Gemini Brandy Nacole is a writer of urban fantasy books. She is the author of the Shadow World series and the Spiritual Discord series published by Ponahakeola Press. A reader from a young age, Brandy has always loved folklore and stories of beings that go bump in the night.

Brandy lives in Arkansas with her husband, three never stopping kids, two snooty cats, two very lazy bearded dragons, and one mellow turtle. She is a member of the Ozark Romance Authors in Springfield, Missouri. Whenever she’s not reading or writing, Brandy is spending her time outdoors wheeling, hiking, playing amateur photographer, and enjoying a good laugh.

~DEEP IN THE HOLLOW~

Let me share some wisdom with you. There is evil in this world we cannot see, not because it is hidden from us, but because our minds refuse to accept its existence. But once we are able to get past what everyone says should not be, it becomes our responsibility to stop the evil we now see.

This insight wasn’t given to me until a year after I lost the most important person in my life: Bryce Rowan. Now, after another death at the same spot where he died—the overlook, where the mysterious lights dance amongst the trees—I begin to wonder if they were accidents after all.

Lucky for me, I’m not the only curious one in town. Cooper, a ghost hunter (aka chaser), and his sister Jada have moved to town and are starting to ask questions.

But the more we find out about this town and the people who live here, people who I have known my whole life, the more I begin to think there are those who would rather keep the evil secret, even if it means we will never be safe, and that more will die.

RAGING STORM Book #2

After Kayson fell from heaven, his
life got complicated. His greatest enemies, the hell hounds, thrived on Earth and hunted not only the fallen but the blood children created by their Master. After being chased and confronted by one of those very creatures, Kayson’s life becomes even more complicated. He never expected to be rescued by a vampire named Sabrina. He also never expected to become her protector after she falls prey to a hell hound’s deadly bite.

Falon, head of the hell hounds, has been desperately trying to hunt down Kayson and Sabrina but with the rain steadily falling—due to interference by the lower-realm Angels, also known as the assemblies—Falon grows irritated. His only option is to threaten those that may know where the fallen can be found.

With the threat of the hounds finding Kayson and the other fallen, Kayson is running out of time. Stille, once a respected Warrior in the assemblies, is pushing Kayson to leave an unconscious Sabrina behind. After all Sabrina has done for him, Kayson refuses to abandon her. But will his decision leave his friends vulnerable to attack?

Sabrina is conscious enough to sense the struggles that Kayson is facing. If he knew the torture she’s been going through, she knows he would suffer even more. Sabrina silently fights the darkness that is seeping into her dreams, while struggling to stay strong for Kayson. But when the pain becomes too much, Sabrina has to make a choice that may cost not only her life, but the lives of others as well.

DARKEST REACHES Book #3

Kayson and the other fallen angels have risked their lives to keep Sabrina safe as she recovered from a Hell hound’s bite. Just when she began to improve, Hell was unleashed as the hounds attacked, and kidnapped Sabrina.

Now, only days after the fight between the fallen and the hounds, Kayson is determined to find Sabrina and bring her back from Hell. The only thing standing in his way is a dangerous fallen angel named Iraja. Iraja has the means to find Sabrina,

but he doesn’t do favors without a price.

Sabrina is now facing the nightmare she’s been running from since being turned into a vampire a century ago: her eternal condemnation to Hell. Knowing her only chance of survival may rest by playing nice and turning Hell hound Falon against Lucifer, Sabrina gives into the bitter darkness and now has to fight to remember the good soul she truly is. But when she discovers the role her and the innocent human Emma are forced to play, will her fear get the better of her, and will she be lost forever?

In the third installment of the Spiritual Discord series, the will to survive is tested, worst fears become a reality, and for one, betrayal becomes the only option.

SYNOPSIS

After being abruptly separated from Nicolas le Breton during the battle to save Mont Saint Michel in 1424, Katelyn Michaels finds herself back in her normal twenty-first-century life as an American teenager. Depressed and anxious to be reunited with Nicolas, she is comforted when a series of events and impressions lead her to believe she is being prepared for another mission as a Watchman. When her beloved mentor, Jean le Vieux, comes to her in a dream and gives her the injunction to “Learn of the Maiden and take her the sword,” Katelyn understands that her mission involves assisting one of the most iconic figures in all of French History. Katelyn is once again whisked back to the turmoil of medieval France during the Hundred Years’ War and to Nicolas. However, before the two can consider the future of their relationship, they must first complete their mission to take the sword to the Maiden. Little do they know that their old nemesis, Abdon, is already on their trail and will do everything in his unhallowed power to stop them.

My Thoughts
The Sword of the Maiden takes place where The Keys of the Watchmen left off, where Katelyn Michaels visited Mont Saint Michel with her brother. They were there to visit their father and his new bride. A strange encounter at the abbey whisks them back to the medieval time, where she finds out she is a Watchman.

In The Sword of the Maiden, Katelyn is recovering from her injuries and getting on with her life. She misses her husband Nicholas le Bretonand knows that she will soon have to undertake a new mission. In a dream, a man from the past tells her it is her duty to find the sword and give it to the "maiden" so that Mont Saint Michel is saved. She needs to go back in time again so off to France she goes to be reunited with Nicholas  and to learn more about her mission.

The Hundred Years war was a series of conflicts waged from 1337 to 1453 by the House of Plantagenet, rulers of England and against the House of Valois, rulers of France. Jehanne (Joan of Arc) is known as the Maid of Orleans, who was raised in the village of Donremy in what was then in the northeastern part of France. The sword that Katelyn is to find is also the sword that she needs to take to Jehanne. Jehanne gets "visions" of Saint Margaret, Saint Catherine and Archangel Michael telling her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination. We all know of the fate of Joan of Arc so I won't say anymore. Katelyn and Nicolas's mission is fraught with danger from one of their enemies, Abdon, a supernatural being bent on stopping Katelyn and Nicolas from completing their mission.

This book is very well researched, the reader gets a glimpse into medieval France during a turbulent time in history. I learned quite a bit more about The Hundred Years War and it was actually a fascinating time in history. This book, even with all of the history in it, was easy to read. I love time travel stories and this one was very good, poignant but triumphant as well. Can history be changed? Probably not but it is worth thinking about. I enjoyed it very much and I look forward to reading The Watchmen Saga, the third and last in the series.

I received a copy of this book for review for my honest and unbiased thoughts.

The Urban Boys by K.N. Smith Book Blast! #UrbanBlast @knsmith_author

Five teen boys, mysteriously exposed to a foreign energy source...

Publication Date: September 29, 2015
Genre: Young Adult, Action-Adventure, Paranormal

The Urban Boys: Discovery of the Five Senses is an action-adventure story about five teen boys who are mysteriously exposed to a foreign energy source that gives them extremely heightened senses. Sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell become hypersensitive gifts that forever change the world. The story chronicles their effortless interrelations and later exposes the testing of their deep bonds. It introduces the reader to an array of supporting characters who alter the boys’ lives forever. The Urban Boys offers young and mature readers central themes of loyalty, responsibility, honesty, fear, and triumph, which become artfully integrated with cinematic-level action and high drama. The story twists, turns, and grinds through elements of paranormal and action-adventure in a diverse, exciting, edge-of-your-seat narrative!

Overview: The story’s small town of Danville Heights, a carefully crafted universe, contrasts with the dark, gloomy town of Sandry Lake, where evil abounds. Upon the boys’ mysterious incident with the energy source, they’re instinctively called to Sandry Lake to root out evil. Their senses guide them each time. However, secrecy about their mission, furious battles with evil thugs, extreme fatigue, and stress and pressure soon overwhelm the boys, but they must find a way to embrace their fate. A lurking, Dark Stranger seems to know their plight, and a strikingly beautiful, fearless girl lends way to heightened confusion. Shocking details about these two characters, and the evil antagonist, the dreaded Druth, twist and grind the story even further. Despite tension and fierce battles, will the boys hold it together long enough to fulfill their destiny? Intriguing, intelligent, beautifully written, and full of action, The Urban Boys: Discovery of the Five Senses offers a memorable, emotion-packed, thrilling ride for young and mature readers alike!

Books for Boys vs. Books for Girls
By K.N. Smith
I love your very interesting question, thank you! Very clearly, there are literary works specific to girls, and others specific to boys. It's certainly okay to separate these, in case an author is trying to convey something directly to a gender. As we know, there are books that girls view as boys' books and they don't want to read those kinds of books, and vice versa. It's certainly a matter of taste.
In my opinion, there is something that everyone can glean from every book. And I personally am not all that interested in limits. For example, what happens if there is something tucked inside of a boy’s book, and I am encouraged not to venture within. What will I be missing out on? Is there something you don't want me to see, or learn?

My mind immediately shifts to The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, so much considered a boy’s book that she was told not to reveal her name at the time of publication (and also because of her young age: 15). J.K. Rowling was told the same thing. I can tell you personally from reading The Outsiders at a very young age, and numerous other books by the author, that girls' lives were transformed with the flipping of those pages, which perhaps were meant mainly for boys, according to some. The truth, rawness, and beauty of those scenes will stay with me forever. So again, limits cannot apply if we are to grow as individuals. We do this in part by reading.

The Urban Boys has its own dynamics. Sure, it is a story about five boys and there are numerous fight scenes, as well as a football chapter, in the book. It might seem that it is a book written for boys. It is not. They just happen to be the central characters. It is really a story about families, interactions amongst friends, lifelong bonds, and how a mysterious incident changes their lives. It's an action adventure story that boys and girls and men and women can relate to. In fact, all of these audiences are reading the book currently. There's a little bit of each of us in the story. I also believe that the detail in the scenes appeals to both boys and girls, if they gravitate toward lyrical writing.

We would not want to limit ourselves based upon another person's insistence that we stay in one area. So, I think it's important for each of us to venture out, read all kinds of books, and learn something new along the way. If a heart can be touched by moving prose or a rugged scene with tenderness buried underneath, then the author has indeed done a fine job regardless of the reader.

K.N. Smith is an American author and passionate advocate of childhood and family literacy programs throughout the world. She continues to inspire students of all ages to reach their highest potential in their literary and educational pursuits. Her creative literary flair sweeps across pages that twist, turn, and grind through elements of paranormal and action-adventure in diverse, exciting, edge-of-your-seat narratives. She states, “My hope is that The Urban Boys will spark imagination in a wide variety of readers while elevating global literacy efforts. It’s important that we have diverse families of readers for generations to come.” K.N. Smith has over twenty years experience in writing, communications, and creative design. Nutritional Information?

Total Fat 9g
Sat.Fat 5g
Sugars 20g
Sodium 85g

  • Singles packs feature two pieces, each with 100 calories, allowing for a snack for now and another for later.

My Thoughts

I have to say that the new Snickers Crisper is really good. I have always liked a candy bar that has crispy rice and caramel in it. I received two large bars, 4 pieces in each package, for review and since I am diabetic and love chocolate, I liked this packaging because I didn't have to have all four pieces to satisfy my chocolate craving and there is less sugar and calories than the regular Snickers. Lots of caramel, along with crispy rice and peanuts coated in milk chocolate took care of my sweet tooth. I think I like Snickers Crisper better than the regular Snickers bar. I have always been a fan of Mars products and this candy bar will become a favorite.

Before she could make another foolish mistake, Aeley rushed from the room. The night was nothing like she had planned and not what she needed. "Ae!" Aeley did not stop. The sound of heavy boots pounded the stone floor behind her. The steps slowed as Mayr caught up. "Seriously, that's it?" he asked. "That's how you thought you'd get out of that?" "I have something to do." Mayr snorted. "Right, just as much as I believe it, I'm sure." He poked her hand. "Just as much as I know this thing isn't nothing. You went almost white when you read it. What's it say?" "It says you need to mind your own." "Aren't you just the joy of the Four Goddesses?" "Mayr—" "No. Unless you're going to tell me what this is, you don't get to use my first name. It's Head Guard if you're going to just lie to me." Aeley stopped in the middle of the corridor and sighed. "I'm not giving this up so you can stop with the sighing and the huffing, and don't even begin stamping your foot." Wrapping one hand around her elbow, Mayr's tender grip helped keep her steady. "I've known you since we were kids. Don't make me steal that thing. I know something's wrong and you're being stubborn. Again." She considered her options. It was better if no one else knew what was happening. To have received the summons in front of her guests was humiliating enough. She did not have to share the details. But Mayr was not a guest. He already knew the truth of what had happened in Oly Valley. He had been there by her side, making sure she returned home alive. What harm could there be in telling him the fight was not yet over? I owe him that much. And he didn't say a word in front of anyone. He could've, but he didn't. He deserves to know. "Come on." Aeley pulled him through the halls to her study and pushed him into the room before slamming the door. On the way to her desk, she tossed the scroll at him. "What? You're going to make me read it?" "Always something," Aeley grumbled and spun around. "They want me to go there, to Council, to watch him receive his ultimate judgment. They'd said I wouldn't." Mayr leaned against the wall. "No, they said you possibly wouldn't. You slipped in that extra—" "Mayr!" He threw up his hands. "Fine. If it bothers you that much, don't go." "I can't," Aeley said resignedly. "The Councilmen are expecting me to be there to help them put Allon away permanently. He's a danger to everyone. His men caused so much damage. I hear some of the children they captured are still terrified. That isn't how I want things to be. We can't disappoint them and let him off easily." "So then go." "I don't want to." "Ae, choose one." His tone softened as he approached her. "I'll back you on any decision, but you're going to have to choose one. Either you're the perfect Tract Steward or you hide. Of course, if you hide, Allon wins, and then what good is your superiority?" Part of her wanted to throw the decanter at his head. Just when she thought he was being sweet, he hit her with the blunt truth. "Don't say it. You hate me." "You have no idea," Aeley muttered.

An aristocratic young woman leaves the sheltered world of London to find adventure, passion, and independence in 1920s Paris in this mesmerizing story from the USA Today and internationally bestselling author of Somewhere in France and After the War is Over. Spring, 1924 Recovering from a broken wartime engagement and a serious illness that left her near death, Lady Helena Montagu-Douglas-Parr vows that for once she will live life on her own terms. Breaking free from the stifling social constraints of the aristocratic society in which she was raised, she travels to France to stay with her free spirited aunt. For one year, she will simply be Miss Parr. She will explore the picturesque streets of Paris, meet people who know nothing of her past—and pursue her dream of becoming an artist. A few years after the Great War’s end, the City of Light is a bohemian paradise teeming with actors, painters, writers, and a lively coterie of American expatriates who welcome Helena into their romantic and exciting circle. Among them is Sam Howard, an irascible and infuriatingly honest correspondent for the Chicago Tribune. Dangerously attractive and deeply scarred by the horror and carnage of the war, Sam is unlike any man she has ever encountered. He calls her Ellie, sees her as no one has before, and offers her a glimpse of a future that is both irresistible and impossible. As Paris rises phoenix-like from the ashes of the Great War, so too does Helena. Though she’s shed her old self, she’s still uncertain of what she will become and where she belongs. But is she strong enough to completely let go of the past and follow her heart, no matter where it leads her? Artfully capturing the Lost Generation and their enchanting city, Moonlight Over Paris is the spellbinding story of one young woman’s journey to find herself, and claim the life—and love—she truly wants.

Splintered by Kelly Miller Book Blast! #SplinteredBlast @MillerMystery

Has she already fallen prey to the vicious stranger hunting her?

Publication Date: Jan 26, 2016
Genre: Psychological Thriller/Crime Fiction

Life turns from barely tolerable to complete hell when Maddy Eastin’s impulsive plan to win back the attention of her absentee father backfires. Word of her scheme spreads through her high school, but when mockery escalates to cyberbullying, Maddy and her failed stunt become headline news. But the worst is yet to come…

A disturbed man is fighting the overwhelming urge to surrender to his true nature—a moral code molded by a sadistic father who taught him that a girl needs proper training to become the perfect subservient woman. As he watches Maddy on the evening news, his already fractured psyche completely splinters. She’s the girl he’s been waiting for.

When Maddy disappears, she’s labeled a runaway even though her mother believes it was foul play. Will the two detectives investigating Maddy’s disappearance find her before it’s too late? Or has she already fallen prey to the vicious stranger hunting her?

This psychological thriller unfolds through the viewpoints of five deeply flawed characters. Each is on their own emotionally charged journey that ultimately intersects in a collision course of devastating consequences.

Dear Readers,

I wrote Race the Darkness from start to finish three different times, with three different story lines, and with three different titles! The only thing that ever remained the same between the versions was Xander and Isleen. I believed in them and the story they wanted to tell. I hope you love reading about their tragedies and triumphs as much as I enjoyed writing them… All three times! And isn’t the cover amazing, beautiful, gorgeous? I cried the first time I saw it! It made all the hard work to get this book to you worth it!

P.S. I would love to connect with you and hear what you think about the cover! You can find me here:
An excerpt from Race the Darkness

No fucking way was he going to die running. He stopped, turned and faced the truck barreling toward them. The tires ate up the ground at an indecent rate. He clutched Isleen tighter to his chest. For her sake, he wanted it to be a quick death. No more lingering. No more pain.

That thought infuriated him. None of this was right. They shouldn’t be on the verge of death. Again.

The truck kept coming—twenty-five feet.

Everything slowed, happened as if through the quicksand of time. A white dandelion floaty meandered on the breeze directly between them and the truck. His heart no longer ran a staccato rhythm. Duh…duhm. Pause. Duh…duhm.

Pause.

His life didn’t flash before his eyes. The future did. Isleen’s future. In an ethereal dream beyond time, her skin was gilded by firelight, her eyes void of sadness and fear, her body whole and healthy. She smiled, an expression so full of warmth and tenderness and undiluted joy that it plunked itself down inside his heart and wouldn’t leave.

He ached to create that kind of smile on her face, but their lives were over and it all could’ve gone so differently if he’d only listened to her, believed in her, found her years before now.
