about exceptionally fine looking people doing interesting and exciting things to and with each other in alluring locales. This inspirational thriller is called The Evolution of Adam and has a spiritually philosophical structure that serves to construct a connection between all aspects of the storyline as well as inspiring and uniting the books characters. This spiritual philosophy represents the sum total of the authors mental acquisitions acquired during his years here on Earth. This novel is also available within the Amazon Books literary empire.

Now that Dan Ford has gotten this novel out of his system, he has decided that he needs to stick around for a while and perhaps squeeze more stories out of his consciousness. But that will depend on the reading tolerances of those who decide to give his books a try.

For those of you who have read this far, thank you for doing so. I apologize for writing about me as though I was not I, but that is what writers do. It is weird though.

"I first started visiting Yellowstone Park almost thirty years ago. Before long, my family was coming to fish in Montana and in Yellowstone thirty to fifty days a year. On those trips I fished most days with one or more of my children. Some of my early memories include:

A horse pack trip nine miles up the Lamar River with all three of our children ages four to ten. We had to take a detour because a grizzly had been seen feeding on an elk carcass.

Hiking upstream from Tower Creek on the Yellowstone River with all three of our children to fish for cutthroat trout.

A failed attempt to ford the Yellowstone at Buffalo Ford.

Hiking up the Madison in September to fish streamers for big brown trout.

Wade fishing on the Gallatin with my daughter as two wolves watched us from a snow-covered hillside across the river.

My eleven-year-old son “guiding” me on the Gibbon River in the Gibbon Meadow.

Hiking down to the Gardiner River below the ranger station for wonderful long fishing days with the whole family.

And the list goes on.

Something happened for me in the course of all of those trips, all of those enthralling, never-ending summer days, fishing until dusk.

I’d be hiking out with one or more of my children after a day filled with animal sightings, sunlight breaking through clouds turning portions of the vast meadows a brilliant green, clouds passing in front of the evening sun throwing irregular shadows on a rocky mountainside, a lone bison grazing in the distance where steam was rising from a hot spring pool, rainy days with rainbows so brilliant that it took your breath away. Yes, something wondrous happened. I internalized a sense of well-being, a sense of how splendid life could be, of the promise it held for these lovely children.

Yellowstone Park gave me that, and I hope, in some small way, this book is giving something back to this magical place we call Yellowstone.'

The Book
The northwest corner of Yellowstone Park is closed for bear management, and Rachel, a bear biologist, is discovering some very startling animal behavior—grizzlies denning in June, swans at their wintering grounds in summer, what appear to be Irish Elk, an extinct species, with huge palmated antlers. There are also horrific mutations in the young—elk calves with no front legs, earless bear cubs, and eaglets without wings. What has gone wrong? Why is this area closed? Who’s covering up these animal abnormalities in the Park?

A non-stop thriller set in some of North America’s wildest country, In Velvet takes you deep into the hearts of a hard case local detective and a Chicago cop as they take on a corrupt sheriff, a pathalogical poacher, and a lethal black ops manager to solve this ghastly mystery and restore the natural order in Yellowstone National Park.
